This is a awesome towing test. Love to see the 3.0L duramax, new hurricane and Hybrid Tundra do this test.
I like this towing test. I really want to see you test the 1500 3.0L Duramax.
If ford added the larger axle casting with more fluid capacity, the more arched springs, the 36 gallon tank and the tire and wheel package that collectively help make the HDPP offered up through 2023, the Powerboost would be the perfect light duty 3/4 ton or more appropriately the best heavy half ton on the market.
F150 are the best trucks on the road. 2.7, 3.5, 5.0 all awesome mileage and power
I have the same powerboost truck. It handled ok until I put a RAS suspension kit on the back and 22in wheels and tires with a higher load rating and it does really good now.
Actually impressed it didn’t overheat. Got to 243 then stabilized, which is pretty good considering the load and climbing @60+ the whole stretch. Also the numeric temps only show above 225 unless you enable them to be on all the time with FORScan.
Since you’re in Northern Utah you should look at Trappers Loop from Mountain green to Huntsville consistent 7-8% both sides running 60 for 5 miles each way. I’ve been towing over that hill for a couple decades now between 5K to 20K lbs it does work with any load. Just another option for towing tests reviews.
Regenerative braking is dependant on the strength of the motor magnets and the number and gauge of windings and the load. The motor in the transmission in the powerboost is quite small/compact and for its purpose is a great size. They can’t increase regenerative braking without going to a bigger motor.
Good video, loved loved the comment. Stay in your blue state!
Great video!! Love seeing Parleys canyon! Not sure why a heavy half ton is needed, just buy a 3/4 ton.
The best half ton on the market buddy!
I drove the Expedition with the 3.5 ecoboost on the backroads outside of Tennessee. Even after manually shifting it to 5000 rpm, it didn't slow down. Those ecoboosts are horrible with engine braking
All small displacement engines are. Rams new hurricane is going to be worse yet
Ya, engine braking on small litre engines isn’t really a thing. It can be done, but I don’t know why anyone would expect anything magical there.
I think it’s important to stabilize the vehicle at the speed you want going down, then let it manage it. Small litre engines don’t produce enough drag when overrunning to manage grade braking on their own. But if you hit the hill going 15 over, you cannot really judge a trans/engine on that basis alone. The test shouldn’t be, can it get the speed down, it should be, can it maintain the speed I set. 15mph is a lot of inertia to arrest down a 6% grade, you need to manage it in HD trucks too buy not topping a grade and then leaning hard on the brakes or exhaust brakes/engine drag to manage your mistake…know what I’m saying? That said the HD will do it, but it’s still a lot to ask if you were towing with an HD truck to the same relative limit of its capability as you are with the half ton.
I really hope you get your hands on a 20+ Titan XD with a 9 speed.
You can’t consider this a heavy half ton, in my opinion, since the payload and axle capacities aren’t there. I’m excited to see the upcoming RAM charger which appears to have 8 bolt hubs so I’m hoping it will be the perfect heavy half ton with some electric range
Would be interesting to compare the MPG towing that same trailer with the 3.0 LZ0 and how well it would hold its speed up that same grade.
i bet the non hybrid 3.5 eco would do better on that climb in power and mpg
You need to do this test with the 5.0 coyote v8!
Do you tink the eco boost is better for towing over the powerboost?
Get a 21-23 f150 3.5 max tow with heavy duty payload package that's what you are looking for in a half ton and test that truck I got one myself 2023 model payload on mine is 2600 lbs for a half ton
Smoked the 6.6 Chevy you did😂
Best to go to a Ford F250/F350 when towing that type of weight
243 on coolant...DAMN
I had a 21 power boost, I liked it but it was a lemon 🍋, in a Godzilla
You should do a review on your tonneau cover. Is that the Retrax pro?
how much did the trailer weigh? I am looking for a truck to tow my 9'000 lb travel trailer and i'm guessing i will need a 3/4 ton for it. it just sucks to have to buy the bigger truck to tow 4-5 times a year. but want a truck that will do it nicely since i live in western md. righ in the hills on rt 68
You live in Maryland you say can you have handguns up there I wanna travel there but was looking up laws confuses me Missouri we can do as we please
@@KeithWilliams-uw9ym you have to have a md wear and carry permit to carry in md. I have one and also have one in Pa since most states around here recognize that one as well. That way I’m covered for about every state I travel to except the crazy New Jersey and New York
If you can avoid MD when it comes to guns then do so. Gun and ammo must both be locked in separate compartments. They don’t recognize most other states CC. They are a 10 round state also…. I live 45 minutes from the Maryland border and I always try to avoid it if possible. It’s a beautiful state but a couple of big cities have the gun laws very limited.
Seems kinda of a relevant thing in a tow test eh
is the towing MPG competitive/typical with other half-tons?
Didn’t catch this in the video, what octane were you running? (Recommended is 91+ when towing)
It looks like you are still not using a WDH on an overloaded 1/2 ton!
This shows the importance of how much power the engine has without the electric components. Once that tiny 1.5kw battery is consumed, you have no more electrical assistance.
Same problem with that tiny battery when going downhill. Once you quickly recharge that tiny battery, there's no more electric magnetic forces to slow you down.
You should of shown the battery screen when going up as you did when you went down. This way we can see how the electrical parts are working.
Turning is so bad on the f150
Guy was going 80mph down a 6% grade with a heavy ass trailer in a half ton….
Regen + modern half ton brakes + trailer wind frontage....all helps. But yet 60-70mph would have been more appropriate
@@AllAmericanAutomotive I have the same exact truck in the shorter wheel base. At least I know the truck can do it at that speed, but I still don’t trust the brakes like that
Get more views that way😂
