lol the Vita definitely has a ton of first person dungeon crawlers don't feel bad about putting so many of them on the list they're all great and deserve more recognition. Great list as always man.
I was just telling people the other day about Valhalla Knights 3. It's got such an unusual setup and world that it stays interesting. Most importantly, there are something like over 30 classes which is unheard of for a single player game, and you can customize characters with a main class and two sub-classes, so it's kind of like the ultimate 'job system' game. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I have most of this list and like them all except I couldn't get into Akiba Beat and actually sold that one. Something about the weirdly empty streets... I like the Atelier series but had trouble with most of them for the same reason. Empty streets devoid of people and activity. But the alchemy and battle keep me trying with the Atelier games, as well as the art being truly beautiful! I'm sad that there will be no more Vita releases though I easily have many, many games that I haven't got around to yet just on the Vita (plus tons more on all the other systems) . I hope my 2 Vitas hold out for the next 20 years! I have a Switch, but the Vita is such a great size in my opinion. Thank you for another fun video! 😁
I love the EXE games. So far I have beaten Revenant Saga, Antiquia Lost, Seek Hearts, Fernz Gate, and Illusion of L'Phalcia. Fernz Gate straight up has one of the best storylines of any JRPG I've played. Some of them may feel very samey, but the writing is easily the focus of these games.
Adventures of Mana was great. Brought a lot of memories up for FF Adventures on my GB. i found my copy that i had when i was a kid last week. the Kemco games are great classic RPGs. And God Wars, got that on switch and enjoyed it a lot. great list!
I’m not much of a first person dungeon crawler guy, but my girlfriend really likes Demon Gaze and just bought the sequel. Definitely a hidden gem if you like Etrian Odyssey and games like that. Great list Erick! I’ll have to check out Akiba’s Beat again - I definitely overlooked it.
Dungeon travellers 2 is bigger and better than demongaze imo. Problem eith demon gaze is that your combat strategy is repeated too much. But yeah its a fun game and I look forward to trying 2.
wast texting on phone didn't want to go into detail. Demon gaze, l ike I said, has issues where you often do the exact same thign over and over too much. The samurai class for example, you just use the 'slash everything' move every fight except bosses (and even then you will on bosses with adds), and maybe the super aggressive single target one where you keep attacking until you take a hit or something. HOWEVER, I thought demon gaze was super cool with its random-location boss waypoint encounter mechanic thing. It made regular dungeon exploring kind of intense! I wish more games would take that idea, better t han EOs FOEs imo. But why not both? Oh, regarding dungeon travellers 2, like I said I think it's bigger and better, but it's also harder. So don't play it ifyou don't like a challenge, or blame it on requiring a grind instead of trying to stick it out and figure out how to without grinding much. Grinding in DT2 is really slow though, so if you give up and accept that you can't do it without grinding... it's gonna take awhile. At one point, there was this corrupted elephant god boss I was having a hard time with, and I look online and everyone was like it's easy, just use this this this. and I'm like whoah what. those are 3rd class abilities and I'm 4 levels behind in even getting the 3rd classes let alone skills for them! So I started to grind.. I did one level, was still 3 levels behind, and was like eff this too slow, imma just git gud.. and beat the boss. Still haven't had to grind since, and I'm currently at the final story dungeon, but yeah game is tough! ALot of the bosses seem like they can just 1 shot you at a whim too, you need to have proper builds for most bosses after a certain point. It also unfortunately has more than twice as many characters who can join your party than you have party size, and if you don't have them in your group, they get NO experience.. terrible I k now, I agree... but but.. game is so good (if you like a challenging dungeon crawler).
You know........i have to agree with you 1000 percent on valhalla knights 3. I mean I played tons of jrps, but there was something about V3 that kept me hooked. By no means is it a big budget title, but it had this something..... even now I can't explain it. I really really enjoyed it.
I loved the battle system and also, I forgot to say the game's hard as fuck but it's one of those that have you grinding and doing quests and buying armor just so you can beat that hard boss...and then get stuck in the next. XD
One game that I really liked that never gets much love and I consider a hidden gem on the PS VITA and PSP is “Unchained Blades”. It is a great dungeon-crawler with excellent characters and a pretty cool story. Some of the characters and their reasons for attempting to reach the Goddess of their world are very interesting, emotional, and deep. The dungeons and battle system that allows you to have “followers” is also a blast. It is also available for the 3DS and I recommend anyone who enjoys JRPG’s or Dungeon Crawlers to give it a try.
The Vita is amazing! I really wish we got a physical copy of trails in the sky sc here in the states. Just picked up the muv luv trilogy and heard it was a great visual novel game.
