Let's talk about how to test for insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone that prevents sugar from building up too high in your blood. For example, if you consume too many carbs and your blood sugar rises too high, insulin comes in and removes it to help keep the blood sugars at a constant level.
Normally, sugar is used as fuel in the body. But, with insulin resistance, sugar is converted into fat. One of the purposes of insulin is to prevent fat-burning and encourage fat-storing.
Insulin resistance is a situation where insulin is not working, so the body has to compensate by making more and more insulin. With insulin resistance, carbohydrates are not burned easily. Instead, they are shunted to the liver, where they start to develop fat within the liver.
    Indications of insulin resistance:
    • High triglycerides in your blood
    • High LDL (specifically small-dense particles)
    • Carb intolerance
    Symptoms of carb intolerance:
    • Weight gain
    • Blood sugar levels are too high or too low
    • Bloating after eating carbs
    • Fatigue after eating carbs
    • Craving carbs
    • You're hungry all of the time
    • Excessive urination at night
    • Moodiness
    • Irritability
    • Loss of focus, concentration, and memory
There is also a really good test that you can do to determine if you have insulin resistance. Many doctors are not familiar with this test, but it is called HOMA-IR. This is the best objective test to measure insulin resistance.
This test looks at the relationship between two things, your fasting blood glucose and your fasting blood insulin. This test tells you to what degree you have insulin resistance.
To help get rid of insulin resistance, get on the ketogenic diet and do intermittent fasting.

It is s study over ten years. Researchers also find out that there is a certain group of people their insulin is not sufficient when they are young, but later age will developed to IR at end it beta cell will die quickly than normal people. I will say it is true! I knew it, and it confuses me long time. The research said it could be the problem about calcium and potassium metabolism problems. I’ve been on healthy keto for 12 days. The first 5 days I felt awesome. Then I felt super weak and fatigued. I started taking and eating anything with potassium. I rested the entire day. I felt somewhat better by the next day. I’m not sleeping and now I feel a burning or heartburn in my chest. I don’t have the energy I did in those first 5 days. I lost 7 pounds the first week and I have gained 1 pound since and I’m stuck. Oh and I’ve just started having to get up to pee two times in the night.

E Wood: Yep.Insomnia, having to pee a lot and constipation are all common side effects of the Keto/IF lifestyle.
I've been on this regime for a year now and like many, many other people whose comments I've read over the past year,I've been dealing with these same issues and trying to find solutions.
It's not just you,it affects a lot of people the same way.
I even had a sleep study done because I thought I had sleep apnea, but after completing the study,I found out I don't.
And I use senna herbal tea at night to combat the occasional constipation,as well as using a non herbal laxative now and again.

Hi Dr. Eric Berg. I have been watching your videos about diabetes and Insulin resistance for a while now to learn more about it. My mom has diabetes, she is 68 and has had it for many years, she is very petite, not overweight at all. How come she has that if the insulin was never stored as fat first? Also my cousin is only 30 years old,he is very fit,and his diabetes is a lot higher than my mom's even is. After just eating a small cinnamon roll, the blood sugar test doesn't show the number anymore,it gets so high that it only shows "high" he has been on a healthy diet for almost a year, barely ever eats rise, sweets, and any carbs and sweets you can think of. How come that he still has this problem?

I test how strong my resistance is by having a high ketone count in my blood, then I eat some bread and look how long it takes while not eating (fasting or keto diet) my ketones to come back. If it's a long time it meant I had high levels of insulin in my blood for the whole time. Ketones can't get produced when we have a lot insulin in our blood.

    • @lKILLA
      @lKILLA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I was just diagnosed as pre-diabetic. 144 glucose 52 sugar. I'm a heavy dr pepper drinker, never drink water or alcohol. Southern, so I admit there's a lot of fried foods. I immediately switched to dr pepper zero and am watching what I eat. I don't know what I'm doing. Dr's don't really tell you much. So I'm on a search for what will work. I have noticed cutting sugar has made me feel really good. I am drinking tons of green tea and water. My question is, how do I do intermittent fasting? How do you switch your family to keto without them complaining?
