The Megane is really the only one made for the track. FN2 is for the European streets and the Scirocco R is definitely for the streets

Doge jUMPERR i agree the automatic sirocco feels boring to drive and the megane is a big 2.6 turbo car so id take the fn2 high reving na engine even if its the worst type-r ever made to me..

Yep, I got a few segments from VTEC club scheduled.
just look at the time attack times ... Scirocco and Megane were playing with the Type R...both are 2.2s quicker. during battle
Wich they did more videos with different cars.............
Scirocco R didn't turn tranction control off so TSC light keep blinking and partial power shut off. Megane turned TSC off as you can see from that dash.

The Scirocco seems like the average track day user who doesn’t let you pass even if it’s way slower than you, just because he has a powerful engine and a fast automatic trasmission. I’m not talking about the driver’s skills, I’m talking about how awkward that car is.

If there was a choice between Type R FN2, Giulietta QV and Focus ST mk2, which would you get and why?
Considering interior design and materials, built quality, driving experience?
Daniel FN2 for me (biased as I have one) but I originally went out to view a Focus ST and it was in a horrible way underneath and I never really smiled driving it even before I realised the issues. I already had a 1.6 Focus in the past and the ST never felt more special on the inside and it still felt sluggish in a corner. The FN2 had me smiling when I figured out when to shift to keep the power band and the interior for an 07 still feels incredible especially those seats which I couldn’t live without now.
As I said the focus had countless issues with driveshafts, general oil leaking and I’m positive a turbo issue was imminent. Whereas the FN2 all I’ve replaced in 6 months was a starter motor which I knew was going to go and did it under warranty, it’s now 100,000 miles and everything is still perfect mechanical-wise. Buying any car like this calls for a full service history though as I’m sure if the FN2 wasn’t serviced it wouldn’t be the same car.
Personally never been a fan of Alfa’s as I’ve just never really clicked with any of them but I’m sure someone else has had experience with them and could put their two pence in.

Daniel also, jump on the type-r forums and see if there’s someone nearby they’d be happy to take you out and show you what it’s like. Another pre-warning is when I went to look for focus’; I spoke to the guy who owns Tremona Garage (very highly respected ford specialist) and to find a really well looked after ST took his friend over a year, so unless you’re planning to buy and are willing to fix up quite a bit, it could be quite time consuming.

Ford ST is on the list because of the 5cyl Volvo engine - I am aware it is nice, reliable and sound well, but the interior in Ford St is... well, cheap and boring.
SAME for Golf V or VI GTI - it is just a Golf, only with 200 bhp. Nothing special.
This, and reliability, quality of built are reasons I am looking at CTR. Neighbour has red FK2, and apart for the price, my girlfriend told me she "will not enter this car, looking like a big piece of plastic bumpers and spoilers from Need for Speed". FN2 looks a little bit less extravagant.. 😉
I have seen Giulietta QV live, lady in the office had one, really nice car, great sound.. and 4 doors 😉
But the Civic FN2.. I like how it looks, sounds..
The Focus. Forget the Alfa. The Focus beats the FN2 hands down as it's much better to live with every day than the Civic. The FN2 is inferior to the older EP3, it is a real disappointment. It has a crashy harsh ride. Rear visibility is poor. The VTEC engine is of course revvy, but lacks torque low down with the added weight the FN2 has over the EP3. The Focus has an amazing compliant ride. The 5 cylinder is muscular. Big torque, pulls strong low down. Makes overtaking a breeze. It's also highly tunable. The Type R you can spend thousands on and only squeeze 20 more horsepower, the Focus you can spend 300 euros/GBP and add 50 horsepower instantaneously plus a wad of torque. It immediately takes the Focus ST to a higher level than the FN2. A stock ST walks away from the Type R in a drag. Above 40mph it's way faster in gear and rolling. It has so much more torque that it's as fast as the Type R in a higher gear! E.g 30-70mph in 4th is as fast in the ST as the Type R in 3rd lol. The Focus has a talent for oversteer, it's a lot of fun. I suspect the later FN2 Type R would be a little faster around a track since the ST lacks a locking front differential, but on the road the overall package of the ST is way better.
It's cheaper to insure, it is cheaper to run in Europe as it's a Ford and parts are nothing. Reliability is very good. It's heavy on fuel, that's the downside, but not much worse than the FN2.
@@Daniel-ti3pv In terms of mechanical reliability the Type R ranks higher, but the Focus is not far behind and certainly not an unreliable car if you choose a well looked after example. There are a few weak points, but surprisingly I found the Type R more prone to corrosion and stone chips on the stubby nose. As long as the ST isn't corroding on the rear arches where the bumper meets the quarter panel (they tended to rub and remove paint then rust) and that the lower front sills are solid (they need large mudflaps to keep wet dirt getting crammed in there) it's all good. The Type R can go anywhere, particularly the upper windscreen frame, rear suspension, doors seals, around the bonnet catch....It's not Honda's finest car.

