Wanted to come in and appreciate you putting in Lost Dimension! It's a fantastic yet undersung game.
Kind of missing out Criminal Girls 2. The story was legitimately interesting and good, the battle system is a really interesting and well-developed twist on the turn-based battle system and even the mandatory touch minigames were fun by having good variety.

They're definitely the best, but I love me some Level 5, too. And I still hope for Square Enix to develop good games again. If not, their army of studios is still going strong.

I tried playing Ys Origin about a year ago, I think, and I just couldn't get into it at the time. But I coincidentally started playing it again this past weekend, and something just clicked, and I am loving it so far. I also own most of the games on this list, except for Lost Dimension and Atelier Shallie. Good list, good video. Thank you!

Jose O. Rivas, if you like Japanese and/or indie games, there's quite a lot of good games available. Both 2 Old 4 Gaming and BlueMaxima's Gaming Channel ended up compiling their personal top 100 lists recently. Those might be good videos to watch, if you'd like some more ideas.

Well they know how to make game unlike se,always make a game that focus on story and nothing else.. Nowadays, jrpg is much favorable when they include social simulation like ToCS/atelier instead of generic stories like ff

Another great list Erick. Have you played Salt & Sanctuary on the Vita? It's available on almost every platform now, but it feels really at home on Vita in my opinion.

Great list as always! Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana is such a fantastic game. Its combat and exploration feels nearly perfect.
Also Dana and the other girl are waifu material. They are cute and loveable

@@damienbreslin6204 for me persona 4 first try is so good that you will feel link to the characters ( when you finish the game you will feel like losing best friend), but second try not so much anymore. While cold steel is more slow burn , which you will feel like why it took so long and the stories are super long and deep detail stories. But once you got hook to it, super addicting even i played the 3rd time alrdy. For me cold steel is my most favorite and i become falcom fan because of it☺ i even played the previous sky and ao zero too.. persona close to second.

I am contented with the list however, I can definitely see a Set 2 and 3.
Personally though I will put Tales of Hearts R in the 9th spot. I enjoyed it but I got pissed with all the backtracking added with the high encounter rate. I remember switching to Easy from the Hardest available right of the bat. It is not that I cannot handle the difficulty however being pissed at encountering loads of random enemies when I am puts a damper on it. That was at the Church area with Doors and Levers, although me having difficulty moving even my thumbs added too due to my potassium defficiency.
Persona 4 golden and Trails of Cold Steel are legendary.I'm totally hyped for Trails of cold steel 3 and of course Persona 5 Royal.
I've always been interested in playing Attellier series but i have no idea where to start with it as some are continuations to stories (i believe)
You can play any, Shallie (the one on the vid) and Escha&Logy are the only ones i played on the vita. These are just lighthearted RPGs though, don't expect Persona or ToCS-level of storyline. The fun part of this series is the alchemy stuffs (experimenting and synthesizing), and it also has beautiful art style.

I believe The Atelier series follow their own trilogy, imo start with the Alchemist of the Dusk saga, then move onto other ones

Have you had a chance to play Child of Light? It's really neat, and has a timing-based, turn-based combat system.
I liked the story and the art. It's not a long game, but it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Technically, that's a Western RPG, so he's legally required to slap you for asking him if he's played it. Sorry.

He did play this game, just FYI. Like this game, but whatever you do, don't buy it on PC, no matter how cheaply. It's by Ubisoft, which means you'll have to suffer their launcher alongisde it.

Great list. I don't have a Vita, but I've played quite a few of these on the PS4.
Ys Origin was a lot of fun.
I'm playing the first Trails of Cold Steel game right now, and it's great.
Ys 8 was spectacular.
I've played a little Odin Sphere, and I've enjoyed it. I just got distracted by other games.
I definitely need to get my hands on Memories of Celceta. I hope it gets an announcement for an English PS4 release. If not, I'll have to pick it up on Steam.
Tokyo Xanadu would have been a good inclusion as well, but I imagine there were already enough Falcom slots on the list as it was. I loved that game. It's like Falcom took Ys and Trails of Cold Steel and smashed them together.
With an influence from shin megami tensei on the atmosphere.
Can you start with any YS game on the Vita, or you do need to play them in a cartain order or play some YS games from other systems?
I would add Grand Kingdom, because it was surprisingly good and addicting. The PvP part is rather hard, but the main campaign is already worth it, with some fun challenges in this strategy RPG with an innovative in-depth battle system.
shytende aka Tamanoir, unfortunately they shut the servers down on October 1st. I hadn't tried it yet and found out a week or two before it happened. I've heard that the grind goes up, quite a bit, if you don't play PvP. I'm guessing you still think it's worth playing though, right?
@@Rpm2878 When I tried, PvP was far harder than the main campaign, so it wans't really good for grinding IMO.
I still find the game pretty worth it without it
Most of them are on Sale right now on the Playstation store in case someone is interested, Personally i recommend getting the Muramasa Rebirth bundle with all the dlcs it's on a really good price and also don't take too much space digitally

