  • Hey Everyone! Always remember to review your American Red Cross packet while watching these videos. If you haven't read the packet yet please do so because it explains what the evaluators are expecting to see, and it also answer a lot of questions you may have for the state test.

    This seems so unusually complicated, but then I have to remember that this is for a paralyzed resident. Amazing videos. I just got out of a short-term care facility due to a broken leg and I've gained appreciation of what STNA's go through. Kudos for an excellent series.

    Thank you for these videos! They have helped me out so much!I had just tested in Sacramento , but unfortunately I did not pass my skills the first time . The written was easy and I was confident I’d pass😀 but in my skills (I didn’t take off my PPE in the right area , I panicked!) ...as embarrassing as that is to admit ... I hope to help someone else with this “heads up”. So anyways this one was my second skill and I was surprised I actually passed , but they totally threw me off. The card stated my resident was paralyzed but didn’t say what side? And said my resident was already in a upright position and she wasn’t? Also they didn’t have any cups only Velcro food on a plastic sheet. No drinks or plastic cups or anything! So knowing how important it is to drink in between bites, I asked them where was the water cup?? The proctor told me to just pretend....unfortunately I had to pretend a lot more than I expected. I assumed since it was the SB Test we would have a more realistic hospital set up? But there was only pieces of paper written on that said; “sink, trash, hazmat etc “ I was totally out of my element, so be prepared for that. Thank goodness the proctors were very kind and professional so that eased my nerves . The best advice I can give (from someone who 😞) is just be prepared to be thrown off and keep in mind the time. Just practice the steps and sanitation , keep watching these videos and read over the ARC skills sheets ( that’s the Proctors check list during board ) DONT forget anything that’s BOLD in the ARC steps, it’s an automatic fail..My next test is soon so wish me luck! Congratulations 🍾 to all who’s passed, and best of luck ☘️ to those who test soon! 🖤🖤🖤

    If you are testing in the GREATER SACRAMENTO AREA (I am posting this Dec 2016) the ARC does this skill differently than how it is performed here. the "meal tray" is a laminated booklet. the front page is the plate cover and also has the diet card listed (there is art, different colored and styled font and the cover itself is brown/orange. pretty busy considering they don't orient you on it nor give you time to orient yourself). the inside contains velcro laminated food that can be removed (it doesn't look that way and the evaluator will not tell you). also, please note that the dynamics of your skill can and may be changed: i.e. the evaluator can pose as your "resident" and you may not have a mannequin. I had this skill and I did not pass because I anticipated the scenario being similar to this and the evaluators changed the dynamics of my skill and also my supplies. the evaluator posed herself in a chair. the only thing I didn't do correctly was making sure the tray was for the resident. because I was not oriented on the supplies they provided me, I could not locate the information and made the mistake of assuming that the "meal trays" were all for the resident and I was being asked to select one in accordance to the listed dislikes and allergies. the evaluators did not clarify when I pointed out my confusion with the booklet and they don't leave room to discuss any discrepancies or misunderstandings. so don't go into the test expecting it to be black/white. they will try to trip you up and throw you off. my class was large, 15 girls. only two of us passed the skills and out of the 30 girls that tested that day, the two were the only ones.

    Is there a list of dietary terms/abbreviations we should definitely know for the state? For example, NAS was covered in the video.

    since you put the talbe in the end within her reach, do we not need to raise the side rail up anymore?

    • @sacmedtrainingvideotutoria6408
      @sacmedtrainingvideotutoria6408  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Elonah Oton Hello, so if your testing out of Sacramento or Yuba City with the American Red Cross students have said the evaluators told them one side rail up and one side rail down in your ending procedure when leaving the resident. American Red Cross's reasoning for this is that having both side rails up can be considered a restraint and you would need a Dr.'s order for both side rails to be up when leaving a resident.

    Hi. I just have a quick question. Should it be feeding the resident from the weak side so the resident can help with the procedure by using his/her strong side?

    • @sacmedtrainingvideotutoria6408
      @sacmedtrainingvideotutoria6408  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Anh Tuan Bui Yes. You will be feeding from the weaker side but placing the food on the stronger side of the residents mouth. You should be asking the resident if they can assist you by feeding themselves using the stronger arm but depending on the the actual scenario at the state test you might have to do the actual feeding like in the video. Asking them to try to feed themselves promotes independence.
