To me, I would go 9mm, 5.56/.223, .22LR, 12g, and .308. Covers defense, short medium and long range. I know there’s a diff in the .223 and 5.56 green tip, but just stick with green tip if you can have one and only one version. 20g is nice, but you can get mini shells for 12g if you are worried about recoil

22lr (practice\varmits) 9mm (handgun), 5.56 (short to medium rifle range) .308 (longer rifle range). I prefer 5.56 for carbine since it easier to manenuer especially in buildings. 5.56 55 grain bullets dump most of their energy into soft body targets than green tip 62 grain rounds. I don't think body armor is a big deal WRoL\SHTF as few people have it.
I won't use ammo to barter with, as those round might end returned back to you at very high velocities. Not worth it. Plus if you sell rounds to a person that commits a crime, & they finger you, the ATF is going to pound you dead poor in court (lawyer fees), and probably seize everything you got.

@Kevin Hart i mostly agree with your take. Although your times line and example/time frame of game being gone and people becoming cannibals is likely not going to happen in the majority of the US.
Location is a key factor in your needs and likely survival rate. If you live in a “concrete jungle”, the death rate/time line you propose is spot on. However, if you live in a much more rural area, your community may go
      Completely unscathed.
I don’t know your personal experience experiences… However, I’ve lived in quite a few places over 50 years. Rural America still have the elements of a self sustaining society.
And in my opinion, if you can afford night vision, suppressors, and then like, you certainly can afford a pump action 12 gauge. They are reliable, easy to work, and I the event that you have to breach doors (be on the attack) it’s a formidable tool.

I agree with 4 out of 5 .. I replace .223 with .308 so that I have some distance and because I have run an M1A and M1A Scout for a long time and have plenty of mags .. and lots of ammo for them as well as a couple parts kits. As for shotgun rounds .. push comes to shove i think there is more 12 ga out there than 20 but I could be wrong there. We have an extended family and friends group .. we do not all run the same guns .. but every adult has a long gun in 5.56 and a handgun in 9mm .. there are more than enough .22's for everyone over 10 .. most of us have a shotgun although not all have a short barreled one .. and there are enough .308 hunting caliber rifles although most are bolt. Some may prefer other guns for right now .. but when we buy ammo as a group we stick to .308/5.56/12ga/9mm/.22.

Dude, first of all....I clearly don't have the disposable money to spend as you do. Plus, I'd rather spend that same thousands to heavily supply 4 rifles/4 people (safely in numbers) and take the risk with Streamlights than go all-Rambo alone in the middle of the night. People will absolutely be moving during the day as there is an incredibly small amount of people that have, let alone are trained on, NODS. Survival is about a strong community/group, not an individual person-but you should know this since you seem to be well-versed in SHTF...good luck hunting/gathering anything medium game and above with your weapon choice, here in Colorado there are more serious wildlife to contend with. I live in the mountains in Idaho. Been stocking for a bit . I already have bartered ammo for carpeting, construction, and many linear feet of shiplap and aged galvanized metal. My basics are 12ga assorted, 7.62x51, 5.56, 45acp, 9mm, 50cal 22lr by the kilo. 40sw, 357sig, 30-06,30 carbine and a few others are in bulk as well. Don’t forget to keep a vast variety of everything else. I mean everything. Better than krugerrands. Lead, copper, primers and powder are also a must.

I structured my retirement plan around firearms and ammo. How much ammo should a prepper stockpile...??? To quote Bear (Bear Independent)... “ALL OF IT...!!!”
I personally, buy ammo in 1k bulk lots...!!!
    I don’t see the validity behind getting into 380acp if you have 9mm. The calibers I do have on hand are: *22LR. *9mm. 300BLK. 45acp. for handguns (and a few carbines)... *223/5.56x45. .*308win/7.62x54. *7.62x39. .30-‘06. *300BLK. 300WSM for carbines/rifles... 410, *20, and 12ga for shotguns...
Additionally, since I train (a lot) with these calibers, I reload. This is even less expensive than buying in bulk...!!!
Edit: My 12yo granddaughter is one of the main reasons behind chamberings marked with (*)... (even though I use 20ga as my “home defense” long gun)...!

found your videos for the first time today! subscribed immediately when I read your Bio on your store :D I'll just say if dealing with Firewarms in the Matthew 24 world we find ourselves in.... we can be blessed having advice from a Christian!.
I had to manage cost.. love the gun control shirt... buying only one gun when you want 4 or 5. LOL. We focused on 22lr for cost, bulk, available.. and in Canada like the US, a lot of our hardware is at risk with government intrusions on Rights
but I want to be able to have ability to get food.. and protect the store and my family from those that think they want it. 22lr is good for my wife to handle and good for suppression. then 12ga. is much more common and a variety of configurations. bird, buck and slug. I have not considered the non lethal and that is a good idea for the first rounds in a cruiser ready home defence Shotgun configuration. if you have to call in a defence event to the authorities, you will be on the defence with the law... and having non lethal rounds available can help prove your defence position... while having a progressive array of rounds with a slug or defensive Buck for a closer if it is needed.
I will add one more... I bought a 22lr reloader kit with primall to extend the life of the stockpile. I also picked up the survival reloader 12ga delux kit. and stocked up on primers and powder... powder being the most difficult to obtain. both kits are tiny and fit in a cargo pocket.

Good video Sir! But you missed a few because of your 5.56/223 choices. 7.62x39 will take one slot away. What about .308 or 7.62x54r both full sized rounds that will a failure to penetrate armor, will incapacitate a person. .45 ACP is still used same with .40S&W.That bucket of Remington will make a great doorstop, but I found that to be THE WORST 22 lr ammo I've tried EVER. Having a horde of ammo is good yes, but it doesn't function reliably it's not worth it. FYI I tried it in 3 10/22s, Marlin 70 PSS, 2 separate GSGs and a Savage, I found a lot of FTF, FTE & lots of varied accuracy. I stock up on Fed brands or Aguila as my main choices. CCI 22s are also great. 12g over 20g as there are more of them, if you're thinking barter.

