When you will sing with the "m, n", french "o" as in a word like "ton", then the sound will be always nasal, but in other cases it's possible to get rid of it. What usually helps is imagining as if you were trying to pull the sound back from your nasal cavity and direct it above it, as if you want to avoid it. Sometimes raising the soft palate helps, but then it's easier to lose twang and distortion. I will ask about more solutions during the CVT course tomorrow.
Awesome video! Do you have a video on how to “isolate” the false chords? When doing false chord screams I have trouble stopping myself from using a ton of air
Yes! Here are exercises that work best for my students: th-cam.com/video/fBH8DzEuZQs/w-d-xo.html When it comes to reducing the amount of air in false chord, it's also good to practice with the glottal compression: th-cam.com/video/uXLb0M916NY/w-d-xo.html Practicing smooth transitions between kargyraa or distortion and false chord can also help: th-cam.com/video/rc4kvH3Cchs/w-d-xo.html (at the end of video there's another exercise inspired by Alex Terrible) th-cam.com/video/rs6yuCdKjmg/w-d-xo.html Let me know how those things worked, once you try it!
Hi! That's a very interesting question :D My sound is closer to kargyraa because I don't keep my larynx very high and I don't use too high pitch. During today's classes in Complete Vocal Technique, I've learned that when I keep my larynx higher, I have more twang and then my sound isn't that close to kargyraa, especially when I sing C4 and higher, so in my case what you have written makes sense :)
For me it isn't, but it works really good for my students, especially beginners or those singers who push too much breath and feel discomfort while singing with distortion.
Both coordinate the work of true and false vocal folds, so the elements are almost the same (kargyraa has just more overtones and makes the voice sound an octave lower, the amount of "clean voice" in the sound is smaller, and there's more distortion), so they are pretty close to each other. It's also easier to sing with distortion on the higher notes than with kargyraa, which prefers to stay lower.
Hi Sibila! Which kind of screaming Is performing Enslaved's singer in the album "Eld"? to me it sounds like a mix of fry and high false folds and the thing you are explaining here
Hello! I think that you are right :D There's also some extra, clicky noise which reminds me of the arytenoidal rattle, which is a very common thing in the black metal vocals, and it's quite often combined with false chord or fry scream. Here's a live show: th-cam.com/video/IpfOwIWEWcM/w-d-xo.html Sometimes he has more fry, but there are parts where he just combines the false chord with the rattle.
@@sibilaextremevocal hi! thank you so much sibila. Do u have a tutorial on how to perform/train arytenoidal rattle? Or is the same thing you are explaining in this video?

Hi sibila! I can make it work below G4 but it seems as if i had to switch to a different thing before it becomes overcompressed. I'm looking for a round sound, something like THIS th-cam.com/video/ZC1UJCGuGf8/w-d-xo.html kind of distortion , where it's above the bridge and it still has a full / round sound, but it doesn't sound as an overcompressed distortion, more like a uvular thing maybe? What's it called like ?
Hello, it sounds like distortion with a bit of arytenoidal rattle. Distortion from the false vocal folds sounds more robotic, rattle from the arytenoids has a more rolling, darker and kind of more rounded sound. He seems to have both of them at the same time, which is quite popular in rock and grunge. It sounds well-supported but also kind of laid back, not as if he was putting a lot of effort in it, but enough to sound firm and strong. There's also a bit of twang. Maybe his soft palate is also slightly raised or at least not lowered. He sounds as if he was opening his mouth pretty wide too, especially in the most aggressive parts, where the camera is showing the crowd. He is probably using the bite (smile and exposed upper teeth). His vocals sound really cool and quite intense for this type of music :D
One of the best tutorials on actually explaining what twang distortion is. I always confused twang with nasality and it would hurt my soft palate
Any tips on breaking the nasal habit ? I can get my regular voice out of nasal but as soon as I twang it be comes so Nasal

Keeping the larynx higher can also help to have more twang
Great stuff brother! Amazing source of info! Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you!

Awesome tutorial, il mentore :D
This is a very good explanation and still listening to it becomes annoying very fast!
Really helpful video, thank you so much
I'm glad it's helpful, thanks for the comment!
Perfect timing, this is the tutorial I've been looking for a while. Cheers 🍻
Awesome!
Hey Sibila, would you say that the exercise is like blending twang with kargyraa? and work in keep the pitch/sensation?
Awesome video as always, btw.

THE MOST EASY WAY TO ME
For me it isn't, but it works really good for my students, especially beginners or those singers who push too much breath and feel discomfort while singing with distortion.
2:41 my alarm be like
Jk, love your videos, great job!
If I had such an alarm, I would wake up traumatized every day :D
Thanks!
Would this be considered the same as Kargyaa throat singing? It sounds quite similar to me