Trails of Cold Steel is a fantastic series. I played the first one and love the character storyline and development the most. I'm currently playin the second one and it also just like the first one only with new stuffs added and surprisingly a harder difficulty level.
Surprised to see Persona 4 so low and no mention of Cosmic Star Heroine. Awesome list!
He always have said that isn't his favorite Persona because of the focus in the school setting, actually i'm happy that at least had a good place in the list
I don't have a vita so I am missing o P4 Golden, Ys Celceta and Tales of Hearts .... Damn. But I can agree that Ys Origins, Ys 8, Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere are excellent, phenomenal games. I already spent hundreds of hours on Dragon Crown's multiplayer, beating all difficulties with all 6 classes and plan to replay all the other mentioned games some day.
Wow. You must have really dug Dragon Crown to beat it with that many characters, that many times. That rules. I've never tried it but am looking forward to giving it a shot. And thanks Erick for the awesome video. I've got all these titles on my list now, though I'm already a huge Persona fan and 4 Golden is superb.
I still need to play memories of celceta and ys origin. I've only played ys 8 so far.
I was actually kind of mixed on ys 8 when I first played the very beginning of it. Maybe since I played it on my TV when it looks more like a portable game, that might've thrown me off a bit.
However, once I got into it the game quickly became one of the most enjoyable games ever for me. The charm and sense of adventure just puts it above most other games. The story was also surprisingly good and the ost was excellent. Just a top notch game.

Have you played magna braban on snes?is a japanese rpg but you can find it in english .
Great to see Rocksy with her bow in Dragons Crown! The stream you did of DC was brilliant! As was your Ys Origins stream! That's the game that got me into the series, and I just love Ys battle system!
I dont have a Vita, but love the games you have included. Havent played Lost Dimension, TOCS1&2 yet on Ps3, they are part of the ever growing backlog! (Wait that's another of your vids lol)
As a relative newbie, I did not realise there were all those Ys games that I'm missing out on that are on the Vita. 😣

I love Lacrimosa of Dana but for me my favorite experience from falcom so far is either CSIII or Sky Second Chapter. That being said, i'm playing through Cold steel IV right now and loving it :). Can't wait for YS IX!

I would have preferred Tales of Innocence instead of Hearts (it being my favorite Tales game.), because I wasn't that much into the story here. The battle system was really fun though.
To add to this: Dungeon Travelers 2, Demon Gaze, and Mary Skelter: Nightmares are all world class dungeon crawling RPGs.
Odin sphere is my all time favorite JRPG as well. I own every vertion ever released on all systems.
I was wondering if you could do a top 10 of the best games you can play on Vita including the Playstation classics and psp games you can play on it.
I'm getting back into playing on my Vita and would love to know the best I can play on there.
1) Utwarerumono - likely the best rpg on vita
2) Fate extella - great but short, and second part (link) feels even shorter.
3) Hyperdimension Neptunia rebirth1 - very bad translation but still great game
4) Dungeon Travelers - the best dungeon crawler on vita, with Mary Skelter having close 2nd place
5) Danganronpa 1-2-3 parts, better to play in chronological order - not an rpg, but must play if you havent
6) Disgaea 3 - the best game among first 4 parts available on vita/psp
Actually vita has so many good games, that it is hard to call best 10, would be easier if you specified genres or preferences.
Never heard of Tales of Cold Steel. Wish I'd known about it when I had the system.

