Good morning! It's almost afternoon here at Storrie Lake State Park in New Mexico. Today is June 18th, and I have some unexpected news about a wildfire near Ruidoso, NM, about 200 miles southwest of here. The entire village was urgently evacuated due to the rapidly spreading fire. Fortunately, my friends who were traveling in that area are safe, but it’s a stark reminder of how quickly situations can change.
Despite the distance, we're safe here at Storrie Lake, and I’m heading out to Walmart for some provisions. While I’m out, I’ll share my recent experiences and updates, including a three-camera shot video I created of my trip from Pahrump to Las Vegas, New Mexico. Editing it was a challenge due to the high resolution and my computer's limitations, but it’s now available in two parts.
In this video, I'll also discuss the proposed rate changes for New Mexico State Parks and how it might affect my future plans. Additionally, I’ll talk about the importance of using ethanol-free gas for generators, and share my thoughts on balancing costs and convenience while camping.
Join me as I navigate these updates and take a trip into town. Stay tuned till the end, where I'll share a visit to a local restaurant with friends and an intriguing observation about the camp hosts here at Storrie Lake.
Thank you for watching, and see you next time on Travels with Dottie!
thanks for the tip about ethanol free gas for the generator. and as far as long videos , the longer the better.keep them coming
Hi Rob, Dottie and George!
❤😊
Stay safe! My sister was evacuated from Ruidoso that got desemated by fire!
When I heard about the fires in New Mexico on the TV, the first thing I thought about was you and your RV and Dottie and George. Glad nothing is happening there with the fires.
So far so good
❤️ glad to see that you’ve made it to New Mexico safely.
Hey Rob, love your videos. The long video was enjoyable. Looks like this video has the blurriness with the forward facing camera out the windshield as the travel videos had. Not sure if anyone else pointed that out. Las Vegas New Mexico is beautiful to see and visit. Thanks for taking us along.
Sun and windshield reflections are problematic- not much I can do about it. You may notice it is very clear when I am on the way back because the sun is behind me
I’ve a video about the changes coming out today. Plus I’m working on the number crunching vid to come out soon. Spoiler alert: current calcs $6/day including the cost of ACP versus $20/day with proposed increases. 😮
New Mexico Forests are a Tinder Box.Please be mindful of where you are camping in the mountains have a couple planned routes out. The fires can travel fast. My sisters friend just lost his life in the Ruidoso fire. Be safe.
Oh Susan, that is so sad.
I am so sorry to hear that. Devastating for your sister’s friend.
Hi Rob,
Glad to see you settled in and safe. Loved you video in that small town with Sally, I do like the long video’s, of course I try to watch it at breakfast or in the evening when I have extra time, but I do like your content and conversations with us, you are full of info and insight.
Thanks for taking the time to share with us
Bye for now, Susie in Michigan
thats a substantial increase for a pass, going to make it hard for r/v folks that are retired and on a fixed budget. i agree split it down the middle
Rob, I don’t see part 2 of your Vegas to Vegas trip posted. Are you sure it has been?
Right now the only way to watch it is to click on it at the end of part one. I am planning on making it generally public tomorrow but here is a link you can use right now

I love New Mexico. If they raise those park rates, I'll be so disappointed.
A lot of people are in the state parks full-time at $225 a year. Limits the amount of available spaces. I can see paying $600 to primitive camp full-time.
It will be an additional $5 per day for primitive camping. For a 4 month season that would be $1,300.
@@Dottietravels It'll be $15 a day without the annual camping pass. Currently it's $8 a day without the pass, free with the pass. If they were going to charge $15 a day on top of the pass no one would want it. The pass will give you a break on regular campsites but you will have to pay extra for utilities.
