Yup! That's a much more cursed part of the language. Actually, count the verbal complex too: that's why the etymology of Irish verbs can be so hard to figure out. Old Irish phonology and orthography are nowhere near as cursed as the segment makes out, even if they're not simple. Even today, Irish orthography is two tonnes of phonology stuffed into the one tonne bag that is the Latin alphabet, and it still makes more sense than English orthography.

This orthography is still new but I’ve grown up with it as being no different from how French and Spanish had different ways of using Latin characters. We have very few fluent speakers but this system has been effective in helping our dying language be learnt
I was going to say, it’s a little cheap to make fun of SENĆOŦEN orthography without going into the historical reasons for why it is the way it is. It’s basically one guy trying to give his mother tongue an orthography you can type on an English typewriter, in the era before Unicode. So, underlines and strikethroughs are phonemic because English typewriters don’t come with a bunch of fancy diacritics, and everything is capitalized because “caps lock” ≈ shift lock, which made all the diacritics available without having to hit shift. Like @sproutgod1701 says, Dave Elliot’s work was a huge contributing factor to the fact that SENĆOŦEN survived long enough to undergo revitalization efforts. The ALL CAPS affect comes off as strange, but honestly, even that can be mitigated by font choice …
It does seem conlangers have a tendency to just point at things and go "its bad lol" without much objective justification... I mean traditional Welsh numerals are cool and all, but they've got nothing on Hindustani. OK, sure, Hindustani uses boring old base ten - but all the numbers from 1 to 100 are essentially irregular! And as far as I know, there's no alternative regularised system! And like 750 million people use this language on a daily basis! And somehow people don't talk about this! (Oh and by the way there's separate root words for 1.5 and 2.5, but that's actually practical so I think it can be ignored for now.)
You didn't even mention the most interesting part of the Kay(f)bop(t) Babel text: that it can also be translated to the lyrics of Never Gonna Give You Up.
I might be indicating myself as an Old, but these are things I would have suggested adding if I were on the discord: 1.Janko Gorenc. Was a time you could not post online about a conlang without Janko asking for your numbers. 1-10. 2.Virtual Verduria & The LCK. My first real toe-dip into a Linguistics based approach to language construction. 3.Babeltext. The Tower of Babel used to be THE standard translation test text. There was a collection of translations on Jeffery Henning’s Model Languages website. 4.Kēlen. 5.Teonath.
id like to add a good contender for the lower layers: focurc in 2016 a user joined a discord dedicated to ancient/endangered languages claiming to speak an undocumented germanic language turns out it was just falkirk scots with a weird romanization 😂
I have been watching these two videos for the last 90 minutes and you didn’t even mention the first (vaguely) successful conlang. Domido solresol faremi la falami lasi refasolfa re redodo. (Universal language is the means of peace and unity.)
18:39 So "but again what is a word" has become a meme much earlier than I though... 43:21 Pleasant to know someone else does this for birds))) Mine isn't as extreme tho
Ah, pity there wasn’t that one corvid language. Though i would like there to be a lot of stuff - a few more smaller youtubers, conlang tools, cool language features - one thing I would add is WALS😌
Speaking of conlangs in extreme metal, there's also the one-person black metal band Trhä. The mastermind behind the project used 4 different conlangs over the course of 10+ albums
I'm surprised you could manage to make a whole iceberg without even a mention of lojban
Or Toaq and the other loglangs which sprang from it.
More like lojBANNED from this iceberg list. \*finger guns\*

