I was in the military for 20 yrs and Ive never seen, heard of, or participated in exercises in any major city or public domain. So to see this in San Antonio makes me ask, why? Why now? Just seems a little wierd and off. Given todays environment its easy to be a little more questioning of things like this. When I say public I mean domesticly.
Where were you station to never have exercised near major metros? Kansas national guard? They do training near metro all the time. Virginia Beach, Reno, San Diego, Cheyenne, Colorado Springs, and many more metros see exercises all the time. Now the fact that they are working with gunfire sounds/blanks and making low passes over downtown areas, man that’s news to me in the last 10-15 years. We gotta be running drills as a nation with the way things are looking.
I've lived near F.T.Hood for 25 years. We hear them training all the time. We are used to it. That's normal here. What worries me is that this type of training isn't normal in a place like San Antonio. Things are not looking very good folks. This could only mean that the military is preparing for the worst.
I can completly understand that. Here in the greater Fredericksburg Area of Virgina (the Quantico Marine base isnt that far from where i reside) there have been heavy helo activity as well. Funny thing is i do not recall this much type, or thick of activity this time last year. Kind of odd.
I’m thinking it’s just a show of force on the local population. Good luck to them I guess. I served in Iraq and you can’t compete with a well armed local population. Despite what people say with no experience in combat; a well armed local population with rifles can keep a modern army at bay. They outlasted us in Iraq and we left after accomplishing very little. Elite forces need new locations for training all the time. this is normal. they move all over the country constantly.. they were here for 2 night last year at an old strip club being torn down. flew right over my house at about 40 feet. they fired for me laughing with a thumbs up. I enjoyed it

We are training for war, every military base has being doing things like this. Last week in my state a few USMC units were running on the streets and alleyways in some of the suburbs in full battle rattle practicing urban combat. The Air Force F-35s have been flying a lot lower with their after burners on. My reserve unit has been doing more driving training downtown vs backroads. 21st century war in Europe and the pacific will be fought on the streets, city’s, town and neighborhoods. Not the jungles and the fields.

Remember this area has SEVERAL military bases and nuclear power plants nearby. Our nation has been threatened by ALL our enemies. The border is open and their is a major war happening even if the media is not covering it as extensively as it was. Know weather patterns and how prevailing winds work in your area. Monitor a hand crank emergency radio. Communications are vital. Know how to use alternative means of communication. Russia has increased its aggression and has made nuclear threats. Learn how to shelter in place. Or where to go if you need to evacuate. Preparing for winter storms, hurricanes and flooding is nothing new to Texans. Preparing for an invasion from the south, nuclear attack, nuclear fall out are an entirely different animal.

There's been lots of military activity in my area (Colorado) the last few weeks and apparently a bunch of retired military are being called back to service and sent to Germany for whatever reason. My friend who happened to be in Germany last week called me and said there's US troops everywhere out there. What are they getting ready for?

This isnt just any training, this is JSOC training. I.e. our most elite special operations guys. They do this training all over the country, most notably in downtown LA Staples Center back in 2017.

I live in WA and was stationed at Ft Lewis. HEAVY military presence in this state and they're always training. Been happening for decades but now people act like it's never happened. That mayor is full of crap. There was plenty of notice. These exercises aren't planned overnight. State and local government is always notified WELL in advance of something like that because we have to get approval from them anyway.
Try living in Schertz in the fight zone for RAFB. It’s crazy loud when a plane flies over. If you happen to be on the phone you have to wait for the plane to fly past then you can continue your conversation. Everyone deals with it. San Antonio is officially “Military City USA”. Grew up in the ear shot of (War games) training exercises here in the NW. It sounded and felt like real war as my father who fought in WW2, Korea, and the recognized beginning of Vietnam. He would do a lot to try an reassure us WE were in NO DANGER. After 911, the only aircraft we ever saw or heard were Military. Folks don't assume with the state of the government that you can trust any human being, unless they live with you, have the same mindset, and are willing to Die for their Faith and our Original Documents.

