I've always been a fan of his artwork for the SNK games. Always wanted to draw and detail characters like that. They all have this photographic Vogue quality to them.
I used to feel a bit awkward by his pieces mixing such fantastic characters with real life details, but over the time he's become one of my favorite FGC artists. Truly master of his craft
Bought a copy of a very nice "Art of SNK" picture book at an anime store in the mall when I was maybe 8-10; around 2001. I was infatuated with it, as far as how just unique it is, in the same way Berserk comes off, just immediate, or as you said in the video, how a Franzetta immetiately is known without a second thought. With the SNK aspect, these were characters you wanted to imitate, the way the bodies utilized light and especially that of health. Take his beach setting ones, personality is everywhere, but these bodies are absolutely proportional and greek in a way other games and media were not. Still my favorite visual out of gaming
I love his art so much. When I was about 7 years old, I use to scroll through the gallery of King of fighters games. His art always had me thinking like these characters are real and have their own lifes outside the games.
Shinkiro's style always reminded me of Alphonse Mucha-particularly his use of heavy outlines juxtaposed against soft/warm shading. His work is inspirational and truly iconic for fans of the franchises. My favorite illustrator by far.
Growing up with the Neo Geo and SNK in general Shinkiro is all i ever see in my mind when I think of characters like Haohmaru, Terry, Kyo, Geese, Mai etc he defined that system, games and characters in my mind...great video! Side note the 2 bodyguards with Geese are Ripper & Hopper :)
My favorite work from him its in the nest saga, just like you said with the 98 cover, you can feel the engines of the city, i think many of his work feel like that, and thats why i like what he did in kof 99 and 2000 so much, you can feel the freezing metal as well as the heat from the engines, he drawed k with this orange that you always get that feelin, that he was a stone cold robot, but someon who has a good heart. Honestly i think his artstyle works so much better with cyberpunk or just anything that is dystopian and has cool machines
what a wild coincidence. i've just started playing kof '97 because of last week's episode of the insert credit podcast dedicated to king of fighters. now i'm going to the insert credit forums to post your video.
Hm, I'd never heard of Insert Credit before. Just listened to that podcast, it was neat. Hopefully your fellow boomer forumites enjoy this video too (I'm joking (mostly))
I love his style. What tools does he use for his gradient like in the Capcom vs SNK artwork ? Looks like airbrush to me, but I know nothing about drawing.
In one of the interviews I found (the last one in the sources section of the description) he said he mostly uses digital. This was around 2004, I believe, and he next says that when working with paper he likes "Copic's acrylic gouache"
Shinkiro, the man who made the face of SNK. And one of the artists I call master out of inspiration and admiration. I decided to give it a rewatch after the SF6 illustrations he made for Terry, so beautiful. I remember the first time I saw his artwork, it was for KOF 2000, the Hero team of Vanessa, Ramón, K' and Maxima. It was the first time I saw his work, as any mexican who grew up during these three decades, my first contact with SNK was KOF 2002 (Ironic given that he didn't work in that one, 2000 is my favorite along with 98' anyway) and Metal Slug. Years later, it is imposible for me to distance SNK from Shinkiro's work, even if the last time he did something inside SNK was 24 years ago. houndreds of illustrations for SNK, Robot Army, Mutation Nation, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, KOF, Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug are the ones I can name from the tip of my tongue. Every now and then I go looking into my folders full of his works to inspire me. And I'm doing the same giving this one a rewatch with a Shinkiro Smile™
2:04 I saw that drawing in a spanish videogame magazine circa 1994, I was wondering some years if it was a drawing or a real girl cosplaying Nakoruru. Truly amazing. She is also my favorite character from Samurai Spirits series.
ohhhh, this video's great. shinkiro's art has always intrigued me (for better or worse lol) and this was a great showcase of it and you've managed to give me a brand new appreciation for it. thanks for always makin' bangers yo, this is easily one of my favorite channels on the whole site right now!
If there's an artist I feel a connection to, I will; I don't want it to become a case of me looking for subjects I don't really care about just because I feel obligated to make art analysis videos. These were really fun to make though, so I've been considering who else I'd want to cover
Shinkiro is like the Japanese Alex Ross, which is weird, since both artists have done official artwork for Gatchaman (Shinkiro for Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Ross for a Battle of the Planets DVD box set).
I looked it up and apparently it was going to be the cover for a book about Geese Howard's life that was never published. It ended up being included in an SNK art book.
THIS. VIDEO. WAS. AMAZING! T.V.W.A!!! The presentation in the beginning got me hooked really quick! The attention to detail keep me through the whole video. Nice work! Great information! and Awesome excecution! Im going to go look through your vids now lol. You definitley get a like+sub from me. Keep up the good work!
This is the EXACT opposite of what was taught to me in Sambo. Never loo at their eyes, look at their hips. THEY are looking at your eyes to see where you're coming from next, but any sort of attack stems from the hips, be it a punch, or a kick.
Esta es para mis hermanos del sur
It's a pleasure to see the work of a master(I'm talking about you). Very good video I'm speechless 😌
Gracias una obra de arte!
I've always been a fan of his artwork for the SNK games. Always wanted to draw and detail characters like that. They all have this photographic Vogue quality to them.
They remind me of 80s-90s haircut books that you would see at salons
The Leonardo Da Vinci of SNK
I used to feel a bit awkward by his pieces mixing such fantastic characters with real life details, but over the time he's become one of my favorite FGC artists. Truly master of his craft
I found his style off-putting at first as well, but he grew on me over time, and I appreciate it a lot more now