why in older videos the engines are modified but they keep the stock air box? why they don't use intakes?
EK9GraphicDesign I'd say they just drop in high flow air filter into the box, that's it. The box is closed and sucks colder air from the fender well area, or maybe they feed colder air directly to the bottom of the box which is not visible in the shots. I don't know if there was a better solution for the intake at the time of shooting the video, probably not.

thats a good question, i believe the citr/itr stock setup is actually pretty good, it does what it needs to do and like miroshi said they probably change the air filter only. the japanese tuners address other things in the engine that they feel make more of difference in order to acheive the desired power/performance for their cars
I think it's because a cold air intake doesn't give enough power in the entire power band
I mean that the cold air intake will gives you 5hp at high rev and will make no difference
individual throttle body will give you a quicker response in the throttle but still don't give you much power anyway
also aftermarket intakes tend to lose the air velocity wich means that your engine needs to rev higher to compensate and since the cai take its air at the same place than the stock intake it's pretty useless for the price and the little to no power you'll get
EK9GraphicDesign Intakes usually cause a power loss. Especially short rams. The heat soak would cause a power loss due to them sucking in hotter air.

Dori-Dori who is more skilled should have drive the Fn2 that is less fast to see a equal battle.
They are all same level professional drivers. Keiichi Tsuchiya was really good in Super GT, but not outstanding (2nd in GT500 in 2001). Tatsuya Kataoka (Civic driver) took three GT300 titles and is still racing, maybe Takayuki Kinoshita (Scirocco driver) does not have such an impressive CV. It's only that the races are often staged so Tsuchiya as the show's host looks best, same with Gan-San in earlier episodes. In the end it's entertainment, the drivers are definitely not the deciding factor here.
Halfway through I forgot there's a Honda in the race. Or was it a lawn mower?
I've either owned or driven R26, R26.R, 250 and 265. the R26.R is the only one that is track focused and would win this contest easily. It is completely different driving experience to the others. None of the other models are made for the track. Power is not as key as lightness and handling balance when on the track.
The RS250 in particular felt like a brick on wheels after driving the R26.R (trust me).

So you say nothing special.. cause the r26r uses semi slick and is 120kg lighter than a normal 225. A megane 250 and 265 are great and are one off the best hot hatches ever made.

For all the people crying that they should have brought the FD2 civic, They already battled the FD2 against the Scirocco R at Tsukuba. The civic got passed on lap 1 (5th corner) and never saw VW again. In time attack VW was over 1 second faster, Even Evo X and Impreza STI couldn't pass Scirocco. Its a very fast car.
How can the Scirocco not be passed by an Evo with 300 bhp? Sounds unlikely.
Hi, I searched and you can actually see the clip of the race on TH-cam (in potato quality unfortunately) Just search Best Motoring May 2010 Scirocco R. As to how? its known in the VW community that their engines are underrated from the factory, ive seen a stock rocco R dyno 239 bhp at the wheels,

They would have bought the FD2R if they could but it was only sold in Japan and Malaysia but the FN2R was sold in many other countries and much more were made of the FN2R. I'd love to own a FD2R in Australia but we are not allowed to import one as it has the same chassis code as our FD2 civic sport sold locally.
Scirocco looks awesome front and side, terribly from the back, and is not very interesting inside, pretty boring like all other golfs.
Considering buying a hot hatch, and Golfs & Scirocco are on the very end of the list.
Even Giulietta QV is higher.. no matter the 0-100 acceleration or whatever.. looks better in and outside..

@@mikeygti8930 Absolutely, but I’m just going by power wise. The Meganè is a bit of a step above and the only comparable one would be the Clio. The newer Type R’s are a different story though obviously.

@@weed46 The Meganè RS has a torsion beam as well and nobody complains about that? I’ve never understood why all the criticism was put onto the Civic when some of the best handling hot hatches use torsion beam rear suspension as well.
@@GazMonty I get what you're saying, but the Megane RS MKII wasn't really the standard of handling, and you can tell how much it improved in the MKIII version...
The civic got some hate in particular because the previous CTR's, even the EG6 had independent rear suspension and handled better. The FK8 CTR returned the IRS, and look how it's becoming the benchmark yet again.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, a well setup torsion beam can handle well, but it will never be as good as a good IRS.
Simply put, the CTR on this video would have been a much better car if it had IRS.

