living in Australia i can't believe i got lucky enough to see him live once, even tho it was with heaven and hell it was still an amazing moment that i will forever be glad for!!!
@@summermcpherson8209 i was 6 my father even said next year were gonna go to a concert and then few days later he told me that he died and i cried because we have like every rainbow album
I missed the Holy Diver tour, but saw him for for Last In Line and Sacred Heart. And who opened for him in Seattle? Yngwie frickin' Malmsteen. Still have the concert tickets. Best concerts I've ever been to.
2:22 I miss this particular crowd participation moment. Out of the entire body of work that the Dio band issued, this may be my favorite track. When I saw the movie not long ago and they were talking about Ronnie's attitude towards starting again after things with Sabbath went south the first time, the song's meaning crystallized for me.
This was the 80s. He would have been 62 in 2004 and he passed in 2010 just before his 68th birthday, unfortunately. And yes he was still rocking out til the end. Bless him. Love you Ronnie
It's the same old song You gotta be somewhere at sometime And they never let you fly It's like broken glass You get cut before you see it So open up your eyes You've got desire So let it out You've got the power Stand up and shout Shout, shout Stand up and shout You got wings of steel But they never really move you You only seem To crawl You've been nailed to the wheel But never really turning You know you've got to Want it all You've got desire So let it out You've got the power Stand up and shout Shout, shout Stand up and shout Let it out
Lived in Lethbridge Alberta and we didn’t get too many top notch big concerts coming our way so I was always driving to Calgary to catch shows. Saw Dio in the early 80’s with Yngwie as the opening act. I’ve seen Priest, AC/DC, Metallica, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, etc. You name them I’ve seen them as I was young lad back in the day in my late teens and this concert was absolutely top notch. I’ve seen probably 75+ concerts in my life and Dio is still right up there in my top 5. Maybe top 3. He was that good. The light and laser show was so awesome. His vocals spot on. Usually live shows you see a real noticeable drop off from the studio album. Not with RJD. Will never forget it and I am now a ripe old 55 year old lad that still cranks the metal and hard rock in the car although I have come to appreciate a lighter fare of music in my years to appease the travelling companions in the car. RJD. Thanks for the memories. We Rock!!!!!
4 songs from San Antonio 1988 were shown on MTV Headbangers Ball in 1988. This official video from Rhino is the first official release I know of.... but it's only online and 1 song. Many bootleg Dvds of the 4 songs are available and on youtube.
I think I like this more than the album version. Also, this proves that Viv really is a great guitarist, no matter what those Def Leppard detractors say.
@@nonrevnosnibormetalbeerrev6251 Well, it's a song from the first Dio album, Viv was the first guitarist for Dio, all sources say it was Viv. How is it not him on guitar?
@@gabrielbrouwer I just don't see where it says that this is from 87. Plus, from what I can find, of the different pro recorded live videos of this song, they're all either Viv, or Doug. And this doesn't look like it was one of the later performances. So, going by logic, it's easy to assume that it's Viv on stage in the video. But, prove me wrong. That's not a challenge or anything, I'm just genuinely curious.
I was a teenager when this came out. The whole devil in America was going on. This is no more devil worship than pink roses. Dio had a way of portraying things as the opposite. Just listen to the lyrics of the songs. These are awesome tracks. As a lead guitarist these are well put together and tailored perfectly to the lyrics. RIP DIO. Music lives forever and the sound waves travel through time so musicians are never forgotten. You just have to listen more closely.
