    Would like to mention that your video reminds me of a young Michael Caine.. (also incredibly well done, maybe the best I ever watched.) Now speaking as a PC tech of 30 years, I was doubtful this technique would work on my target machine. In my situation, it failed before the horse even left the starting gate. The target system is a 9th gen i3 with a Samsung 970 Pro 512g NVMe drive, no DVD, and just the simple MBR partitions, for which I added an extra D drive partition (long ago) so I could back up C to D with Macrium and have all the docs/downloads/videos/etc folders isolated safely on D. This technique is a life saver. Regardless, when I ran MBR2GPT to verify...the system insisted there was no drive 0. To make sure I was not losing my mind, I ran DISK PART and LIST to confirm that the 512 GB drive was indeed drive 0. My thoughts are that your methods may not work on an NVMe drive, due to the unique way the drive is primed for booting. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated, but it looks like all the machines I have built for the bond trading group whose machines I service, will need a total wipe out to get GPT and Win 11.

    I actually blundered into this fantastic tutorial 3 months too late. My gaming PC died and due to other issues I wound up with a "refurbished" Dell Optima 9010 that was setup to run in "Legacy" mode. It has Win 10, a SSD and an HDD (2 tb) so I decided to use it for gaming.....
    When I installed a video card is when the problem was apparent.
    I did manage to convert it, but I did it the hard way, and made another partition in the SSD "C:" drive. After changing the boot sequence to UEFI I was able use this PC for gaming.
    Very clear, very concise, I certainly wish I had seen this before I went through all the hell I went through....

    Great instructs on how to convert your MBR? to GPT?, except what they are & why we even need to do it?

    • @invidios
      @invidios 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Which is better GPT or MBR?
      GPT is better if you are planning to create more than 4 partitions. We have said an MBR disk can hold 4 primary partitions at most while a GPT disk supports up to 128 primary partitions in Windows, so you can choose GPT if you want more partitions.
      Is GPT faster than MBR?
      The final result, Compared with booting from MBR disk, it's faster and more stable to boot Windows from GPT disk so that your computer performance could be improved, which is largely due to the design of UEFI.
      Is MBR or GPT better for gaming?
      For gaming you will be fine with either MBR or GPT (though I personally would go with GPT). Basically speaking it is only in situation when you would like to have a partition bigger than 2TB, or when you would like to have more than four primary partitions, that you need to use GPT.
      All the best, Leo. :)

      it's been months but yes, I've moved my os to my new ssd and kept old files from my hdd. It was a hefty process though

    I converted with aomei partition assistant because diskpart is not working for system disk

    • @yorl418
      @yorl418 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn’t it not free ? I tried and I needed to pay because the demo wouldn’t do the conversion.

  • @CharlieRunnalls
    @CharlieRunnalls 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's always been free though and without mbr2gpt!
    Open CMD with admin privileges
    > Disk part
    >List disk
    >Select disk X
    >Clean (or don't clean if OS drive)
    >Convert to GPT
    >Exit

    remember coming across this MBR GPT with SSD Drives when changing old HD to SSD

    • @peterdobson3435
      @peterdobson3435 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I had to clone an old HD to an SSD and had a considerable amount of trouble with it insisting on using GPT. I had to use EaseUS Partition Master to get the thing to clone the original MBR to the new SSD as a MBR. The system wouldn't boot to the clone unless I did that. Everyone expects you to have new systems that are going to be GPT based.

    Thanks, I tried for weeks to find out why I couldn't switch from mbr to gpt, bcos I never had a partition, or it couldn't be found, I stumbles accross something I tried, which fixed it, and I had to rebuild my BCD file, after I rebuilt that, I tried to convert to gpt, and it worked first time, thanks for this video too.
