Whatever talents Sam Altman has, which I'm sure are many, being the public face and ambassador for a company is not one of them. That's not an attack or a criticism, it's just a statement of fact. Sam going on interviews and giving statements, with his natural demeanor and his voice, just doesn't work. If building public trust is critical for a company like OpenAI, he is simply not the right person for that role. No matter how much we may wish that people would focus just on the substance of what he says, the fact is that there is a lot of unspoken communication and his mannerisms that, just in a purely lizard brain sense, make people feel like he is a liar and a weasel, even if it's not true.

Nonsense, what he said was rational and clear and his arguments are sound. A statement is either true or false, charisma, "personality", the "affect" with which it is said etc. doesn't change the facts.

Never forget that Sam Altman emphatically stated that the early versions of OpenAI's models were "too dangerous to be publicly available", justifying making the company a closed service.
A few years later, public, open source models that anyone can run on their machine (such as Llama) that are orders of magnitude superior to the original OpenAI early models are widely available and used, and yet the sky isn't falling. Funny how that works.
This guy is such a weasel. He has the typical hall-monitor attitude that is prevalent amongst extremely neurotic tech know-it-alls who believe the average IQ of the public is somewhere in the low 90s.

    This is just marketing, look:
Everyone is now making fun of OpenAI because of how Google made their "12 Days of OpenAI" dramatically irrelevant. Since it's clear Google will dominate the AI industry, Sam Altman is now trying to change the narrative from "OpenAI vs Google" to "OpenAI vs xAI".
He knows xAI is weak so it'll make OpenAI looks better in front of investors, as they desperately need them to survive. A way of saying "we won't be number 1 but number 2 is still profitable."

Elon’s got a point. He gave money to what was supposedly a non-profit research project. Then instead it got turned into a multi-billion dollar business. So he probably deserves a cut.
But I’m sure they could settle on a share which is reasonable.