I bought all three TITS games on Steam and - of course - Cold Steel 1+2 as their sequel series. Can´t wait for CS3 and - later - CS4. But physical copies are good for collectors.
i like this video simply because of Oreshika. I remember hearing about it from a friend when it was still a japan exclusive and totally forgot about it. thanks to your video i got a friendly reminder! thank you.
I recently picked up God Wars on clearance at a Gamestop, only twenty bucks! Good game for the price. Have you ever played Trillion? I haven't gotten very far into it but liked what I saw. Dungeon Travelers 2 is also fun, but another 1st person dungeon crawl. But I like those.
Couple of great looking games in here that I'd heard of but for some reason thought were something else. Why didn't I know _God Wars_ was a SRPG? I'm not even sure what I thought it was now, VN maybe but not a SRPG. Didn't even realize there was a _Valhalla Knights 3_ I played the first one (maybe even the sequel) on PSP and they were decent enough, but quickly became overshadowed when I found _Monster Hunter Freedom_ quite possibly the title that made it worth owning a PSP (since it got me into the series and I even imported _MHP3rd_ and beat that as well without having to wait for translation patches).
I remember Demon Gaze. It was a decent dungeon crawler game, but I wasn't really feeling the fan service. Lol. I know fan service is heavy in the sequel, so I just didn't bother with it. I completely forgot The Lost Child came out. I've been out of touch with dungeon crawlers for so long. I just don't have the free time anymore to play those games as much. I tried to give God Wars a chance, but when you're spoiled by Disgaea and other NIS games from the previous years.. it's really, difficult for me to give other srpgs/tactics games a try. Of course I can replay FFT so many times no problem, that's the one game that got me hooked into SRPGs in the first place.
Adventures of mana also got an android release and looks the same as the vita version.i was going to mention sword of mana which as you said was also a remake. It was more a re imagining than a remake which is why in my humble opinion its the better version of all 3 games.
will anybody tell what the game is called where its like a SMT clone but not as good as the lost child and is set up more like a Visual Novel game and the characters use these avatar thingies to fight demons and monsters. its was released exclusively on the Vita.
yeah I figured that out already, also i'm I the only one who thinks the Lost Child is less SMT and more card master: the seal of Rimsala i mean other than you use demons instead of tarot cards its more similar to Card Master to me at least.
About dungeon crawlers ... I enjoyed Demon Gaze (1 and 2). I liked the art, music, setting and scenario of Mary Skelter, althoug I really found that the "dungeon crawling" part was a bit bland and repetitive. Not really sold on the Lost Child. But I'd want to give my vote to Dungeon Travelers 2. I am not a big fan of the scenario and the fanservice is a bit annoying for my tastes, but out of all of the dungeon crawlers on the Vita I have played, it was imho the most satisfying game mechanics-wise. My personal hidden dungeon gem :p
I am not sure if they are on the psvite (they are on the 3ds and switch) but the mercenaries games (like mercenarie sage 1-3 and the newly released wings) are good mid tier ff tactics clones just have a guild for the puzzal puces and you are fine.
Would you happen to know if the adventures of Mana for Android is worth it? I always consider buying it, but it is very hard to see a good port on Android....
As long as the game is smooth and has lite to no issues, you have a powerful smartphone, you don't own a Vita, you're fine with touch controls or have a nice gaming paraphernalia aka bluetooth controllers then go for it.
@@ErickLandonRPG So I read your advice and decided to completely ignore it :) The game is quite good (my only complaint is that the monster takes some time to spawn, so sometimes you run directly into them). Wait Adventures of Mana was a remake of the first game? Definitely an instant pass for me then, the excellent Sword of Mana is enough for me, though I am curious why you dislike it? On Mary Skelter, not sure if you know, but it would have been interesting to mention that the sequel will be for PS4, and it will even include a sort of remake of the first game :O For Akiba's Beat, while I haven't played it yet myself (I think it looks a little too basic to warrant the prices I've seen for it, even on sale so far) it seems a lot of people expected something different, going by the original game. I've been working on The Lost Child on my PS4, and boy is it kinda stale in comparison to other DRPGs... It has some good ideas but it's like it was developed in a bubble, ignoring a lot of the quality of life updates the genre has gotten over the years. It's not a bad game but it felt kinda outdated compared to other DRPGs of this generation. I tried to get into Oreshika, but I find the system that makes you having to over and over level up new characters because of the age system made the game feel semi-shallow. Still sad to not see Stranger of Sword City :P. Hoping you do a third video, the Vita still has a lot of hidden gems ;)
What stopped me playing (way too early) was the “pull the lever and race to the temporarily open door” mechanic. I knew it was going to get worse and it stopped being fun😢
If you're still interested, the girls can lick blood off of one another for a small buff, at the cost of resetting the counter to the licked girl's super mode... which, while powerful and super useful, can be a good thing, because they have another, much more super mode that is also completely uncontrollable and can one-shot their own allies if their blood meter fills with corrupted blood.
