Wedge "Look at the size of that thing...!" It's just enormous, it's almost intimidating. The scale of the cockpit/windscreens and the engines really are something, let alone the wingspan. It makes the largest space cruisers from my youth look dainty! Thanks for showing this off, also that shirt is adorable and I wish I had one in my size and shape.
I love this. The original is the set that really got me into Lego as a wee one. My parents got it for me for Christmas 1980. Or maybe it was Santa! I still have that one and now they’re side-by-side in our Lego room. Thanks for the review Stacey!
I have yet to see the remake 10497 Galaxy Explorer in stores. It's always sold out. There's quite an AFOL presence here. It's too bad there's no landing plate and crater plate as well as the "Galactic Porta-Potty". It's a neat little rest stop! Fantastic video!
They did a great job with the remake, it's tempting to get another to do one of the alternate builds on the Lego website. My only complaint is how fragile the edges are when you pick it up. Great vid Stacey!
I agree! I did knock pieces off the edges a few times! But I thought maybe it was just because I’m uncoordinated 😂 And I’ll have to check out those alternate builds!
@@ForBricksandGigglesthe first three of four times I picked it up I grabbed it by the middle of the crew compartment where the 2x2 trans red round bricks are and it just crumbled in my hands, after rebuilding it a few times I learned my lesson! 😂
Loved your review and really appreciated that you had the original set there for the comparison, it really enhanced and added more value to your video. I grew up with Classic Lego Space in the 80's so my nostalgia levels for this set are extremely high, so high that I had to buy two of them so I could build one of the alternative models. Looking forward to watching more of your videos in the future covering Lego Space and other themes too😊
I love the original and I still have it. I got the reissue as well but I haven't built it yet. I wonder why Lego didn't reissue the original. Hasbro and Takara did the same thing with some of their original G1 transformers, using the original molds.
In theory yes but you know that every little boy was imagining alien battles with their Lego by 1979 thanks to one particular movie a few years prior 😅
Great video, Stacey! Your excitement for these sets really comes across well! Space fan as well! I have a challenge for you. Compare the Benny spaceship 70816 to both of these!
Looking at both side by side, I'm glad they made it so big. Considering that many people who bought the remake would have had the original as children, I'm guessing LEGO wanted to avoid all of the "I remember this being so much bigger" remarks. 😅 I remember seeing the set for $75 last year too. It's really weird how only dropped the price a few months into the release year and haven't done it again.
Sorry if it's already been mentioned; The droid included with the new Galaxy Explorer is from the Classic Space set 6809 XT-5 and Droid (goes by other names too), which interestingly is from the end of Classic Space-- 1988! And, notably, had a blue spaceman, not red or white.
While I will always like the original 928 set more, I am really impressed by the remake. It looks great and its functions are great. What more could you want?
Great video and love your shirt! So fab!!!
Thank you, thank you!!! 😁😁
Excellent comparison video! 👏 SUBSCRIBED

Love the vintage builds the best!
Me too!
Steering wheel was perfect for a space ship.
I plan to get the original Galaxy Explorer! I had one as a kid and wish I still had it!

Amazing set. Perfect homage to classic space! For a good price too 👍💰💵

Back when space didn’t need an enemy to fight it was just about exploration

I love classic space, wish it wasn’t so expensive tho.
The prices are brutal 😭
Remake is 33$ at walmarts in NY grabbed one

I forgot to ask something. You've found some early August 1 sets, right? Was one of those 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile?
The brick built droid is referencing set 6809 released in 1987.
Cool! I’ll look it up!
