- Santa's cute & all but we're not just about that glam life here. For all you gore lovers, here is a Krampus / Anti Claus tutorial going over both the FX makeup involved and the costuming. I'm not much of a costume maker so that part is done with pretty common materials and basic instructions. Hope you guys have a super lovely holiday season & happy new year!

In Austria we call our Krampus „Percht“
The traditional Austrian Krampus mask is carved out of wood. For the horns on the mask they use real animal horns, and the complete body outfit is sheepskin.
The most important items of a Krampus-Costume are the giant bells on their back.
When the Krampus is running around, the bells chime. Its a rite to expel the demons of winter. At the beginning of December there are many parades at villages and cities to celebrate this rite, and also to say goodbye to the year that has passed.
The whole outfit is extremely heavy. The mask (depending how big it is) weights between 5 and 15kg, the horns weigh up to 5kg, the bells are from 2kg upwards (many krampus wear 2 bells or more) and the costume isn’t light as well.
Just wanted to bring up some knowledge the real Krampus.

I was about to comment the same thing but you put it perfectly into words. During the intro I was missing the bells the whole time although the sound of these bells actually freak me out as hell. I have the feeling I'm still kind of traumatized from the Krampus parades me and my family went to when I was a kid. 😅