BIG NEWS FOR (Hopefully) ALL VITA OWNERS! Check out the current "Big in Japan" sales on PSN! There are sure to be at least a couple of great ps vita games on sale. LONG LIVE THE VITA!!! :D
Erick Landon RPG - Seem like the Nintendo Switch is a haven for Indie games and games that would not see a physical release otherwise. I love the Nintendo Switch almost for that alone, along with first party games. 😂
Great list. I owned most of the games since the PS Vita is the platform I collect the most. Some of the reason I think people didn't like Akiba's Beat was how much changed from Akiba's Trip. I loved Akiba's Trip, but haven't played Beat yet. I platinumed Tokyo Xanadu since I'm such a fan of Falcom. I beat Demon Gaze, but have to do some serious level grinding to be powerful enough to get the platinum, or maybe need to change my team up some. I started Mary Skelter, but was a little burned out on dungeon crawlers and started Ys: Lacrimosa of Dana. Adivine Hearts was a lot better than I expected it to be. Nothing amazing, but it did give me that old JRPG feeling. I bought Revenant Saga, but missed out on Antiquia Lost. You should check out Moe Chronicle (Play-Asia import), Criminal Girls, and Aegis of Earth: Protonovus Assault. Moe Chronicle, and Criminal Girls (1 & 2) are fan service games, but I really liked them. Just don't play them in public, lol. Aegis of Earth: Protonovus Assault is a defence game and I loved it. The characters are wonderful and have funny interaction. It's usually a pretty cheap game to find.
I think Revenant Saga is not available anymore. I checked yesterday for this video and Antiquia and Asdivine were stil there, how come you missed Antiquia?
I really enjoyed the video. I like it. And from this video I can see that vita hasn't change a lot, yet. If i may talk about my opinion, The JRPG library in this console are quiet much but sadly most of them are not that good. The only JRPG that got my feelings and pulled me really into the game was the digimon cybersleuth 1-2 and persona 4 golden, god eater and final fantasy x1-x2 HD. While the others JRPG really doesn't attract me as much as them. Most of the JRPG in this console are too mainstream, lack of innovation in both story and gameplay mechanic. PS2,PSP,and Nintendo DS still holds greater JRPG library than vita.
Thanks. And yes, I'm actually starting to doubt the Vita as well, but at least there's a bunch of really good games for it and that is enough for me to keep loving it, haha.
@@ErickLandonRPG yep. I'm still hoping for more updates in vita JRPG progress. And what I really want is a real JRPG, not some RPG games from mobile phone like those games from kemco. A real JRPG for console. You can tell the difference between mobile phone games and a real console games. It feels really different.
Haryseus Gaming same with 3ds rpgs lol except for kingdom hearts 3ds all of them are mehhh we have ps1 classic rpgs aswell and psp rpg then games like persona 4
Oh yeah, Tokyo Xanadu (ex+). Technically, the events are only for friendship with subtle romance with the girls. The REAL romance bonding events are in Cold Steel, which will be leading to the highest and strongest bond a girl and a boy can have in CS4. I am glad, that most - or at least some - of the PS Vita JRPG are at Steam or are still coming. Maybe, I will buy a PS Vita for the JRPG which are not on Steam yet. A PS4 depends on how good will Kingdom Hearts 3 be at the end of January.
Could they please remake the PSone FFs with great post game content. Yeah you complete FF8, but if you start out the complete save file, time compression is still there with nothing to really do...
Akiba's Beat mostly gets flack for it not being anything like Akiba's Trip...But for me, it's the characters and the dialogue that's just a complete failure...It doesn't matter if the repetitive RPG gameplay is solid if your story is shit.
I only got Tokyo Xanadu because I thought it was related somehow to the 1980 disco musical starring Olivia Newton-John featuring the music of Electric Light Orchestra lmao. Then I find out that the Xanadu franchise and The Legend of Heroes series are both spin offs of the Dragon Slayer series.
I know you already listed quite a bit of DRPGs but Dungeon Travelers 2 is worthy of a mention I think too. I never really liked the genre until I played it, overlooking the fan service it's a really great, balanced game and avoids ridiculous traps or sudden difficulty spikes that drpgs usually have. The characters and comedy are great too.
Wow Akiba's beat, pretty enjoyable but for me I hated nearly all the cast. Exception to Reiji and Scythe girl and her maid. The rest just feel Over the Top that it becomes cringe inducing. Also, fuck you weird plushy thingamabob, calling Asahi dingus despite him helping you. Hooray for Demon Gaze!