There is this one game, Disgaea Afternoon in Darkness, that I played on my Vita. I don't think it's available on any other system, so that might be a good place to start for your PS Vita exclusives list.
That is a PSP game that is a port of a PS2 game, that is available on VITA. It's also available on PS4 & DS. lol Not an exclusive.
Well I guess then at least it’s not on the Switch, so it’s still kind of a Vita exclusive

Lost Dimension is so good, I’m glad it got mentioned, falcom killed it on the system and has two of the best rpg franchises ever. There are some many more great RPGs on the vita, I love this handheld.
Yeah, Lost Dimension do something truly unique and special. That traitor system really was interesting, and the game play was cool as well. It definitely let a lasting impression on me. (,And Extra Mission is a pretty dope techno track.)
It's a little bit sad that Muramasa Rebirth didn't make to this list since it deserves more attention and also features some exclusive things in the vita version, anyway i was expecting your opinion about P4G since you got a Vita so it was a good video
Muramasa Rebirth was one of the first PS Vita titles I played, and it's one of my all time favorite games.

The Atelier games are what I play when I need something light hearted. Can't go wrong with playing as an adorable alchemist just trying to make the world a better place.
I could guess some titles on this list before starting to watch. But there are also lots of Falcom games on it.
Trails of Cold Steel, Persona 4, Lost Dimension and Ys 8 would belong on my Vita list as well. As much as I'm tempted to play the other Ys games on the Vita, I won't do it because I don't like static camera angles in action games. Couldn't even play Memories of Celceta because the european version doesn't work with the PSTV (I don't own a normal Vita anymore) while the US version is expensive and also hard to get in my region.
For myself I would add Mary Skelter Nightmares but mostly for story reasons.
About the Tales of Hearts R some fans doesn't liked, but the DS version don't come outside Japan, so are we well served to have the remake?

I kind regret that I sold my vita and 3ds last year because I need money, now I have job so I can save money to buy vita... But now in my country, the price of used vita is more expensive than last years

My favorite would be.
1:Dungeon travelers 2, one of the best dungeon crawlers on any console.
2:Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, Really unique RPG
3:Demon gaze, real soft spot for this one as it was my first PS vita game.
Try Mary Skelter it is dungeon crawler almost as good as DT2, it has less content, and worse post game, but it feel more wholesome and less episodic.
Also try Utawarerumono it is very nice tactical rpg with great story and gameplay.
p.s. Demon Gaze was my first dungeon crawler on vita and I am really sad that Demon Gaze 2 is worse than original game.
@@amai2307 Got the Plat for Mary skelter and it's no where near as good as DT2, it was far too easy which made it pretty boring for me.
@@newhope33 idk, dt2 is also very easy, but I had some troubles during nightmare hunts. Obviously any dungeon crawler can be overgrinded, maybe that was your problem? Or maybe you havent played on highest difficulty.
Trails of Cold Steel is so underrated , how I wish 3 and 4 was also on the PSVita
yeah man, it's good to see the people in the comments rate it as their fav games on ps vita, and trails 3 & 4 will never be on the vita, but i wish i can play them on portable, hope that falcom port them to switch tho
I'm super late to the vita..just got it recently. But I am having trouble finding anything to play that I don't have already on my 3ds or switch now. Outside the few persona games and a few games that are not as good as monster hunter. Any suggestions? This isn't meant to be hate towards the vita...it was way before the switch and if I got it in the beginning I'm sure things would be the other way around. My fav game of all time is fantasy life on the 3ds....so anything similar would be amazing. Right now I'm gonna be playing the ys games I don't have ..but not really sure what to also play
Same here man, I love Fantasy Life on 3ds. Super fun and hilarious game lol. If I'm bored with battles I can just cook and making clothes. I recently just got Vita too, and really like it. Yesterday I just finished Persona 4 Golden after 70-ish hours play time, such a masterpiece game I think. There are Digimon and World of Final Fantasy games on Vita, you should try these, but they're also available on Switch though.
@@alvindior5508 yeah, honestly I think I'm gonna sell my vita. I have a retroid pocket 2+ so I can just get persona on there I think, but I just have every game I really wanna play on there already sadly . And I love to collect physical and the vita games are just ridiculous in price lol. I have several psp already...with a ton of games...so I may just unfortunately sell my vita since they are pricey. Hate to do it, but I also hate for someone else not to get to play it.
@@packers12to80 I think with just one game, persona 4 golden, is enough to have a vita. Even it's now available on pc (steam), the best way to play it is on a handheld. I personally prefer handheld over home console/pc to play jrpg. Also worth mentioning, trails of cold steel i & ii is on vita. Switch only have cold steel iii & iv in english. Wow retroid pocket 2+, what consoles can it emulate? I have modded my vita, installed RetroArch and Adrenaline so I can play psx, psp, and other retro stuff
@@alvindior5508 it can emulate up to ps1 supposedly from consoles..and every handheld . I believe. I'm horrible at tech. So it's currently just sitting in it's box lol. A few months ago I grabbed a psp modded with over 800 games on it. But it's on a psp....sadly . I wanted to get my vita done too but I got that retroid pocket 2 + . So I'll have to find someone to load it up for me lol
@@packers12to80 so don't sell your vita, just find someone to mod it, lol. I have 3ds, and I think vita is far superior in terms of hardware. It's from the same generation. I bought 3ds because of its game library, its exclusive games. I have modded the 3ds also, so I can play nes, snes, gba and other retro games. For nds game, I play it on ds directly, it's better in ds than 3ds. Even for retro games, vita is better than 3ds lol. I don't have retroid pocket or similar devices, is it good? How does the button feel compared to psp or vita?

