The Andorians are your scrappy uncle who gets in bar fights, but always makes sure you get a ride home when he's too trashed to take you, and also he got you a set of throwing knives for Christmas so hell yeah. The Klingons are the fuckup kid on the same block as you who likes to shove people around to look cool, but eventually you convince them to get some martial arts classes, their teacher gets their head on straight and gives them some self confidence, and now they hang out with you and beat the holy hell out of anyone who tries to fuck with you.
_"The Andorians, they were happy to supply us the phasers"_ While limited in prevalence from TOS to VOY it is a species that was most enjoyable to see be developed in Enterprise and beyond.
Andorian phasers are pretty good. and since they are still phasers, they fit in with the reason the federation chose phasers as a primary weapon- they double as tools more easily than other energy weapons.
The Andorians 'sold' Phasers to the Humans, and in particular to the United Earth. This enabled a shortening of the building periods for Star Ships, since United Earth did not have to build the weaponry to be installed. No time lost in calibration, proofing, test firing, balancing, optimizing, etc. All that 'lead up time' was cut from each ship's schedule, freeing up days and eventually weeks of such tests. The Andorians 'sold' the Earth Phasers. Now that sounds so familiar... Advanced Industrial Political Groups, supplying lesser 'states' with 'advanced' weaponry. And then they joined the Humans to defeat a common threat. Humm... again, sounds like History repeating itsef, and it does! So, with historical similar events... No, I don't have to suspend my disbelief that the Andorians would do such things. Humans had helped them several times, to the point on Andorian Captain had a rivalry with a Human Captain, that revolved around 'favors'.
@@zeehero7280 People seem to think that just because EARTH doesn't use "money" in the 24th century for basic essentials (because they don't need to since they have replicators and abundant energy), that the entire Federation doesn't use money either, despite the existence of the Federation Credit, nor the fact that Federation citizens are able to pay for goods when needed without any problems (eg, DS9 Promenade).
I will forever be grateful to Enterprise for being the first to introduce me to the Andorians. I know they were in the series before but Enterprise was the first time I'd seen them and thanks to that series, they are my favorite species from the Federation. Vulcans may have helped Humanity learn about the galaxy and develop some of our technology when we first became spacefaring but it was the Andorians who helped ensure Humanity would not be snuffed out from the Galaxy as quickly as we entered it. Thanks to Shran's admiration of Archer and us "pink skins", they willingly put themselves at risk to defend humanity while Vulcan stood by and actively did next to nothing. They are equal to the Vulcans in their importance to Humanity, not second.
Most likely the earth navy would be a heck of a lot bigger, better tech overall and more human presence (colonies and such) outside the Sol System. As the Vulcan’s did hold humanity back due to the “not being ready” while in actuality the romulan backers didn’t want another empire floating around Though with the Vulcan high command a war between the vulcans and the Andorran Human alliance seems highly likely due to the pre existing tensions

@@weldonwin Personally, I love the parallels this draws with the Klingons. The Andorians and the Klingons have more "hard" sci fi designs for their ships: Long and narrow forward profiles where most of the ship is in line to avoid being hit. Federation explorers are pretty passive and harmless looking, Andorian ships on the other hand are not. Andorian ships look like they'd fit into a military sci fi, and I love that unspoken design intent translate to who the Andorians are as a culture.

He was even a berserker at one part when the Borg attacked his colony. Killing his wife and he's assuming the worst outcome: adapting his daughter. A revenge that still burns but has to be kept in check for he has a position to maintain.
In the early days of the federation, each member flew their own ships with homogenous crew. When engaging starfleet, one never knew whom one was fighting, and the first rule of war is to know one's enemy.
I hope we see some Andorian - Klingon combat, whether it be friendly competition or an actual fight. These two societies would be interesting to see interacting with each other.
In Star Trek combat, especially hand to hand combat is presented in a very weird way. Klingons and Vulcans are three! times as strong as humans. This means there is no way that humans or other species with similar strength as humans would stand a chance aganst Klingons or Vulcans. Strength does not come alone, speed and resistence is also affected so the puny humans would not even be able to harm a Klingon in hand to hand combat.
General Sharan was awesome. My favourite Andorian. I'd like an alternate universe where the Federation keeps Andorian battlecruisers for anti-piracy and defense against Klingons.
One of the things that Enterprise did well was fleshing out Andorian culture. They have the tough guy bravado of Klingons, but with a cooler exterior and attitude. They also seemingly get along with Humans much better than Vulcans.