A FWD NA Vs AWD Turbo and FWD Turbo, test them against a Turbo K24 EK or EG civic and see what happens
Scirocco is not using those powerful brakes. That's makes the difference.

But a Scirocco R is around 260 bhp? Renault similar power? both have alot more torque also, maybe turbo charged? .....So fn2 is around 60 bhp less, much less power and torque than both? - A bit of a silly line up lol. Maybe the Fn2 Mugen would have been a better choice - even still the Mugen would have still been well down on torque.......the Renault and VW very similar spec.
@@Ggungaginga The K20 obsolete? Let's not forget 'turbos' are add ons. They are not turbo engines - they are engines with turbos. The K20 is a fantastic unit. As for the factory spec of Fn2 type r? Let's not forget it's over 12 years old now. So to compare to today's market is rather like this video......

Why did the Scirocco driver stop the acceleration and let the Megane overtake? No driving experience. The Scirocco is much faster when you are a good driver and know what you do. And 200hp against 250 and 272 is a joke.
Scirocco is a shopping car. Look at the esp light popping on. Megane rs best hothatch of all time. Go to a track day you will see a lot of renault sport.

Renault's and VW's engine won't last very long, Honda will last until 400000km

Its up to the drivers skills. If DK drove the Type R.. I think he will win.
Not really. Aside of the other drivers being pretty good actually (they can probably lap you and I common people several times over in a track), the time difference is pretty far for the Civic (remember, they're using the FN2 Civic here) to come close to the Megane or Scirocco when looking at the attack lap times, that even with DK at the wheel it wouldn't suffice.
Maybe it'd be a fairer battle at the time if they used the FD2 Civic which is better than the FN2 by a margin, but it'll be a hard fought battle still, because the Megane of that time is pretty fast too in its own right (and still true for the newer versions today - they go toe-to-toe with the Civic still in track times up until just recently when the newest Civic R hits), while the Scirocco of that time has transmission advantage. Add to that, both Scirocco and Megane has a sizable power advantage. A manual (if possible) Clio RS and Golf GTI would've matched the Civic R FN2 better.

FN2 sucks in particulary! but I love NA engines and specially Hondas despite Im fun of Vw gotta recognise that Honda manage to keep up against same displacement turbocharged cars wich is remarkable and I love that!!! specially today when no ones seems to like the challeging thing of getting big power out of non forced induction engines

+troublezzzz No it wouldn't. The JDM EP3 would have fared better, but the Megane RS and Scirocco R are beasts. The Megane RS in particular was the quickest FF car of its time, before the latest Civic Type R. I say this as a big Honda fan as well. The FN2 is a great car, just not built with class-leading performance in mind, it's more Honda's version of a Golf GTI...an all-rounder that has fun driving characteristics and still makes for a good daily driver.
+Judo JoNny I have seen many races EP3 vs megan RS and the megan RS has been eating that Vtec smoke every time. Im well aware this is track race which is way different from drag race and i know 100% that the ep3 would destroy that megan on track! its facts!!
+Judo JoNny one more thing! JDM or not europe type R will leave the megan RS behind bro. An NA engine vs turbo cars and the NA engine has proven to smoke most of those turbo 2.0L! JDM has 25 more BHP than your normal type R but its easy to mod an ep3 for 25 more bhp
+troublezzzz Show me these many races? If we're talking stock Vs stock (no modifications), there is no way an EP3 beats a Megane RS265 with equally skilled driver's. A UKDM EP3 would fare no better than the FN2 in the video did, and the JDM version would still lose...albeit not by as large a margin, due to having 215bhp, thicker anti-roll bars + strut bars & a Helical LSD. I am aware that Honda makes N/A cars that perform very well for what they are, and they can beat or match "some" turbo cars of similar displacement, however the Megane RS265 is not one of them. Look up the Nurburgring lap times for both as evidence. That being said I'd wager that the EP3 is just as fun to drive, and more rewarding too...as N/A engined cars often are. The K20A is also a motor that responds very well to modifications, but no point comparing cars when mods are involved.
Now the latest FK2 Civic Type R would lay the smackdown on that RS265, but that is a different story...
Appreciate the link, and it is impressive that the EP3 won...however I was under the impression we were talking about factory standard cars? When you bring modified cars into it, anything can happen really. I never said an EP3 can't beat a turbo-charged car, just that stock for stock the Megane RS265 is quicker, and was the benchmark for an FF performance car for a while.

I saw few comments bashing Scirocco’s reliability but from my experience and other owners of this model, it seems very reliable(excluding the awful 1.4l engine)