The velopharyngeal fricative is a sound people with a cleft palate use in place of phonemes they can't pronounce
I might be indicating myself as an Old, but these are things I would have suggested adding if I were on the discord:
1.Janko Gorenc.
4.Kēlen.
5.Teonath.
32:20 - The Welsh (and French) numbering system is nowhere near as cursed as that of Danish.
the creator of viesa is called whiletrue
can confirm
(this joke has been ruined by the fact that this channel is no longer called whiletrue)
That was very entertaining. I knew at least one thing per layer :D
It premieres at 2AM my time zone dammit!
Waiting to see, anyways.
1 hour is like 300 times my attention span
im watching it anyways
i've been looking at your wall with some chinese characters and suddenly realized that you look like xiaomanyc
Had to look him up, yeah I can see it hahaha
xiaoma :eyes:
3:11 I listened to the mere description of his conlang and could immediately tell that he was a psychopath. I was indeed correct about that.
id like to add a good contender for the lower layers: focurc
in 2016 a user joined a discord dedicated to ancient/endangered languages claiming to speak an undocumented germanic language
turns out it was just falkirk scots with a weird romanization 😂
Hyperpirate-Kaybop Creole? dont mind if i do...
Ah, yes, good old karrrrr(f)barRrr(t')
(and, as we all know, "(t')" is top hat pronounced with your eye patch flipped up)
May its creation be swift.
iceberg time
56:53 DO YOU SPEAK TO YOUR MOTHER WITH THAT MOUTH???
Was the first conlang when people first invented language?
For a good moment I thought Benny was just a robot made from ur voice clips.
I might be late, but never absent
26:40 please dont tell me thats possible
serendipitous convergent linguistic evolution - made the list? That's hilarious!
XD Dracheneks taking over. Is it payback for when you appeared in one of his videos? XD
Of course, hahaha
Everytime I hear your intro, I can't ignore ***the licc***
26:53 why can I hear Home Depot music in the bg lmao
I have been watching these two videos for the last 90 minutes and you didn’t even mention the first (vaguely) successful conlang. Domido solresol faremi la falami lasi refasolfa re redodo.
(Universal language is the means of peace and unity.)
HyperPirate sounds like a mix of you having a stroke and you drowning
hyperpieate sounds like the language of an alien having a stroke
18:39
So "but again what is a word" has become a meme much earlier than I though...
43:21
Pleasant to know someone else does this for birds))) Mine isn't as extreme tho
Now we're deep.
How to pronounce fŋ sound?
If made now, this iceberg would need to contain the Sprekcedis "Pidgin". Sadly it kinda died a bit after an attempted spelling reform...
Ah, pity there wasn’t that one corvid language.
Though i would like there to be a lot of stuff - a few more smaller youtubers, conlang tools, cool language features - one thing I would add is WALS😌
Someone called me?
Moon script for the blind should be here
i have a question.. what does the image of the 6th layer mean?!
Let me hear Benny's conlangs clearly 💀
hilarious that this video came out not long BEFORE billy ray waldon's conviction was overturned and he will be tried again
When’s the Ornu deep dive
15:40 this sounds like a cursing in Portuguese
10:48 the velar trill isn't included even there, and it's what i say instead of alveolar one. BWAHAHAHAHAHA
Now I want to give Xnopyt a definition. Why just because.
Hast thou met Colin Gorrie? I am subscribed to his namesake TH-cam conlanging channel. He makes interesting stuff, so go watch some of his films!
Did no one in your community know about Láadan?
Good point
hell yeah, welsh representation
Happy 420!
אַרְבַּע עֲסְרִין טָבָה

I need Crihaan in my life.
ÖXXÖ XÖÖX is also used by the experimental metal project Igorrr
Speaking of conlangs in extreme metal, there's also the one-person black metal band Trhä. The mastermind behind the project used 4 different conlangs over the course of 10+ albums
58:05 I have a new goal in life.
There is a vötgil draft
Could you put the music in the description?
The music is all mine, I was planning on releasing an "album" of my background music towards the end of this year, stay tuned👀
Welsh in general is a conlang word.
42:11 Cries in French.
The L in Milwaukee is silent >:(
I'm cry
where the fuck is conworkshop
Omg I forgot about Talossan!
I tried writing a vötgil Wikipedia article and it got killed for copyright l.
Anyone have timestamps?
I wanna go toe-to-toe with Benny tbh
Some of my conlangs are vv cursed imo tbh, and I feel like he'd be interested lol
51:30 the true toki ike