Very nice breakdown. I’m a big fan of “Enterprise,” which was instrumental in fleshing out the Andorians in ways which had not been done outside the non-canonical novels and comics. However, I was a bit disappointed that the canonical Andorians and those of the “lit-verse” didn’t seem to line up at all, including their homeworld being revealed as completely covered in ice, globally-as previous descriptions had implied a world of varying climates. (Of course that’s kind of a Star Trek trope: almost every planet except Earth has one single environment, lol). I also didn’t care for their world now being referred to as “Andoria,” when it had been previously referred to onscreen as “Andor” as recent as Deep Space Nine. But the what I found the most difficult to suspend my disbelief was that the Aenar (an equally advanced civilization to the blue Andorians) would remain completely undetected for so many centuries by an empire as advanced and militaristic as the Andorians-on their own planet! I found that hard to believe. Still, I am thankful to Enterprise for creating one of the best and COOLEST characters in Star Trek history: Shran. 😎

This video was really insightful! I hope to see a lot more of your videos on Star Trek Empires, I'm definitely curious in what you have to tell us about the Tholian Assembly
The Andorians are one of the best species by how much their ships communicates their culture. Their ships do not look like the Federation's peaceful exploration ships. They are narrow, long, engines inline with the center of mass, and are wide only enough to allow them warp nacelles. These ships look like a Battlestar, and that is not a coincidence. They would not be amiss in a hard sci fi, and the reflection of their military culture in their more grounded looking ships really sells who they are in contrast to the peaceful Federation.
What would a Andorian hybrid look like? How dominant are they antenna as a inherited characteristic? A Andorian Vulcan hybrid would have a rich internal conflict and be a fascinating character (assuming they won the genetic lottery on inherited characters and got the desirable abilities of both parents), and also show that it's not just Humans that boink everything. And what if the Andorian parent was actually a Anear? Double psi heritage.
Appreciate the inclusion of the fan books that were written for this. It's unfortunate that ENT did not get another season just for the Earth-Romulan war
Right, the Andorian Empire, United Earth, and... wait, what was Vulcan's Nation called? The High Command was the government body in control (well, until 2154 anyway), but did we ever get the name/type of the pre-Federation Vulcan (or Tellarite, for that matter) nation?
There isn’t one. All we know is that the High Council and High Command are in charge. They have do have a Science Directorate and a Security Directorate, so “The Vulcan Directorate” might be a plausible name for head canon.
The parallels between two Trek eras were obvious and I wish the writers had gone with them to their logical conclusion. A martial people from a harsh world with a penchant for curved blades, ritualistic close quarter combat, and aggressive-looking birdlike ships. Smug space elves engaged in hidden machinations, espionage, and suppression of dissidents, fielding giant vessels that dwarf their neighbors. A species of short, disagreeable skeptics who nonetheless have great talents to bring to bear along with their aquatic animal-looking ships. Between them the bold members of Starfleet, holding them both apart and together. Eventually uniting together under a Federation after a costly war with an implacable foe. I really do wish this had been the course the writers had gone with following the Dominion War.
Given the mixed eons-old bag of Vulcan history with their history that includes conflicts within their people and their people's inner-conflicts that then had them deal with Andorians, how Vulcans saw Humans was no big shock and how Andorians felt a kinship to Humans also was no surprise.
I always thought the Andorians to be closer to Human Values than the Vulcans. I wonder how things would have turned out if the Andorians discovered Humanity 1st.
probably a war with vulcans not gonna lie. The andorians would do something rash and drag the humans in, while the vulcans were more subvert which allowed the humans to do diplomacy and stop things from going too far.
If I'm going to be honest? It probably wouldn't have went well. The Andorians wouldn't have tempered our bloodthirst, they would have stoked it; and considering how special humans are in the Star Trek universe? Imagine us now but with the power to cross the stars... and destroy planets.
@@marsneedstowels I'm just not a fan of episodic storytelling, but that's just a personal preference. I think I would like star trek a lot more if each episode didn't feel so self contained.
Enterprise was the Star Trek series that was on when I grew up, it made me really like the Andorian species. For all the complaints about that show, it at least made the Andorians really cool and interesting and gave them great characters. I only wish we got more of them and they got to still be as cool and fleshed out in modern Star Trek. I feel Star Trek Online is really the only place where I see them being done real justice.
Factions I would like to see next: 1. The Reapers | Mass Effect 2. The Banished | Halo 3. The Space Wolves | Warhammer 40K 4. The Chaos Insurgency | SCP Universe 5. The SCP Foundation | SCP Universe
It’s too bad TNG and DS9 didn’t have more Andorian characters. But I suppose each series has an opportunity to flesh out and expand on what individual races are like. TNG gave us the first real look at Klingon and Romulan culture. DS9 examined Bajorans and Cardsssians in ways TNG never did, and made Ferengis into a fully developed civilization, not just comic relief characters. ENT did an amazing job with Amdorians, Tellarites, and pre-Federation Vulcans.