It's been happening, there's footage of one in Chicago but they rounded up actual people or civilians (men, women, children) and put them in camps. It was scary, they had weapons and put them into fences like cattle. No notice tho.
I remember reading an comment about how the military has to keep making vehicles and so on in order to have people with experience to have the ability to build in case of war time. In this case, it is to keep everyone in the military active and prepared instead of lazy as in some countries may happen. (Replacement for mass combat experience)

They did much more extreme training drills In downtown Phoenix where men actually repelled down and choppers landed sweeping through the streets. We are in for it now
I live in the south of Louisiana,,my home just happens to be in a Military FLY zone.Its Amazing when I can wave to the soldiers hanging their feet out of a heli.I could not be more Happy.I get my own Airshow often.
I live in Chesapeake, VA (part of the Hampton Roads area as well as Norfolk and Virginia Beach). See a lot of Navy fighter jets and helicopters on the daily. Always amazing to see the naval aviators hard at work. Good stuff

Why are not conducting training at Fort Bragg? They have lots of land to practice on. How was the mayor not informed that this was going to be happening? Who signed off on this? Who paid for this? It wasn't done out of the goodness of San Antonio's heart. When is it okay for the US army to be practicing in a city? Well I mean with what’s going on in Europe and in Asia they should be training for more realistic modern urban combat. Russia is getting torn up in Ukraine in the urban fighting and China trying to invade Taiwan I’m sure they’ll have the same issues. So this training would be excellent if they have to do something in the near future
I grew up about 5 minutes away from Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress in Chesapeake. My house was conveniently positioned directly behind the jet engines of any plane trying to line up with the runway and land there. If you were outside when one of the F/A-18 Super Hornets was about to land, believe me it was deafening. It was cool seeing them do touch and go's though. Worth it

I couldn't see the actual airstrip from my house but the jets would fly directly over my neighborhood at maybe 1000ft or less while making their approach to land. Even inside the house it was loud as all hell and the airstrip was like 2ish miles away
Training in cities and neighborhoods I can imagine is important. When war happens people don't attack places out in the middle of nowhere, they go for the larger populated cities. This type of training is needed. To know how to fight, navigate, maneuver and use your skills in populated areas. It's useful training. It can also help you desensitize a bit with the loud sounds. It's best that we be prepared more than ever now. Although I do understand the inconvenience with trying to get some sleep.

Those are 160th SOAR helicopters. They are Special Forces of Pilots. They are more than likely carrying Special Operations soldiers. Army Rangers most likely.
Its crazy, just this past month they started flying UH-60 blackhawks low over my town (theres one actually passing now as im writing this), also now everyday theres at least 2 or 3 F18S that pass at around 7-8kft. Its insane, the only time we ever saw the military mobilize over our town was when they would attend the airshow, other than for those occasions, you’d never see a fighter jet or helicopter multiple times in one day.

So 3 or 4 nights ago here in North Seattle I could hear this deafening chopper sound outside, when I went outside I saw 2 apache helicopters fully loaded. I've never seen anything like it.

I can understand Albuquerque! Back in 2017. I was there briefly. Locals told me about shootings in town back then. The problem with many protests is they can often turn violent or those who want violence will take advantage of a protest to purposefully create trouble making the protestors look like it's them. We live in dangerous times as well so many angry people everywhere.

@@johnalarcon5006 well since it was the Army's CAG and 160th SOAR as well as the Air Forces 24th STS, Id imagine they are doing the same training they did in California a few years ago as well as in Miami some time ago, they're probably just training for urban combat, its a few Tier 1 Special Mission Units doing this training. These units need to train, and for them to run the same shoot house training day in and day out every day for years is not only redundant but also wasteful, this way they get real world training in an austere environment they've never operated in before. There is nothing wrong with this.
Preparing for any any kind scenario either nature wraith ,emergency and or even war, people have must experience in order to prepared them self also it will give them advantage as knowledge is tool for survival when that day of disaster comes.

They did night training and extractions via copters in New Orleans a few years back. These trainings are nothing new, well maybe new for you. Personally I'd like to watch this from a good vantage point if I lived in a big city.

Same thing happened in Downtown Los Angeles 3 years back. They said it was a training but I really doubt that. They raided this building, and that exact same building ended up going through demolishing later on. There was even footage of military personnel carrying these white bags into the Black Hawks.

