HOW TO RELEASE PRESSURE: there is a fuel pump swtich (or inertia switch) on the passager side floor next to the fuse box. (its different on the B series) unplug the switch crank the truck for 20 seconds it shouldnt start, the pressure is now relived after changing your filter and all that mumbo jumbo reconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump switch push the red reset buttom ontop of the pumpswitch just because the pressure is gone doesnt mean it wont leak! you can elevate the truck in the front to stop some of this but as you can see in the video is not much lost! good luck!
Thank you for this video. I replaced the fuel filter on my 2006 Ranger this afternoon. It had been 27k miles since the Ford place did it at 30k miles. First time I've ever changed one out. My gas catching technique could stand improvement, but otherwise it went well enough (I hope). Had trouble cranking the other day, and later the same day it wouldn't crank;. Yet later and since it's cranked, and I thought I noticed a slightly erratic idle. I figured I'd try this first.
+Mistergibsonsg1 I didn't but you can.The best way is to remove the fuse or fuel pump relay then just run the car or truck until it stalls .That will reduce the pressure
Hey Jim thanks for the reply. Your knowledge is appreciated. Man, so many do it yourselfer''s claim if you don't take the pressure off you will have a fire hose of gas all over the place. And some like yourself, don't do anything but change the dam thing. Even in the helms book they give you a list of stuff to do. Anyway, I'm just going to do like you did and cross my fingers.
+Mistergibsonsg1 I've been doing this for over 40 yr For anyone not familiar they should release the pressure first by removing the fuse or fuel pump relay and running the engine until it stalls. Then replace the filter.Good luck and thanks for watching.
I'd like to know how to diagnose a faulty fuel filter. Got a 03 ranger edge that just died suddenly and won't start. seems like a fuel issue. It then started and ran for maybe a mile and a half and died again. Could this a filter? Any thoughts as to what else it could be?
my 04 ford ranger edge did the same thing i replaced the fuel pump fuel filter plug wires plugs and took out the security system havent had any problems sincerely
My 2006 ford ranger xl 2.3 standard runs then after a while when arrived at destination, it won't start, try to crank and wants to start, like gas not following, then stop for 5 mins then it starts right away, could it be the gas pump? Please help..... Thanks in advance!!!!
1990 chey gmc 5.7 check pressure I think it soppose to be 9 to 13lbs but it is 15 lbs turn key on an start it on an show 15lbs an turn key off an pressure holds for a 3 seconds an drop does it soppose to do that or is the pump leaking or the pressure regulator on a TBI carburetor how do I check for leaks
Great video...Thanks for the tips on the proper release and installation of the fuel lines when changing the filter. Ford seems to use several different types of fuel line connectors which can be confusing.
Steve Rob Wow Steve you have great vision.I'll bet you no one else says anything about the frame.I was a little worried when I lifted it up on the lift that it would not just crumble:)Thanks for watching and being a good friend.Jim
Would it not have been easier to keep the filter in the bracket so you did not have to hold it? Then one hand can twist the line to where it is needed and pull it while the other has the screwdriver to push the clip. I only have two hands, ya know. :-)
Anything that drips over a dirty, rusty frame, or any dirt (and there will be plenty) that falls into that container is NOT something you want back in your tank. Use whatever gas you catch to kill weeds in sidewalk and driveway cracks.
Thank you! You're the first one to actually show where the filter is, super helpful when you don't have a lift.
Thank you so much for this! Clear and thorough instructions like these are worth their weight in gold.
I'm happy to help! Don't forget to like and subscribe
Wish I'd of found this video before i broke 2 of those 3 clips. Definitely the best video I've seen so far for the filter i actually have!
By far the best Video on youtube for this procedure on the Ford fuel filter.
HOW TO RELEASE PRESSURE:
there is a fuel pump swtich (or inertia switch) on the passager side floor next to the fuse box. (its different on the B series)
unplug the switch
crank the truck for 20 seconds
it shouldnt start, the pressure is now relived
after changing your filter and all that mumbo jumbo reconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump switch
push the red reset buttom ontop of the pumpswitch
just because the pressure is gone doesnt mean it wont leak! you can elevate the truck in the front to stop some of this but as you can see in the video is not much lost! good luck!
Good instructional video. In the first video I watched they took off the retainer clamp. Nicely done.
Thank you for posting this informative video. Easy to follow and no nonsense.
+samoawitch Thanks for watching and your feedback
I was hoping you would show to to relieve the pressure before changing the fuel filter. How do you relieve the pressure?
You would remove the fuel pump fuse or relay and then run the engine until it stalls
Pop the cap off
@@jimthecarguy hi Jim, do you need to prime it or anything before starting?
Thanks for the video! Saved me several hundred dollars. Keep up the good work!