The Andorians are underappreciated in the Star Trek universe. They were the antithesis of the Vulcans for Humans during Star Trek Enterprise. The Vulcans were logical, outwardly friendly, and arrogant. While the Andorians were emotional, and outwardly aggressive, but also treated humans more equally. The hostile attitude with the Andorians even exposed that the Vulcans were more like Romulans than they let on.
When I got married at the star trek experience in Las Vegas, we got the two alien package. I chose an Andorian and my wife chose Borg. But the Borg actor was sick or something and they sent a Ferengui instead. That turned out to be great because he kept on flirting with the bridesmaids by insisting they stroke his 'lobes. They didn't know anything about Star Trek, so they thought he was an employee who had gotten drunk at the reception. But the rest of us knew
The Chiss are a mix of Andorian, Vulcan, and Romulan honestly. They've got the blue skin and martial tradition from an ice world of the Chis... the subterfuge and cunning of the Romulans... and the icy, stoic, cold logic of the Vulcans.
I have three episode requests The Martian Congressional Republic (The Expanse) The Quarian Flotilla (Mass Effect) The Swords of Sanghelios (Halo) The Quarians are my favorite race in Mass Effect with the Turians in second and I’m kind of surprised you haven’t made an episode on them yet they’re quite unique I’m also surprised you haven’t made episodes on post-war covenant splinter factions in halo so why not have the best one first The Swords of Sanghelios (Banished fans don’t hate me) also I just simply love the MCRN most of their ships are absolutely gorgeous and I think this one is a reasonable request because you already did one on the UN I know this one is kind of a pipe dream but I would love an episode on the Forerunner Ecumene it’s rise and fall from the Forerunner-Precursor war to the Battle of the Maginot sphere and the activation of The Array.

Outside of Romulan, Klingon, and Dominion ships, the Andorian's have the coolest looking ships in Star Trek.
The Andorians are wholly underrated! Shran was so cool!
It is about *time* you took a look at the best alien species in Star Trek!
This video was really insightful! I hope to see a lot more of your videos on Star Trek Empires, I'm definitely curious in what you have to tell us about the Tholian Assembly
My go to species on star trek online for any federation starting story.
Funny, I don't recall hearing about the Vulcans and Andorians having such an antagonistic relationship until season one of Star Trek Enterprise.
Captain Archer and Shran are awesome
What would a Andorian hybrid look like?
How dominant are they antenna as a inherited characteristic?
A Andorian Vulcan hybrid would have a rich internal conflict and be a fascinating character (assuming they won the genetic lottery on inherited characters and got the desirable abilities of both parents), and also show that it's not just Humans that boink everything.
And what if the Andorian parent was actually a Anear? Double psi heritage.
Appreciate the inclusion of the fan books that were written for this. It's unfortunate that ENT did not get another season just for the Earth-Romulan war
Never push the pink skins to the thin ice, Andorian say
Right, the Andorian Empire, United Earth, and... wait, what was Vulcan's Nation called? The High Command was the government body in control (well, until 2154 anyway), but did we ever get the name/type of the pre-Federation Vulcan (or Tellarite, for that matter) nation?
There isn’t one. All we know is that the High Council and High Command are in charge.
They have do have a Science Directorate and a Security Directorate, so “The Vulcan Directorate” might be a plausible name for head canon.
Suggestions:
1. Kingdom of Demacia - League of Legends
2. The Harlequins - Warhammer 40,000
3. Protoss Protectorate - Starcraft
4. Alliance of Lordaeron - Warcraft
5. Piltover and Zaun - League of Legends

1. Trazyn the Infinite - Warhammer 40,000
2. Eldrad Ulthran - Warhammer 40,000
Thank you for the info and the video.
Cool thank you! I hope we get more of the founding four... (Or 3 not counting humans) on Strange New Worlds.
7:00 when you go to Chicago, make sure not to put ketchup on your hotdog. It would be like going to Qo'nos and asking for your gagh to be cooked.
I've heard this, and I refuse to go along with it. I was born in Ketchup, and I'll die in Ketchup.
@@TemplinInstitute
Jajvam is a maj jaj to ghaj Ketchup
(Today is a good day to have Ketchup)
Nicely done!
The more Templin covers stuff like this, the more I realize I'm not a real sci fi fan. I like some sci fi stories, but many just fall short for me.
Damn you don't like the Andorian Enterprise episodes? We wouldn't get along. But that's okay.