If you want some jrpgs try Utawarerumono it is way better than whole list at this video. Actually vita has a lot of good rpgs, but for whatever reason a lot of people just put beat em ups and action-rpgs on their lists...

@@Lucario6804 gl hf. Btw from dungeon crawlers Dungeon Travelers 2 is the best one on vita imho, it has huge amount of content(200+ side events), great art, likable characters, reasonable story and fun gameplay, including good postgame.

Vinicius Nascimento Valkyrie Profile on PS1 proved their worth to me.
@@richardaaron4454 I liked "Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky" from the same creators, but never played the Valkyrie profile games.
I´ll try the Odin Sphere and Muramasa rebirth on the vita first, if the genre grow on me i´ll try for sure in the future
The PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS have best current libraries of JRPGs by far imo. Both system are just full of great JRPGs, I probably like the 3DS better because it also lets you play the amazing DS library of JRPGs as well. Well also Etrian Odyssey is one of my favorite series of all time and the SMT series. The Persona series Disgaea series on Vita is up there too though. I basically just love Atlus and NIS games period. They remind me of the old Squaresoft when they were pumping out the best JRPGs back in the NES/SNES/PS1 days. I’d take a Vita or 3DS over any home console currently because JRPGs are my favorite genre, even though I do love other genres JRPGs hold a special place in my heart.
The only game i haven't played in this list is The Lost Dimensions. This is my top 10

You forgot to mention that in Lost Dimension the traitors are randomized each playthrough. Which I think is great, it takes predictability away in future playthroughs.
Most of the time your attention was focused on:
1 The Battles (no)
2 The Enemies (nope)
3 The Items (not it)
4 The Chests (BINGO! ... kinda...)
Just saying in Persona 3 (portable I'm sure, I don't remember on ps2) you could choose the attack of your allies too. And I'm OK, as usual, with your choice ;)
persona 3 portable is on psp, not vita.

I don't regret owning a Vita. They gutted all of its apps, but I got an early chance to play some good games before their PS3/4 versions came out. Also, the enhanced versions of Gust titles. There are very few good Vita-exclusive RPGs, but they exist.
Vita is def a great console my new favorite handheld of all time.
I could never get into the newer Ys games (ie. the ones with multiple party members.) I consider Ys: The Oath in Felghana the best followed closely by Ys Origin. I have been meaning to try the Trails games for a while. I swear I'll do it one day.
I wanna play Lost Dimension but after seeing the prices, I don't want to open my new sealed copy. Found my Vita games today in storage when looking through my games and didn't remember what I had. I'll just play it on Steam and leave it sealed I think. lol

I never finished it because that final battle is far too hard, but it's definitely an interesting one. And it's quite stylish as well

Proud to say I've atleast played 50% of this list. And I'm glad that some of them are already ported to modern systems, so I don't have to chase after overpriced games. I'm still looking to get persona 4 golden though...

my favorite vita game - Tokyo Xanadu - combat is a bit boring, but I love the story/character side of things. Just edges out the first Trails of Cold Steel game for me.