Do u remove the gas cap 2 purge the system?
Thanks for the no BS EASY to follow instructions.
Glad to help.Thanks for watching.
Finally got the old filter off and am not hearing the click on the rear connectors, but I heard it in the front. Advice?
Did you have to pull any fuses first or just right to business?
How do you relieve the pressure?? Is it the same way as when you replace the fuel pump?
Yes the same procedure.
What do you do if I notice one of my fuel lines has had the clip removed how would I remove that line now that there's no push clip on the line
Can you send me a picture?
Did you disconnect the battery or pull any fuses to ease the pressure in the lines? thanks
+Mistergibsonsg1 I didn't but you can.The best way is to remove the fuse or fuel pump relay then just run the car or truck until it stalls .That will reduce the pressure
nice video, but i have a cuestion. how do you relieve the pressure.?
remove the fuel pump fuse and run the truck til it dies.. or start the truck, then while its running remove the fuse til the truck dies
Could also use the schrader valve on the fuel rail under the hood.
Thanks! I'm about to change my 2006's before a long roadtrip..this helped!

What code does it throw on this vehicle? Misfire?
Great video on how to take the hoses off the filter. Thanks.
I'm happy to help.

It is possible but the first thing you should do is to scan the car for codes.
When I fell my tank the gas pump stops quick is it a bad fuel valve? I have a 2008 Ford ranger
this also happens to my 2007 Ford Ranger. Did you ever figure out the problem and solution? Thanks.
So you don't have too drain your gas tank?
How often should I replace the fuel filter
1990 chey gmc 5.7 check pressure I think it soppose to be 9 to 13lbs but it is 15 lbs turn key on an start it on an show 15lbs an turn key off an pressure holds for a 3 seconds an drop does it soppose to do that or is the pump leaking or the pressure regulator on a TBI carburetor how do I check for leaks

Can a normal fuel filter work with a "Flex Fuel" Ford Ranger XLT?
Nice Jim. Wow just above the filter to the right there is no frame rail left its rusted away.
Steve Rob Wow Steve you have great vision.I'll bet you no one else says anything about the frame.I was a little worried when I lifted it up on the lift that it would not just crumble:)Thanks for watching and being a good friend.Jim
That frame looks fine besides surface rust. That dark spot is factory crappy rubber coating.
Nicely done, thank you for posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it!

So you didn't have to disconnect the battery or remove any fuses or pressure from the lines? You just took it right off without any safety precautions
This mech. knows how to apply the fear factor. LOL
+Mistergibsonsg1 Fear, nothing to fear just be safe:-) Thanks for your input. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for shearing
thank you
Yeah..I saw the frame too. LoL
wysetech2000 Wow i wish I could see as good as you guys:)
Thank you sir.
what I was actually saying was why aren't you capturing the fuel into a container, that way it can go back in the fuel tank.
Anything that drips over a dirty, rusty frame, or any dirt (and there will be plenty) that falls into that container is NOT something you want back in your tank. Use whatever gas you catch to kill weeds in sidewalk and driveway cracks.
Wish I had a hoist to change mine. It's a pain lying on the ground.
