I remember seeing the DeLotus all the way back in 2004. GORGEOUS design, so well done, and some heavy engineering has gone into that car as you touched on with the way his custom wing was fitted so the louvres can slide right in. Love the LS motor swapped cars, but that DeLotus is in a class of its own.
I'd like to see a delorean with the 4.3 v6 with twin turbos or the 3800 series 2 with twin turbos. It would be a good fit and plenty of power and reliability.
NICE!! those cars look so much better just lowered and completely stock. the original wheels look perfect. I really like the look of the stock front grill. the blacked out lights on the Lotus powered one doesn't look as good to me. I really like the look of the clean glass headlamps.
I believe it was Lotus who designed the frame for the DeLorean....A DeLorean restomod like these would be awesome. But an all stock underpowered DeLorean would be a dud........Would be cool to see a drag racing event to see which restomod was fastest.
Now I want to get one and put a B8444 V8 in it - to stay with the PRV roots! Love ALL those old DMCs and wonder if I got to help on some of these. When I was 17 I worked for a guy in Kansas that came up with a door handle/pull solution. We did at least 20 of them over the year that I worked there. Again all of these are wonderful!
I like that the delotus owner isn't all hung up on how much power it makes. I'm more than certain it makes enough power to be fun to drive. Nothing wrong with wanting to build a racer and going by the numbers, but there's something to be said about just building a car for fun. I like the style.
1:18 one of my pet hates of certain super cars (Lotus Esprit etc) is the Handbrake being next to the exit. You're going to be brushing against that every time you exit the vehicle. You'd think they'd be able to engineer a better solution.
The Esprit engine has a flat plane crank its only 3.5 litres and puts out 350bhp stock…. Lotus couldn’t go for large nrs as the Renault gearboxes couldn’t handle the power.
Lotus didn't go for more power not because of the transmission, but for marketing reasons. The up and coming models had more power, so it would be foolish to put the esprit with the sage or more power to match the new vehicles. The UN1 box has no trouble holding the power. It seems that a few 5th gear failures from shaft overhang, labels every Renault box as weak, which they are not. Internet wives tales seem to be more popular than the facts.

For anyone that’s never driven a DeLorean, that location where he put those 3D-printed cup holders is damned near inaccessible when sitting in the seats. You’d have to lift your butt up out of the seat and twist yourself around sideways to be able to reach that. It’s actually behind your range of reach when sitting.
There’s just something so wholesome and heartwarming when weirdos find each other. In this case it’s the DeLorean lovers. Another example might be people who form a club to shoot only BB guns that were manufactured before 1977. Somehow they all manage to find one another.
The original powertrain was a big reason for the low desirability. 0-60 10.5 sec, 1/4 speed 77 mph with the much quicker 5 speed manual was not the power Americans wanted. But make a blockbuster movie with a Lada as co-Star and they will become very valuable, grasshopper.
Still blows me away to the day, with how often we see the automatic DeLoreans out in the wild. They only made 200. That’s it. Yet I see them out and about all the time. Especially since they’re extreme power-suckers and make a slow car even slower. I’ve never understood why people go for them.

It was designed to have a new high performance v6 made specifically for it, instead they put in the iron duke 4 cylinder that the small USPS delivery trucks used and then later an existing low power v6 from family cars they already had on the shelves.
Doubtful. I don't think he's taking it off road anytime soon and it's practically in line with the tires, so unless someone welds a manhole cover sticking straight up in the middle of the lane and he doesn't see it in the dark, I think it will probably be just fine.

First of all that Lotus V-8 is a pretty small displacement engine as V-8’s go and it does not weight much more than the stock engine. And secondly it will not make the car handle worse. It would make the car more tail heavy of course and therefore it would tend to oversteer more but that could be compensated for simply by using slightly wider wheels and tires on the rear. And you would need them to be wider anyway to transfer all that extra power to the road.
@@Novusod - While it would be correct to say that all modern engines have much more horsepower per liter than engines from the 80’s it is not be even remotely correct to say that all modern 4-cylinder engines are more powerful than all 80’s V-8 engines. By the way, I’m not a V-8 fan myself and all of the 19 cars I’ve owned have had 4-cylinder engines except for the 93 RX-7 which, had a rotary engine. Still, we should get our facts straight here.
@@SLOBeachboyAmericans especially seem to get a truly pathetic amount of HP from large engines, especially in older cars. You could easily get a four/six cylinder engine in there which would make this infinitely better than a low power lazy V8.

Already had to do it. Rear fascia off job, 6 bolts and a multi pin connector for the taillights

Well the lotus V8 makes sense, Delorean Mark II, they were planning on a twin turbo model
Delorean and Esprit share the same chassis since Delorean was developed by Lotus. Chassis in Delorean is just reversed.

How to make DeLorean handling even worse? Put a big heavy V8 in the rear instead of stock V6 :)
Modern 4cyl is more powerful than V8s from the 1980s. Nobody really needs a V8 anymore except for ego stroking.

LS with a dry sump for ground clearance.
Makes sense since the Delorean in the BackTo The Future film had a V8 put in it. Think it was a 350 out of a Corvette but I am not quite sure.

In 1981 there was no V8 making close to 300 hp. The Corvette of the time was under 200.

Amazing little collection, engines look and sound amazing. My question is has anyone solved the creaking sounds inside the cars that ruins the driving experience of these cars.
How do they handle with that much weight over the rear axle?
It actually probably isn't that much extra weight.
