How To Convert MBR To GPT During Windows Installation and NTFS Hard Format

Master boot record (MBR) disks use the standard BIOS partition table. GUID partition table (GPT) disks use unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI). One advantage of GPT disks is that you can have more than four partitions on each disk. GPT is also required for disks larger than 2 terabytes.
You can change a disk from MBR to GPT partition style as long as the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes.
You cannot use the GPT partition style on removable media, or on cluster disks that are connected to shared SCSI or Fibre Channel buses that are used by the Cluster service.

Brother this was quick, easy and straight forward. I was installing not a windows 10 but lighter version named Tiny10 and it hit me with the wrong format disk. Goddamn you saved me.

I used rufus to make bootable ..device i checked partion style in disk Management it was mbr so i leave all default settings ... But the pc cound'nt start 🙏 please help me

Hi. Assuming this is W10 install, could this have been easily achieved using a utility like DiskGenius / Aomei Partition Assistant or several other tools to just delete all existing partitions on the disk. They have disk wipe also (no bad idea if 500GB or under), then W10 setup on UEFI system is going to auto create GPT style partition table instead of MBR? Maybe missing some details about this, not sure 🙂

I got the error: Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation.
Then when I tried again, I had three partitions, 1 System 2 MSR (Reserved) 3 Primary. However, on Primary there is an alert saying : We couldn’t create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.

Hey, I followed your steps and I'm getting an error saying "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install windows, restart the installation." And when I restart the installation and try again the error message for the efi formatted to NTFS error thing pops up again. Any help would be great

I think that i cleaned the wrong disk and deleted the window installer from the usb
Worked for me. I was getting "Windows cannot be installed to the hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted in NTFS" error message when trying to do a fresh install of windows 10.

i done this before and it was always too complicated either changing bios uefi settings i could not find or either making bootable disk partition manager software why did i not know this sooner!? Thank you soo much!!
