Well I've found it very confusing after GarageBand on my MacBook ......... half the time the fine controls seem hidden or inaccessible, the other half it feels like a toy. I imagine it's just operator ineptitude but likewise, I appreciate Patrick's advice very much.
Garage band “simple”? Maybe in comparison to pro tools… which makes Excel look like Mary Poppins. I find garage band to be a major pain in my ass that needs to be redeveloped. Many of the most simple functions are not obvious, or easy to find. They’re buried within the application
Of all the many years of using and endorsing Apple products and apps, GarageBand is by far the least intuitive of all time. It helps tremendously to see someone actually use it to even begin to understand the buttons, layers, and what isn’t available without preliminary work. Thanks for this!
Very specific and terrific video. thanks Apple should officially endorse this video mate ! My channel is ALL about music for preschool kids and now maybe I can start making my own music instead of hiring out. I do love collaborating with other songwriters and composers.
thanks so much! lots of info about GB for mac computer but this is the first i have found for an iPad which is totally different. Please keep it coming!
Hi Firstly may I thank you for all your great content and videos. I’ve watched quite a few of them over the last month or so. Whilst I’ve been recovering from a double hernia operation. I used to play in a band and guitar and do a lot of recording many years ago but haven’t done so for probably the last nine or 10 years Recently recovering and getting back into playing been inspired to get back into doing some music writing and recording and found your videos about GarageBand and the relevant accessories that can go with an iPad very useful. I’ve started my new TH-cam channel to document my journey from a young age, playing guitar in a band and writing music. I’m going to review some of the products that I’ve purchased from recommendations in some of your videos and if you’re happy I’d like to put a shout out to your channel to the viewers because I found it very helpful and very useful. If you’re happy with that let me know. Thank you Jason😃👍🏻🎸
How about a tutorial on outputs for us newbs. Multiple headphones, corded vs. Bluetooth phones, built-in output vs the jack on your audio interface, plugging into a stereo, etc. Also, thanks for teaching me the proper way to pronounce 'garage'. 😁
I'd like to thank you. I'm new to iOS coming from a pc. I bought an iPad 10th gen and had a presonus audio box i2 .The expensive camera adapter (Which I found out later I didn't need) .It seems that MY presonus was ether faulty or old (it was one of the original early itwo boxes) After watching another of your videos I bought the mini fuse2 . works perfectly, so , it MAY be that ALL the EARLY ORIGINAL audiobox I two models might be the same. I mention this in case some new subscribers might be looking around for hardware and be tempted to buy a old used Audiobox I two, just to say it might NOT work.
Hi and thanks for a very helpful video. I am currently using MainStage for live performance. I would like to move to an ipad but, since they don’t make MainStage for ios, I thought I might be able to use GarageBand. I have come across what is probably a deal killer. Can you confirm that you can’t control GarageBand with a midi controller? Thanks again.
Nice video. If you don't mind, I have a newbie question. The audio recorder has a clean preset that can be used with Tonebridge. Is there a version of that preset that I can use with an imported midi file and Tonebridge? As in, as an instrument as I don't have a real guitar. The instruments I've tried (even cleaner, effect free ones) all tend to distort the Tonebridge sound. Is this even possible to do?
Most audio apps and programs allow the user to specify the audio and midi input. I cannot find the place in Garageband to tell it to use my connected Midi Controller Keyboard as Midi input. This has prevented me for 6 years from making music with my 2017 iPad Pro. Can you please tell me where I specify, in Garageband iOS, what device to use for Midi input?
But i got an very important question ? Ok so can you actually play a real guitar on it without a chord hooked to it like will it pick up the guitar sound just like that app that picks u up when u tune it ??

Hi Hello. Thank you for these videos, it helps me a lot! One thing that i don't understand is that it seems that it's impossible to record effects control on real time. When we record a instrument with effects or pedalbord, it always stays at same level of control. We can't touche the effects in same time as we recording. Is there any technic to record the sound effect control in realtime? Thank you!
whenever I record a new track, I can no longer see the timeline view, meaning I cannot see all the other tracks. Please tell me there is a solution to this, it‘s super frustrating
How do you monitor vocals using the iPads internal mic when you have headphones plugged in to the usb c connector on the iPad Pro please? GarageBand doesn’t recognise the internal mic at all and therefore won’t monitor
Hello Patrick, I’m just looking through your videos to get a little help with Garageband as I need to record myself playing Uke (and singing). As I’m often not at home so I just wanted to carry my iPad around but I have a little trouble to set GB to the desired time signature of 5/4. And how can I switch to a different time signature in the same song e.g. every 3 measures? Perhaps anybody can help me. Thanks in advance.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Thank you very much for your answer. I thought that there was a workaround but if you don‘t know it there definitively won‘t be any. Thanks.
Hey Patrick, I searched the channel am unable to answer this question.... How do I import a cubase file into GB ? Any guidance would be appreciated. I am trying to convert my current library.
You can’t unfortunately. You’ll need to export each track one by one (or use an export stems options if cubase has it) then import those tracks into GB.
I would like a real tutorial on how to just open, and move to the different sections. And to to exit. The program doesn’t have buttons to open a menu and iPhone XR only has three buttons. Swiping mostly doesn’t work so how do you move through it? It’s so elementary but without it it’s a worthless piece of crap. Anyway can anyone help here?
Not sure what you mean Dan - you’d use the iPhone’s touch screen to navigate through the app. You wouldn’t use the phone’s physical buttons at all. Having said that the iPhone version is different enough that maybe I should make an iPhone specific tutorial?
I don't get why they bother putting this program on phones. Do people seriously make good music using only a phone? Isn't it a huge pain in the butt to play anything or edit on such a little screen with your finger?
Nah it’s actually pretty easy on mobile, it’s just if your more used to using PC or Laptop you find it easier to play of make things on that, but it’s the same way for mobile
@@JJ.1122 Really? You can do those teeny little precise adjustments that you need to do for audio editing, with you fingers instead of with a mouse? And you have enough room on the screen to be able to see the whole project if it's anything more than three or four tracks, stacked on top of each other? Do you do tutorials? If not, you really should.
@@mangobeepoppin2712 yeah, but how is it easy on a tablet, though? I mean, you still have to move the clips around and adjust them with your fingers, right? How could you possibly make the teeny little precise adjustments you need to do, with your fingers or a styluss? I’ve never really used Garage Band before, for any actual projects, but I do have a lot of experience editing on Adobe Audition, making radio commercials. Maybe Audition is just more precise than other programs? It let’s you zoom ALL the way in on an audio clip, down to the tiniest part of the waveform, so you can make precise perfect cuts exactly where you need them and align your music and vocal tracts exactly where you want them. Unfortunately, I don’t have Audition anymore, so I’m stuck having to use Audacity, which sucks. You can’t zoom in on the waveform nearly as close, so the track alignment is very sloppy. I can’t imagine trying to do that with my finger on a touch screen. It would drive me crazy.
The picture-in-picture of your fingers on the pad is a really nice addition. Make that permanent.
Will do! Thanks for the feedback 👍
Despite how simple garage band is, I feel this video is a well-needed addition to its existence-thanks!