I cant seem to get away from that pic of geese and the bodyguards. It keeps popping up here and there
It's too classic
Shinkiro is my favorite Capcom and SNK artist, thanks for an enlightening retrospective and stylistic breakdown. Love your vids as always!
Thanks!
KOF 97's cover is my favorite Shinkiro's piece of art. Just the characters expressions are phenomenal.
Shinkiro's style always reminded me of Alphonse Mucha-particularly his use of heavy outlines juxtaposed against soft/warm shading. His work is inspirational and truly iconic for fans of the franchises. My favorite illustrator by far.

I wish this was an hour and went through all his work. I've been obsessed with his style since I was a kid.
I grinded KOF for the art gallery. I can looking at shinkro's art for a long time and still be amazed by the small details. A fantastic artist.
What a fantastic breakdown of Shinkiro's art. Really nice video
Thank you!
I miss this art style
I love the realism of shinkiros art one of my fav artist

His artwork is something I find to be intriguing to the point it almost makes me feel uncomfortable in the best way.

Instant sub. Such a good video!
When the video starts with The Head Shaker, you just know it's gonna be fantastic.
Thank you for showing the great Shinkiro some love
How do you come up with so much awesome shit so often? Man I love these videos.
👍

such a good video covering shinkiro AND snk
Man I love his art work. So cool and just a joy to see.
He has a very photo-realistic style.
The vibe of his artwork reminds me of Norman Rockwell paintings. It sets the mood with expressions, body language and emotion
Yes the eyes. I can already tell its shinkiro art by just looking at the characters eyes
Shinkiro is in my opinion THE GREATEST fighting game artist that ever lived. Possibly the greatest video game artist of all time
Excellent. I apricate this over view of Shinkiro's art.
People who enjoy fighting games should know his name.
He's definitely inspired by Alex Ross, but he still manages to do his own thing
I can definitely see it now that you mention it
Just found your channel and been binge-watching your videos keep em coming. I'm certain your channel will blow up.
A true master, no doubt.
Great vídeo, thank you!
Shinkiro's work is striking, instantly recognizable and somewhat off-putting in the mannequin aspect of his characters, but never forgettable.
this was beautiful, i was starting to tear up on the end
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it
shinkiro is the realest übermensch
Max don't comment on my videos unless you're sober
I love his art style so much. If i would be able to draw well, I'd do a few in his style for sure!
Guilty Gear's Sol Bad Guy was drawn by Shinkiro too
I would love just an art book of most, if not, all of Shinkiro's stuff
Hey, do you have plans to make more art analysis in the future? I really like when you cover fighting game artists!

@@TheCellarTaigenMoon I understand, looking forward to more of this series if you plan on bringing it back eventually :)

Great video!
good video hes really the goat
Amazing video. This is T.M at his best.
Toshiaki Mori or Taigen Moon?
@@TheCellarTaigenMoon yes
@@TheCellarTaigenMoon both
shinkiro’s faces seduce me
@3:25 that one
I can see the North Korean communist Manifesto dali
What does this mean
God bless KoF series!
Japanese Alex rose
I think my only issue is most of his art the face looks similar to each other. If he could make different shapes of faces,
