I am a 24/7 caregiver for my wife and it is getting more and more difficult to get her to the bathroom. I am trying to prepare for the use of a bedpan although she does not like them. I don't know why I like helping patient but its gives me a pleasure seeing a nurse caring a patient willingly. Not only the qualification but also the good heart.
I'm currently in a BSN program for my RN. I have so much respect from CNA/PCAs because there are so many bedside skills that arent taught in BSN programs anymore. I watch these so I'm not clueless. Thank you for the great video.

Thank you so much for your videos. Went through all of them at least twice before my state exam two days ago. I passed!! I took it with American Red Cross, as well. One of my evaluators told me I barely passed my PPE skill. She told me that my hair had to be in a bun and not a high pony tail because I was contaminating myself with the hair that was hanging down. So picky on little things! Just letting you know so that you can relay that info to the students with longer hair in your course :)
+JanesDiaryxo Congratulations!!! Im so happy that my videos helped you. I'll be sure to let other students know about the hair situation for the gown & gloves skill. I do have to ask did you hair fall in front of your gown for them to make that comment? Because I can see where they might have made that comment because if your hair touched the front of the gown (which is considered contaminated), and you placed your hair to the back of your gown it could be considered cross-contamination. (Back side of gown: Considered as clean)
+SacMed Training Video Tutorials Thank you!!! My hair was tied up and it wasn't near the front of the gown at all. My hair was up in a high pony tail with about two inches hanging behind my neck. It didn't touch the front and cross contaminate or anything. She said I only passed because that wasn't as critical as other mistakes I could have potentially made such as putting and removing my PPEs out of order. Also, one student who got PPEs was given the scenario that the patient had a respiratory infection. So a mask had to be used. My instructor told us that for the 5 years she has taught with ARC, they have only tested the students with gowns and gloves. Not sure if you were told the same thing. But if you haven't, make sure to have your students practice with all the PPEs. :)
JanesDiaryxo Yea that is the same thing for our program. None of our students have experienced having to put on a face mask. Which testing site did you go to for your state test?

I'll try to get the rest when its possible. It's kind of hard to find people who would like to participate in these videos. When it comes to doing any of the vital sign skills you will still have to do the opening procedure and your ending procedure. So please refer to the other videos on how I do the opening and closing. The key points to remember when it comes to doing blood pressure is to always do it on the left arm because its closest to the heart, make sure you clean the stethescope using 3 alcohol swabs, place the blood pressure cuff properly, feel for the brachial pulse, then proceed to take the residents blood pressure. So the stethoscope should be placed where you felt that brachial pulse. Pump the cuff to about 180 never to 200 and slowly release the air. Once you start releasing the air you should be listening to the 1st beat you hear. Once you hear that 1st beat where ever that needle is on the gage is your systolic number. Keep listening for the last beat and where ever you see the needle is on the gage that number is your diastolic number. Example 144/46. Always remember that its going to be even numbers and the unit of measurement of blood pressure is mmHg= milimeters of mercury. So you documentation for the state test should look like this BP= 144/46 mmHg.

+Grizelda Tezendra Good luck. In real life having both side rails up is ok because if you think about it residents need those arm rails to adjust themselves or they need to use it for support. But for whatever reason the test evaluators have told some of our students that they need to have 1 side rail up and 1 side rail down because it can be considered a restraint.
This is still current for the state of California right?
In FL there are some minor differences required in the exam. For example we put gloves on before touching the bed pan and this skill is done on another student

@@larryjolls8205 Hi Skill#1,#3,#15and #18. They want to see us follow the Red Cross study guide sent out by email. I watched her videos along with the RC packet to prepare for the skill test. They let you make corrections after performing skills. It's good to remember to start with " For Dignity, I would have done" .... or " For safety, I did not check...." like it says in the package.
The examiners are intimidating but after all, they just want to see if you have read their study guide carefully. Wish you the best!

You've got that right! I would also say to *always* put gloves on *before* touching supplies! That's how they taught me.

+SacMed Training Video Tutorials im not from sacramento. I took a BSN course (4 year) In the philippines and went back to US couple months ago. I didnt attend any school though. When i had my exam in san jose, the school that was there was MCC. They went as a class, few failed on the skills by either forgetting 1 part of the procedure or simply not logically seeing the situation. For example in transfer: not putting the chair close to the patient. Those are critical points.
For exercise, each finger/toes must be rotate/move or else automatic failed.
Gowning: disposing after procedure, should not open or close the curtain IF situation is said ISOLATION of patient.
Basically gotta think logically. It makes a long the way as we read the situation

Just passed the class in San Bernardino.. If you make a mistake you have time to fix it!!! I put the bed pan without the bed protector at first I just said "oops hold on Mrs Jones I forgot to put this I'm so sorry " what failed some of the students were small mistakes like side rails and call lights and not making a correction when the proctor acts you about your principles of care after the skill

I'm from Michigan, and we are being told in CNA class that we are not to use side rails at all, because they are considered restraints. That's apparently just for nursing homes, because when I was in the hospital having surgery, I absolutely had side rails.
At the facility I work at we do not use side rails because it is considered a restraint. I'm in Oregon.

This skills is amazing but we need to give the client a wipes also because if the client can wipe their hands when they are done ❤️❤️
They forgot the bigger patients that are harder to move or the patients that purposely won't cooperate lol. I loved them though!

@@prtnst When I got hired as a cna, we had five days of training on the floor with another cna. Thankfully the cna's I worked with were really helpful and they taught me how to do things properly.
We have been taught to put some water or wet the bedpan before giving it too patient so that feaces wont stick with bedpan!is this we suppose to do or not
what if they request to stay upright while your removing the pan?
Don't get confused people, if you testing with Credentia, this is not skill 19, nor we need to put a barrier on the bed table and on the bed. With Credentia skill 19 is Foot care on one foot.
Thanks so much for your videos! They help so much! I have a question about this skill for state test. You said at ARC we have to use the standard bedpan for the skill and can't use the fracture pan. Why do we have to use the standard if the packet says we can use either one? Thanks so much!

Hi there - I’m a law student working on a mock case that involves a nurse who is fired due to her inability to lift a patient who needs to use a bed pan (I’m representing the nurse). I would be grateful for your insight: if you were unable to roll a patient over, is there any special technology you could use? Is it standard for a hospital to have this type of equipment?
Yes I am a CNA student...if you can't do it alone espercially if the resident is huge you are free to ask for asistance
