Biggest Can Crushers in MMA

  • The term "can crusher" refers to a fighter who pads their record fighting less-then-stellar competition. While more associated with boxing, MMA's seen a number of fighters build deceptively strong records, only to come unstuck the moment their opponents took an upturn in quality.

    • @randallflagg3700
      @randallflagg3700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      What has been annoying to me ever since Page's MMA debut, is that, ok he fights cans & washed up fighters to get cool looking KOs, that's his gimmick, we get it.
      But then, why doesn't he at least fight more often?
      His schedule is that of a fighter who competes against actual threats, when, considering the level of his opponents, he could probably fight as often as Travis Fulton and Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch
      (as a sidenote, I'm so happy that Fulton's retirement bout was against Shannon; the dude with the most fights in MMA vs the guy with the second most MMA fights; it was so weird how they'd never faced each other before; must have had something to do with Fulton being a HW, and Ritch being a MW/LHW...)
      Back to Venom; to be fair, he did pick up the slack in 2019, and started to fight more often than twice a year. And aside from MMA he also boxed twice, against a dude with a record of 1 win and 12 losses, and another who was 1 and 5.
      So he finally got busy these last couple years, but at 33... should have picked up the pace earlier, instead of wasting his prime years fighting 2 cans a year in average.

  • @swamp9136
    @swamp9136 3 ปีที่แล้ว +117

    Fulton isn't a can crusher moreso a dude who just wanted to fight 3 times a week. I used to fight in Iowa in those promotions as well as fighting in promotions ran by Fulton. Dude would just show up and fight anybody. In those days we didn't have weight classes or distinctions in weight class/career level. You literally fought whoever was there. He doesn't taut his 300+ fight record, promotors do to get their money's worth on tickets. Dude is legit humble.

      It's also worth notice that Fulton had LOST more fights than most fights had FOUGHT. His final record was 257-55-10. He probably DID fight a lot of nobodies, but if you decide to take literally any fight (which you'd have to, to fight an average of once every 24.6 days for 21 years, 8 months, and 9 days), you're going to fight a lot of nobodies. Most of his fights on Tapology don't even list a promotion, just "Iowa Regional" or "Minnesota Regional".

      @@marlanvittorin I don't think you're getting the concept of can crushing. Michael Page is seen as a can crusher because he constantly fights guys that are VERY low level competition as seen in the 3-1 guy he fought after losing. Sage Northcutt, aside from his regional days, has not fought cans. He has won against guys at the same level as him like Ottow and Gouti and has lost against guys who are comparable to him in skill level like Gall and has also lost against guys who are just better than him like Cosmo. That's not can crushing.