I was in 2004 - 2015 the only thing remotely close was operation Jade Helm which was also strange.

This isnt just any training, this is JSOC training. I.e. our most elite special operations guys. They do this training all over the country, most notably in downtown LA Staples Center back in 2017.

I live in WA and was stationed at Ft Lewis. HEAVY military presence in this state and they're always training. Been happening for decades but now people act like it's never happened. That mayor is full of crap. There was plenty of notice. These exercises aren't planned overnight. State and local government is always notified WELL in advance of something like that because we have to get approval from them anyway.

Grew up in the ear shot of (War games) training exercises here in the NW. It sounded and felt like real war as my father who fought in WW2, Korea, and the recognized beginning of Vietnam. He would do a lot to try an reassure us WE were in NO DANGER. After 911, the only aircraft we ever saw or heard were Military. Folks don't assume with the state of the government that you can trust any human being, unless they live with you, have the same mindset, and are willing to Die for their Faith and our Original Documents.

It's been happening, there's footage of one in Chicago but they rounded up actual people or civilians (men, women, children) and put them in camps. It was scary, they had weapons and put them into fences like cattle. No notice tho.

I remember reading an comment about how the military has to keep making vehicles and so on in order to have people with experience to have the ability to build in case of war time. In this case, it is to keep everyone in the military active and prepared instead of lazy as in some countries may happen. (Replacement for mass combat experience)

Russia is getting torn up in Ukraine in the urban fighting and China trying to invade Taiwan I’m sure they’ll have the same issues. I grew up about 5 minutes away from Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress in Chesapeake. My house was conveniently positioned directly behind the jet engines of any plane trying to line up with the runway and land there. If you were outside when one of the F/A-18 Super Hornets was about to land, believe me it was deafening. It was cool seeing them do touch and go's though. Worth it

I couldn't see the actual airstrip from my house but the jets would fly directly over my neighborhood at maybe 1000ft or less while making their approach to land. Even inside the house it was loud as all hell and the airstrip was like 2ish miles away

Training in cities and neighborhoods I can imagine is important. When war happens people don't attack places out in the middle of nowhere, they go for the larger populated cities. This type of training is needed. To know how to fight, navigate, maneuver and use your skills in populated areas. It's useful training. It can also help you desensitize a bit with the loud sounds. It's best that we be prepared more than ever now. Although I do understand the inconvenience with trying to get some sleep.

Those are 160th SOAR helicopters. They are Special Forces of Pilots. They are more than likely carrying Special Operations soldiers. Army Rangers most likely.

Its crazy, just this past month they started flying UH-60 blackhawks low over my town (theres one actually passing now as im writing this), also now everyday theres at least 2 or 3 F18S that pass at around 7-8kft. Its insane, the only time we ever saw the military mobilize over our town was when they would attend the airshow, other than for those occasions, you’d never see a fighter jet or helicopter multiple times in one day.

So 3 or 4 nights ago here in North Seattle I could hear this deafening chopper sound outside, when I went outside I saw 2 apache helicopters fully loaded. I've never seen anything like it.

@@johnalarcon5006 well since it was the Army's CAG and 160th SOAR as well as the Air Forces 24th STS, Id imagine they are doing the same training they did in California a few years ago as well as in Miami some time ago, they're probably just training for urban combat, its a few Tier 1 Special Mission Units doing this training. These units need to train, and for them to run the same shoot house training day in and day out every day for years is not only redundant but also wasteful, this way they get real world training in an austere environment they've never operated in before. There is nothing wrong with this.

They did night training and extractions via copters in New Orleans a few years back. These trainings are nothing new, well maybe new for you. Personally I'd like to watch this from a good vantage point if I lived in a big city.

Los Angeles 3 years back. They said it was a training but I really doubt that. They raided this building, and that exact same building ended up going through demolishing later on. There was even footage of military personnel carrying these white bags into the Black Hawks.

I was born in San Antonio, back in the sixties it was the normal daily occurrence to hear sonic booms we had several active Air Force bases later 70s they stopped, but this seems nuts to me some people have PTSD this would have freaked me out what the hell in the city, WOW
