I never thought in a million years I would forget how to use BCDedit correctly. My issue was I had a corrupted GPT partition that had something like 4 folders that were absolutely bad. Fortunately, I was able to restore back to MBR and get the system to boot. There were a few bad moments when I was pulling my hair, but I decided to just bypass the GPT boot entirely and use the drive with the MBR boot on it. That worked. I thought I was doing it right, but I was doing it thinking I had no MBR boot. So, my command was (for my sanity's sake..) BCDBOOT E:\Windows /s E: /f BIOS Then I put in my install CD and had the setup find NO profile at all, and told it to scan and I allowed it to repair. Came back and there were no errors and the repair was just allowing the system CD to get system back. Profile was restored and it was glorious! Thank you very much for helping out! It is appreciated.

I ended up not needing to convert my GPT to MBR. The BCD command was the piece I was missing. But I had to remove the /f argument to get windows to finally boot. So basically for me, it was simply setting the first two parameters only, and then nothing else on the command line. LIFE SAVER!!!

4:15 guys after confirming the volume directory just follow the entire script he wrote and then the continue tab should appear. Thanks my man you save my life. I changed to gpt without knowing my bios has no boot mode then i stuck at unbootable. Used my friends laptop and sata to usb cable to convert to mbr. Then follow your instructions. Done! Dear friend, As for as non os disk no may not need command prompt. but for os disk, half of the time it works without command prompt, but we can not confirm it. Just watched your GPT to MBR video. I'm not quite sure where to find the BCDBOOT Command: as it's not mentioned on the video. What if my Windows file and OS file are all on c: drive? What would the bcdboot command look like?

@@brainerstech I just downloaded disk genius. I noticed there is a feature called "system migration". Can I just use system migration to copy my original window GPT drive (500 Gb) to a larger empty GPT drive (1 Tb)?
This actually worked however i only converted grom GPT to MBR and just used Macrium's Recovery Media to fix the boot problems since i had made it, before I realized the issue was that the PC simply couldnt boot UEFI despite having the option. All's well that ends well

Open a command prompt. Type in diskpart. Type list disk to see a list of disks. Type select disk # (where # is the disk you want) Type detail disk to see partitions. Type select volume # (where # is the volume you want) Type assign letter=x (where x is the drive letter)
The solution one, when i start the Windows converted to MBR; appears a blue screen with the message "Missing File windows/system32/winload.efi". I dont know why, maybe because i have customized OS 10, idk

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It worked perfectly. I had spent a day trying all kinds of ways to convert from GPT to MBR without losing data, and Disk Genius worked flawlessly. Then I used Macrium Reflect's boot repair module from the Macrium Reflect rescue disk to automatically rebuild the master boot record. Thanks so much.

Is there a way to convert disk to gpt to mbr with a bootable USB drive? I'm working with a bootable Batocera USB drive. I have converted GPT to MBR, but upon booting to the USB I receive a boot failure error.

For Solution 1 (convert OS disk GPT->MBR) will a windows recovery disk generated from an activated & working installation work for this? I'm asking because I have a 2nd hand PC without original Win installation disk - which would have been Win8 I think - which now has legit Win10 installation.

Your recipe (GPT>MBR for boot disk) falls over at the BCD stage, which is sparsely-explained - in contrast to the rest of the video, which is en pointe. Also, and opening other possibilities for explaining the failure, there is A) discrepancy between your verbal description and the on-screen typing (localisation switch not used); and B) what you type does not correspond to the format the program itself uses as illustration (en-us vs us-en). Further, Diskgenius explicitly says it isn't to be installed on the disk on which conversion is to be attempted, but this seems to be what you have done. Sorry to sound critical (I'm not, I'm VERY appreciative of you tackling this tricky area) but for lack of critical details, you have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. So I've set out what I've seen in detail so you can do a follow-up to address this if you wish. Thanks again for tackling one of the more tricky system problems.

Brother - Command prompt convert option works only after cleaning data. once data is cleaned - we can not recover. This video has other options without data loss, but anyway as i said it is too late.
Brother - To use UEFI you need GPT. Now question is why do you want to convert to MBR? If you booted for OS reinstall and its asking you to convert to MBR, you restart and start installation media in UEFI mode. If any other reason - pls add another new comment. Dear Friend - Please follow the steps exactly as I did, you wont lose data. Below are some of the reasons for data loss: May be data was lost before conversion step itself. Wrong disk or part was selected/assumed while processing.
Pls follow the steps exactly to download free version, they also provide paid version.. but as long as you follow my steps you will get the free version.
@@brainerstech brother i made a windows bootable usb using a friend's laptop. Did all these steps. The windows still didn't boot. So i thought to boot again into bootable usb windows installation media, and that booted me into installed Windows. Now everytime i wanted to boot into my installed Windows, i had to select usb mass storage device which actually has windows installation media but takes me to installed Windows. Even unplugging usb when using Windows gave me blue screen errors. The only way I could fix this crap was to convert MBR back to GPT using mini tool partition wizard and then boot into windows installation media and finally create gpt boot files which actually worked.
Dude - Ideally that should also work but not sure if the free version support it without limitations. Since it worked for me, i would suggest you to use disk genius.

I discovered that disk genius can't convert a hard disk with more than four primary partitions.
Brother...it is not disk genius limitation....that is the limitation of MBR itself...
diskpart
list disk
select disk
clean
convert mbr
clean
exit

Brother - Command prompt convert option works only after cleaning data. once data is cleaned - we can not recover.
This video has other options without data loss, but anyway as i said it is too late.
I want to ask, does this break your PC if it is using UEFI?
Brother - To use UEFI you need GPT.
Now question is why do you want to convert to MBR?
If you booted for OS reinstall and its asking you to convert to MBR, you restart and start installation media in UEFI mode.

Dear Friend - Please follow the steps exactly as I did, you wont lose data. Below are some of the reasons for data loss:
May be data was lost before conversion step itself.
Wrong disk or part was selected/assumed while processing.
Is Disk Genius free of premium charges?
Pls follow the steps exactly to download free version, they also provide paid version.. but as long as you follow my steps you will get the free version.
Can you use Linux live usb to install windows mbr boot files as I don't have a windows bootable usb with me

@@brainerstech brother i made a windows bootable usb using a friend's laptop. Did all these steps. The windows still didn't boot. So i thought to boot again into bootable usb windows installation media, and that booted me into installed Windows. Now everytime i wanted to boot into my installed Windows, i had to select usb mass storage device which actually has windows installation media but takes me to installed Windows. Even unplugging usb when using Windows gave me blue screen errors.
The only way I could fix this crap was to convert MBR back to GPT using mini tool partition wizard and then boot into windows installation media and finally create gpt boot files which actually worked.

Dude - Ideally that should also work but not sure if the free version support it without limitations. Since it worked for me, i would suggest you to use disk genius.
