As a person living in Salem, there’s literally no where she could go in Salem to film that isn’t flooded with a bunch of loud obnoxious tourists who just come through for October and annoy the people living there.
AlecIsNostalgic is that how the people of Salem really feel? I went there two years ago, my sister bought me a trip for my bday. We went in October, but we legit love the history of the town. We both have daughters who were born on Halloween, so we love this time of year!! P.S. her son’s name is Alec🤙🏻
I go to school at Salem state University! I personally came here cus I liked the history and thought the area was really fun and I love Halloween and spooky stuff in general. The town is just very commercialized. It’s a little annoying sort of how no one pays it any attention until it’s October tbh. I know a lot of people who grew up here and HATE halloween cus of all the tourists who flood in and it becomes very gaudy. I think it’s great that people want to celebrate Halloween and all the festivities cus it’s my favorite time of year, but I get where the locals are coming from too in a sense. It’s almost to them like a slap in the face sometimes since a lot of the witch trials didn’t even occur in Salem directly. It was mostly in all the surrounding towns and Salem became the meeting place for the council and the center of all the chaos so now it’s what people associate with the hysteria. If you think of it, it’s really sad how those people were misunderstood and then stoned, burned, etc. and now we all gather round for one month of the year to put a mask on and party. Sometimes that’s how the people take it, but I personally am half and half since it’s almost like commemorating their legacy and celebrating/not forgetting their history. It’s complicated.

AlecIsNostalgic I gotcha. My niece was thinking about going to college there. I told her she has to take me with her😂 we live in Texas, so Salem was a nice change in scenery. It’s beautiful there!! I can imagine all the tourists can get annoying, luckily my sister and I were the ones who wanted to be there for the history of the area, not the Halloween parties and such. I did an essay in high school over the trials and had wanted to go since then ( which was a long ass time ago lol). You could say that it was legit a dream come true when I actually got to go! I would LOVE to move there one of these days, but I don’t think I could get the husband to leave Texas (womp, womp).

You are right, witches throughout history are just people with a different religion who are misunderstood. All the witches I know well are very kind, just, caring individuals.

if you think the witches nowadays are the same as how they were back before modernization/technology/manipulation/alterations you’re incorrect. Like you said they could be compared to other religions; Paganism, Christianity, Judaism, etc. whatever you’d like to mention has all been tampered with and altered over the years.
