Super Shorty Pearl Marching Snare with Mylar Top Head (RED Remo Colortone) 13x4.5ish OUTSIDE

- *Top Head:* 13" RED Remo Colortone Crimplock (typically a quad head) with ~1.5" of tone foam on the underside of the head (to reduce overtones)
*Bottom Head:* 13" Evans MS3 (wanted to use a non-kevlar head for the bottom, but wanted something that would reduce overtones a bit, and the MS3 comes with an internal ring for that exact purpose)
*Sticks:* Vic Firth John Mapes signature sticks (with white stick tape)
That first shot rang so good. I'm sure the neighbors love it. Ha!
😳🤣👍
I got kicked out of local hippie drum circle for bringing a Mapex Quantum lmao 🤣 sounded so good off the community center walls tho.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
THAT SOUNDS AMAZING FOR A MYLAR
RIGHT?!?! 🤣👍
One of the best snare sounds on the internet right here. I'm gonna invest in these heads thanks for sharing those tips!
Thanks! I really want to hear a full line playing with this kind of tuning. 🤔👍
@@mcgrud It would be a glorious sound
@@jeromieb038 Right?! 😂👍
It sounds like kevlar while retaining the positive qualities of mylar 🔥🔥🔥
@@iLikePlanes16 Honestly, these videos (and my playing) doesn't do it justice. I really think this type of head/tuning should be more popular amongst smaller HS bands.
Them rim shots are beautiful
I concur. 😎🤙
Love it, Rob Carson
Rob Carson?!?! 🐐😎🤙
That fire bro🔥🔥💯
Hope your neighbors like it , lol😆
Thanks! 🤣🙏
Do more marching snare content please!! Although I don’t know how well the drum would like the cold
It would be interesting to see how much the drum goes up in pitch in the freezing cold air... 🤔😳😂
@@mcgrud also, what do you do? I don’t know too many people who own their own professional level marching drums, so do you teach? Did you march dci and keep it up as a hobby? Do you march DCA? Im just curious, you don’t have to anwser.
@@Thebig1776L Without going through my whole bio, here's the highlights:
DCI = Yes
WGI = Yes
Writing/Teaching = Yes
Hobby = Yes
DCA = Nothing yet, maybe in the future
😎🤙
@@mcgrud that’s sick! I just do marching band and DCA at the moment, I’m not old enough for DCI
@@Thebig1776L Niiiiice 😎🤙
I’d love to use this snare as the main snare for a death metal album
That'd be dope. 😎🤘🥁🔥
What is this snare break???? So freaking cool!!!!
Thank you so much! Honestly, I didn't plan anything ahead. I just took the drum outside, hit record, and tried to play something that utilized all areas of the drum with lots of dynamic range. I just made everything up on the spot. 🤣😎🤙
I will gladly pay the shipping if you will box this drum up and send it to my home.
🤣👍
I bet your neighbors love you
They do. I'm delightful. 😂👍
Awesome!
Thanks! 😁👍
@@mcgrud Absolutely! 💚
Sup loopy grandma!
@@_Methhead_ Fancy seeing you here!
waiting for another video of using colortone heads🙃
Already purchased one! 😉👍
THOSE SHOTS
Right?! 😂
WoW 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
😁🤙
Did you mod a regular 13" Pearl for this?
Yup! I found a guy that does custom drums and told him I wanted a 13" cut down as much as possible. He did not disappoint. 😎🤙
Where can I learn how to play like this
@@blackbirdxx727 Find someone in your area that marched DCI and/or WGI and take some private lessons. 😎🤙
A very ‘80s sound
Classic. 😎🤙
For the algorithm ✊

thats crazy that u dont get any of the ring from a normal mylar head
I am obviously a tuning legend. 😎
... Also, there is ~1.5" of tone foam on the under side of the top head (to reduce overtones) and the bottom head is an Evans MS3 which has an internal ring (again, to reduce overtones). So, it could be because of those things. But mostly because I am a total legend with a T key. 😂
@@mcgrud yeah i kinda assumed u had some sort of muffling it sounds great
Thanks! Joking aside, I put a lot of thought into this head/tuning scheme. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. 😊
@@mcgrud its awesome that you got it that clean its got a good amount of ring but its not obnoxious
Agreed. I really want to hear 2 or more drums with this head/tuning out in a field now! 😎🤘
how much did it cost and what places can get the drum converted for marching
I *think* I paid ~$750, which included the used drum, getting it cut down to a super shorty, getting it wrapped, and getting it shipped across the country. I bought it from Jeff Beardeaux. Found his custom work on Facebook and just sent him a message asking if he could build this drum for me. Super nice guy and he does GREAT work. 10/10 would recommend. 😎🤙
Hello! what vic firth sticks are those?
*Sticks:* Vic Firth John Mapes signature sticks _(with white stick tape)_
Bet your neighbors love you 😂😂
They do. I'm amazing for many reasons. 😏😂

@@mcgrud thank you
Where did you march?
Lots of different places (and lots of different instruments). Aged out at Rhythm X.
@@mcgrud how long ago did you age out?

@@mcgrud insane snareline
Seriously, that whole ensemble was insane. I've never been surrounded by so much talent all at once. Great year.
What carrier are u using?
It's an old Pearl Randall May carrier. I don't think they make this exact model anymore.
you missed the hi momn
Truly the biggest shame I've ever brought on my family. 😂😭
your poor neighbors
They love the tuning so much that they send me gifts whenever I drum outside. 😎🤙
respectable tbh@@mcgrud
@@BruddhaGrombyMusic I'll take what I can get. 😂

I REGRET NOTHING!! 🤣