All the time I was playing that game, with the character name Asahi, I felt uncomfortable because the co-protagonist in SMTIV Apocalypse, A GIRL, has the exact same name: Asahi.
'If you seek tons of fanservice designs' - as if any sane man would like this shit. And you shouldn't praise fanservice stuff in the videos because, well, it's a bad thing

That Mary Skelter theme at the beginning!
My thoughts exactly :3
Nice game loved it despite me despising Jack. Love how Fairy Tale(almost typed Tail) characters are used and are bad asses, excelt Jack.
Also no forced touch mini-game bullshit.
Exactly. Unlike in Criminal Girls, where the mini-game is forced on you, in Mary Skelter it was optional and I liked that. Also yeah, Jack is kinda...extremely cliché and stereotyped, boring character to say the least.
in adventures of mana if you run out of keys in certain dungeons,YOU ARE STUCK FOREVER!!

I was just telling people the other day about Valhalla Knights 3. It's got such an unusual setup and world that it stays interesting. God Wars really exceeded my expectations. I was thinking it would be a generic strategy game, but it felt like Vanillaware made a strategy game.

What stopped me playing (way too early) was the “pull the lever and race to the temporarily open door” mechanic. I knew it was going to get worse and it stopped being fun😢
At Mary skelter, what that 'lick' command at battle ?

Hopefully Adventure of Mana is released physically on the Nintendo Switch/Nintendo 3DS!
That'd be cool
Erick Landon RPG - Seem like the Nintendo Switch is a haven for Indie games and games that would not see a physical release otherwise. I love the Nintendo Switch almost for that alone, along with first party games. 😂
Beat the shit out of cute little black magicians on Adventures of mana, thats illigal bruh
Tokyo xanadu what i know it's popular and rumor says they plan to make it to frachise. someone can tell me it's true or no?
Please make a part 3. I finaly buy a psvita. (Sorry my bad english im brazilian)
Dónde está la primera parte?
Estoy 100% seguro de que la puse al final de este video.
@@smokegamingchannel5370 TRUE! No fuckin kidding!
Haryseus Gaming i also bought a switch ordered one today vita and switch all i need for portable console both have great games
The best jrpg is "the criceti tales of enernal parrocchia" for the lynx.
Okay, dude. :)
Could they please remake the PSone FFs with great post game content. Yeah you complete FF8, but if you start out the complete save file, time compression is still there with nothing to really do...
never mind, I figured out what it was, it was Mind Zero.
Akiba's Beat mostly gets flack for it not being anything like Akiba's Trip...But for me, it's the characters and the dialogue that's just a complete failure...It doesn't matter if the repetitive RPG gameplay is solid if your story is shit.
make a list of best turn based jrpg

@@ErickLandonRPG thank you
Aka what get before store close
Can i have the list of all games
I only got Tokyo Xanadu because I thought it was related somehow to the 1980 disco musical starring Olivia Newton-John featuring the music of Electric Light Orchestra lmao. Then I find out that the Xanadu franchise and The Legend of Heroes series are both spin offs of the Dragon Slayer series.
lol
Damn dude, you just got a vita and already came up with 10 hidden gems? Well I guess the entire vita library is hidden.
20* haha
Hidden gems! lets see if i know of any :D
Man, do you know Dysnasty Tactics 1 and 2 for ps2?, its amazing!, simple and very funny, you need to play!!!...
No, I didn't! Thanks for telling me about them!
wish they were on ps vita, and also the rot3k games outside of japan
Asdivine heart 2 is on mobile for some reason.
Cool
@@ErickLandonRPG Also antiqua lost
All Exe-create RPGs are originally for mobile devices.
Play your guitar in the beginning maybe just once in a video before starting
I'm actually thinking about a new intro in which I'd like to include a clip of me playing it :D
Well the classic RPG's intro fits. Unless you can play a classic RPG's tune xd
Jd Walsh FF8 - Breezy... that’s an easy one 😉
Yeah that's like only 4 Chords right not classic enough. Wild arms them is great
Wow Akiba's beat, pretty enjoyable but for me I hated nearly all the cast.
Also try Demon Gaze 2, it's jist as enjoyable as DG1. Man loved how there's a slight variation on the dialouges when choosing certain replies.
Super Robot Wars
Only in JAPAN.
'If you seek tons of fanservice designs' - as if any sane man would like this shit. And you shouldn't praise fanservice stuff in the videos because, well, it's a bad thing
hate 1st person games even for jrpgs
I used to hate them too, then SMT happened.
First person is the best way to play dungeon crawlers!
i think #1 is the only good one
That's just your opinion, man
@@ErickLandonRPG ya, mostly due to my lack of patience with those dating sims disguised as rpgs
...you can also date girls in #1...
I think it's Tokyo Xanadu
Akibas beat seem like the world end with you