The question everyone has to ask themselves is, do you want to buy what other people are looking to buy and do you want to buy what most people want or what somebody might be looking for, but can't easily find? And is the purpose mostly defense or hunting?
Your video was focused on buying the most popularly sold/purchased ammunition which makes sense. If a person choses to buy other types of ammunition it might be that those who stock the less popular stuff not seen on shelves as much as it used to be will probably do well reselling their ammo because they are fulfilling a niche or void in the secondary market. But for an investment, it makes sense to buy the popular calibers you recommended, which then allows me the choice to use it for myself or to sell or trade some of it.
Personally, I like your choices, but I would consider buying some .308, .357 and .38, .40 for those people who jumped on the .40 caliber wagon and have some good .45 Auto for those 1911 fans. If I was going to stick to classic firearms then I'd buy up as much military surplus ammunition as I could in 8mm, 30-06 and the like. For me it would depend on the prices and if I could get a good deal on anything then I would buy it for investment purposes. I have a K98 and I have to order the 8mm rounds for it and really stock up.
For people who like revolvers and lever-action rifles, the .30-30, .357, .44, or even .22 would be popular calibers. As I understand, at least one company makes lever-actions that even use 9mm. It depends on where you live sometimes. And in some places some calibers sell slower, so it's there and it's easy to buy. It might not be available later.
I notice a lot of people like the .300 Blackout for their AR-15's, but you did not mention this round or how popular it is or is not.
And I don't hunt, but I know they have a long list of calibers for that purpose, but most preppers plan to use .22, .223, 5.56 or .308 or go to a shotgun.

green tip not good for dealing with armor it's not an armor piercing round its good on intermediate barriers people saying that exact thing it the reason the ATF tried to ban the sale of it. Honestly it's really not that great unless you're shooting through barriers it tends to poke ice pick wounds though with a long enough barrel it does work well. Honestly m193 or 55gr fmj is far superior in terminal ballistics out of shorter barrels14.5,16 etc especially ar pistols.223 and 5.56 are just about one in the same I would've had 9mm, .22lr, 5.56/.223, 12ga, .308 or 30-06 depending on the patform used and if you're a handloader. Truth be told if you're not stocking actual rounds that work for defensive measures like mk262, vmax, varmageddon, soft points, gold dots or the like you're doing yourself a disservice. Yeah i keep a bunch of fmj but it's for training not defense and I keep defensive rounds for that part of the equation

I don't think you should barter with ammo, people will realize or think you have more ammo than you need or should have, then you become a target. As for 223 I would drop it and add 45 acp, when times go bad the less people know you have the better you will be

Love me a good "Top...List" l😊! Ok, I will go with 9mm, 30-06, 5.56/223, 12ga, and .22. Now for me, I also have to add in a couple...45 acp, and 30-30 (yes, I know. I know. But here in the western mountains of VA, that cartridge is worth its weight in gold, and there's about a million lever guns made for it around here). By the way, another cartridge I wish everybody would stock up on, and you have to think it out a little bit based on the equipment you have, but .22 Short. Fantastic hunting round for small game, quiet and accurate. It won't cycle semiautos sometimes, but in a revolver or bolt....it's a sweetie. God bless!

I agree with your choice, but I also like the .45ACP. All these rounds you will find somewhere if SHTF and you have to move on foot across the country. Dig around barn rubble and you’ll probably find some .22’s, but right now the government is trying to take our guns, next will be ammo, so stock up. I like your videos.

I have never understood the need for 20 gauge. I have two Stevens Security 320, one in 12 gauge and the other in 20 gauge. There weighs and dimensions are exactly the same, so there is no weight or size advantage with the 20 gauge. Magazine capacities are also the same. You can get lower powered 12 gauge rounds to limit penetration or recoil, but (if you are a reloader), you can't push the 20 gauge above its SAAMI specs to equal the power of a 12 gauge.
Also, there are a kazillion accessories for the 12 gauge. I have found magazine extensions for my 12 gauge but can't find any for the 20 gauge. The same for flashlight attachments. I have a flashlight attachment that fits the tubular magazine for my 12 gauge, but it is slightly too big to fit the 20 gauge tube securely. Haven't yet found one that fits a 20 gauge. And the list goes on.

Would certainly add 38/357 which is essential for a handgun and lever rifle. 380 for a pocket or back up. A long range rifle caliber, 308 will handle most chores. There are others but these will round out for most. Honorable mention and optional, 45 acp

Yep, to me, 5.56 and .223 are the same. So pick one or the other, or both, they're in the same category. I'd add a battle rifle caliber, or a popular hunting caliber. In my neck of the woods,.30-06, .270, .308, and .30-30 are popular. With that said, the .308/7.62x51 is a battle rifle cartridge, so it would be the logical choice to stock pile. Although, the .30-06 is the OG battle rifle cartridge, I'm betting more people have AR308s than M1s. 🙂

“.45 ACP … because having to fire more than once is just silly.” One of my favorite sayings!
.22/ .9mm / .45 / .308 / and some .45-70 for Bear defense. You’re absolutely correct in my humble opinion; I have for years been telling my friends and family that ammunition is an investment that is better than gold because the day may come when it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Excellent video, good advice! In regards to shotgun ammo, 12 gauge in particular, I currently have 11 different types of ammo for it, and plan to add a couple more different rounds! Reason; because you never know what the threat might be, and if whatever you’re using doesn’t stop the threat, you can upgrade to something that will!