I knew micro state of Andorra would become the next super power, but space? The tiny country has come far.
Maybe my favourite Star Trek species
Star Trek!!!!! Yes!!!! Thanks mate
Thanks for the Intel :)😀
Factions I would like to see next:
1. The Reapers | Mass Effect
2. The Banished | Halo
3. The Space Wolves | Warhammer 40K
4. The Chaos Insurgency | SCP Universe
5. The SCP Foundation | SCP Universe
I like the andorian ice cities they are awesome
It’s too bad TNG and DS9 didn’t have more Andorian characters. But I suppose each series has an opportunity to flesh out and expand on what individual races are like. TNG gave us the first real look at Klingon and Romulan culture. DS9 examined Bajorans and Cardsssians in ways TNG never did, and made Ferengis into a fully developed civilization, not just comic relief characters. ENT did an amazing job with Amdorians, Tellarites, and pre-Federation Vulcans.
Great video as always!
Mission Chicago is going to be awesome!!!
They're everywhere! Just offscreen for some reason. A small pet peeve of mine.
6:08 I don't think so. They embody one other trait that helped them integrate. Discipline.
I suggest Storybrooke, Maine from Once Upon a Time.
Hey federation can we get the klingons?
Federation: We got klingons at home.
Klingon at home. *Blue aliens with antenna*
Cool ( lol ) your talking about The Andorians or as they are better know as THE CHADS of Space in Star Trek.
Respect and keep up the epic work.
Mechanicus?
Imperial Navy?
Chaos Stuff?
Please?
Make sure you hop over to Lou Malnati‘s station and the Portillo’s array while you’re in system.
This was neat
Still can’t believe how they fumbled such a great opportunity 😔
Make a templin style documentary of the Gaalsien from Homeworld Deserts of kharak pls.
The coolest founding member of the federation 🥶🖖
The Chiss and Andorians are kinda similar.
Blue skin
Martial prowess
Ice world
Anything else?
The Chiss are a mix of Andorian, Vulcan, and Romulan honestly. They've got the blue skin and martial tradition from an ice world of the Chis... the subterfuge and cunning of the Romulans... and the icy, stoic, cold logic of the Vulcans.
Ever considered doing a video about the IRKEN EMPIRE from Invader Zim?
I have three episode requests
The Martian Congressional Republic (The Expanse)
The Quarian Flotilla (Mass Effect)
The Swords of Sanghelios (Halo)
The Quarians are my favorite race in Mass Effect with the Turians in second and I’m kind of surprised you haven’t made an episode on them yet they’re quite unique
I’m also surprised you haven’t made episodes on post-war covenant splinter factions in halo so why not have the best one first
The Swords of Sanghelios (Banished fans don’t hate me)
also I just simply love the MCRN most of their ships are absolutely gorgeous and I think this one is a reasonable request because you already did one on the UN
I know this one is kind of a pipe dream but I would love an episode on the Forerunner Ecumene it’s rise and fall from the Forerunner-Precursor war to the Battle of the Maginot sphere and the activation of The Array.
Can you make videos about "What if humanity made first contact with andorians??" 🤔
"Don't push the pink-skins to the thin ice"
Shran is the greatest Character from Enterprise
Oh! You should do a profile on the Night City Trauma Team from Cyberpunk 2077
Can you guys do a video on supreme commander?
Tough as nails and too dangerous to keep as a prisoner or hostage. Best play nice with Andorians. Chicago is a great town for old school soul music and barbecue, do enjoy and keep a blaster handy, it's freaking Chicago after all.
Please tell me you have a vulcan episode for tomorrow?
"strange, new deep dish" 😆
Day 2 of asking the guys in the templin institute to please do an episode on the Gamillan empire
To bad new trek will never have Jeffrey Combs or any good actor in it.
He was in Lower Decks only last year...
Marc for god sake you are here by requested to go to Portillo's, Lou Malnatti's, and Paradise Pub. in regards to Paradise Pub it is best you get there before they open. The place always has very long lines. Oh you must also go to SuperDog. There are hotdog people statues there and it is also a drive in restaurant. Failure to go to these place and take appropriate documentation will result in very bad chicken joke appearing in the comments.
I can never not see the Reanimator with blue deedlyboppers on his head.
What's your source on the empire being "dissolved". Becoming a member state of the federation doesn't mean the removal of a prior government.
Shran = best Andorian
Have you done the Caitian yet?
It's such a shame we never got the Romulan War in Enterprise.
I thought it said "Andorran Empire" and now I'm disappointed that a tiny nation from the Pyrenees isn't trying to rule the galaxy
