I find this very true, having gone through COVID with fear, anxiety, and depression in a major way. Though COVID was supposed to be relatively harmless - symptoms like the cold - I found it the worst experience imaginable. I had a fever, hallucinogenic dreams, pneumonia, tinnitus, anxiety, and depression, and I thought my life was over. There was nothing left of me. Anyway, I survived but found out I have major anxiety partially coming through that experience. What you said about going into a better mental state and not being caught up in my thinking is very true. I think I have had LONG COVID, and I am slowly getting better. And I also realize that the body plays a big role in your thoughts and mental state. Returning to a more regulated nervous system is what is needed. Thank you again for the clarity of your ideas.
@@mindbodyintegrate Yes, and I believe that COVID itself creates anxiety as a symptom. I went through hell whereas other people have mild physical symptoms, like having a cold. It varies. Thanks for responding.
Loved this video! I found a relaxed approach to the state of my nervous system really helpful, rather than getting stressed about being in a stressed state which was NOT helpful🙈just knowing that whatever state I’m in right now is ok and I will shift back into a more relaxed state at some point when my body is ready was helpful. And Just trying to focus on nice, relaxing things as much as possible when in a wired state
Thanks Katie! yes, I think I spent a lot of time before thinking that the NS was a problem to be solved but the more I lived in my head trying to work it out the further away I got from actually feeling relaxed.
Have you found that those who have flu even get this? I had mold illness and then got Covid and Covid caused panic attacks and extreme hyperactivity in my nervous system. It’s been a year since Covid and my nervous system was calming down but now I’m on day 7 of the flu and it has been HORRID for my nervous system again. I can understand needing to feel certain emotions. It is such a hard thing to do when you already feel so much anxiety and depression.
Lucy, what are your views on 'brain retraining/rewiring' neuroplasticity recovery programs, i.e. Gupta, DNRS, ANS REWIRE, etc. Ive tried one but eventually ended up finding it stressful.
So I think there is some useful information in these programs. As far as I'm aware there is little focus on possible repressed emotions, also they possibly don't emphasise feeling your feelings as much as a mind-body approach (as taught by Dr. Sarno and Dr. Schubiner). They also focus on switching from negative thinking to positive, but sometimes noticing and feeling the negative is important too. They are also very structured, that you have to do a certain routine in the morning in a certain way and I've come across quite a few people that struggle with becoming overly structured in their day because of this routine. So for some people, brain retraining programs can help, I did Gupta and didn't find it helpful when I was unwell but I wasn't good at following the structure. From my experience, my time was better spent reading mind-body books by Dr. Sarno and Schubiner and learning more about that.
When I initially caught covid my symptoms were mild, but the symptoms got worse as time went on and it turned into long covid. I caught covid really early on in the pandemic, I was at a meditation retreat with many people and there was no distancing.
@@mindbodyintegrate ok so you have long Covid since 2020? Are you still having symptoms? Also I have been very blessed to never get Covid because I don’t be exposed by lot of people daily and I stay away from crowded places 😷
@@mindbodyintegrate glad that you are doing well 🙏🏽 2020 was the worse year to get Covid because lots of people died unfortunately Also I heard that Covid worse than the flu
It affects people differently but for me and many others it is similar to the flu, I got it again last year and I felt a bit unwell for 2 weeks but it wasn't too bad, I never got a temperature with it.

Thanks for sharing, it can be really anxiety-provoking to catch covid and I think that can have a big impact on the nervous system.

I completely agree!!!!!!!!

I found this very helpful! I was just thinking today, that I tend to want to push my NS into another state. Thank you. 😊
