IamNotaBanker what you have to understand is the difference between a white man in poverty or a hispanic/black man in poverty is that America will give the white man many chances to make it out, while with the black/Hispanic man are left on their own to deal with their own problems.. I really hope you educate yourself more on topics before you decide to speak on them... you're just making yourself look like a complete idiot here

And also bro even if say he had an average mind set why would u say “black people are screwed” why bring up the whole race? Their are many Black people who a very smart. Don’t let yourself feed into those stereotypes fam and maybe I’m looking to much into wat u said and ur intentions wasn’t even that and that’s not what u meant by writing that and sorry if I did read it wrong but just in case I just want to say this fam

The problem is that society glorifies the 'gangsta lifestyle'. Look at all the media, music, videos, movies etc etc. Selling drugs and being a thug is glorified to show that you will get rich quick and have 'power'. Stop glorifying the gang 'lifestyle' and things might start to change.

I just had to sit through a 60 minute presentation on PTSD at school, and they didn't talk about anybody but military folk. When it came to questions, I asked why they didn't talk about kids that live in violent neighborhoods. They looked at me like they never considered the fact that they have PTSD, too. And they don't get money, benefits, and general respect like the military people do.

funkyjunt Hey buddy go read a book. Your ignorance is showing. PTSD in the African American Community is a real thing. For starters we were stripped of our culture brought to a place that doesn't accept us a Americans even though we are born here. Being raped one time or watching someone be beat to death can traumatize anyone for life. Slave experienced this daily for hundred of years. Than after slavery there was Jim Crow. Were people in suits rich people lynched and tortured black people for entertainment ,made up crimes or just because they felt like it. No therapy was every given. We were just told to keep it moving. Make a life in a place where your not wanted not liked or viewed as equal. Some blacks actually did succeed and created communities that were wealthy(Black Wall street) but guess what that was destroyed too because of jealous whites. Learning my history was a traumatic event. Knowing that to this day Americans with brown skin still get killed and the killers get off free is traumatic. Knowing that my grandparent know and seen people , friends get lynched, beaten and killed. My Grand parents! You have the nerve to sit an act like this is for money or out of laziest, your stupidity is disgusting.

Gang volence is dramatically down in L.A. 100 murders in one small section of the city in the past 7 years is a lot today. The problem there is the small section next to it did the same thing, and so on. There's a lot of small sections, connected to other small sections from east to west and north to south. From the city of L.A. to throughout the county of L.A. But times have changed. It is 2016. Modern day banging in L.A. started in the 60s, escalated in the 80s and topped out in the 90s and early 2000s. That's decades of continuous killings. The decrease is due to new technology, less illegal money on the streets, more parents focusing on keeping their kids out of trouble, smaller families, longer jail sentencing and gentrification throughout L.A. If you pull up the statistics from the 80s and 90s you would find that each summer brought more deaths than what's reported here. This violence L.A. was started when these kids grandparents, and great grandparents were kids and teenagers and still continues today over the same original beefs from the 70s, 80s and 90s. That's the disturbing part. I was born and raised in L.A. I hit my early teen years at the end of the 80s and began associating with the neighborhood at the beginning of the 90s. Life was much different then. It is only now that I am able to experience all that L.A. has to offer. As a youngster there were very few places I could visit. Set tripping was a 24/7 sport. It did not matter if you banged or not, if the neighborhood you were visiting had issues with the neighborhood you lived in, you had major issues. The rule back then was if you live in that neighborhood, then you were from that neighborhood. The OG's would say if you don't get put on the hood and strap up, then your gonna die in these streets for nothing. The type of car you drove, your age, the way you wore your clothes, your color choice, your walk, your talk, where you lived, being a punk, being too hard, being black or latino or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time would get you killed. When there was stripes to be earned, everybody was a target. That even continues today. I'm not comparing L.A. to Chicago or any other city in the world cause we are all losing. One death is too many. So there is nothing to brag about. To go through life not being able to grow up and visit the friends and family that you knew from childhood cause they are dead is not cool. Not even a little bit. Death is life, but this type of death is a choice and can be stopped.

My heart goes out to all affected. Combat or not. It kills me to know there's children so severely affected like us. Except we signed up for it, as adults we knew what risks we were taking.
No child or even citizen who just wants to go about their life peacefully deserves this.
So much I want to say that I'm feeling but no words to describe.
Fuck you vice, I hate them feels..

ah.. I live by this area too. See most of these streets when I go out on the weekends. My street isn't so bad though, primarily Hispanic and got a school nearby now which limits any violence around the area. There have been two deaths on the corner of my street though, used to walk by there everyday for two years when I went to my old school. Didn't even know until I saw the murder featured on America's most wanted and recognized the corner of my street. I didn't think my area was that bad, but then again, I don't ever dare go out at night, not even to my back yard (we have a pretty big house). Its eerily quiet at night, most you can hear is people arguing somewhere. Been living here 17 years though, gotten used to it. My parents still make it their goal to move out of this area though. Especially after someone robbed our house a couple years ago.
    Maybe someday.

I really appreciate them for making me feel important and that they actually cared about me .. I my self almost served a life sentence.. at the age of 19 .. witness numerous shootings always picking and choosing where you go .. looking over my back .. paranoia sets in ... I’ve struggled with all these suppress feelings fell into drug addictions but I’m a fighter all the odds were stack against since my childhood ..’ mind you I’ve held important jobs that would require a degree im a go getter n I will never give up ...the government gotta focus on our communities and stop bullying other countries .. seriously my bad for my rant but the closest to the problem are the ones wit the solutions .. so all y’all outsiders don’t judge a book by its cover man cuz the struggle is real out here

Lots of people wan't to blame accessibility to guns, drugs, and the burden of racism, and poverty for the problem, but while they may have a influence I believe education deficiencies are the main root of the problem. Societies where the people are more educated have less poverty and also less crime because people realize they don't have to live this way which is detrimental to their health. Meanwhile societies where there is a lot of violence and poverty there is also a deficiency in education. Too many people stay in poverty because they simply don't care enough and feel that the effort is pointless. If you gave every poor man a million dollars, by the end of the week a lot of them would be back on the street cause they wasted it or didn't know how to wisely spend it. We need to educate people in poverty stricken areas to take advantage of the system and make them realize that they should not accept what is good enough.

I went to manual arts that year I was also a senior the time that kid was shot and killed. i knew everyone in the video. And they use to say all the dumb ppl went to "SEA". I did fine. I saw and witnessed just about what they did. shootings, drugs, fights, etc.. I played varsity football participated in leadership volleyball etc.. I now live in Indiana going to college. That Kid Jose I use to see all the time since 9th or 10th grade. The kid that got shot as well. i always saw him as a tagger or in crews. Jose I always use to see smoking or affiliated with dumb stuff. Honestly if you keep away from all that you'll be okay. of course if you hang with the wrong ppl something will happen to you. i honestly feel smoking weed will affect you more and get you into dumb things than seeing violence. I was never affected by what i saw and that didnt determine my future. They just always hanged with the wrong crew and smoked weed. Sad story though. and its sad to see that. I think what helped me the most was just moving out and getting away from all the bad influence. got my mind off of it and got away from it. (even though thats what I did the whole time there).

As resident of Los Angeles, It upsets me the way this community is depicted around the nation! Violence happens all around the world, not only in "South Central LA." The level of exaggeration by the reporter goes over board! This is the problem with media, where underprivileged communities are portrayed as the worse, when in reality these are the neighborhoods in which kids persevere the most! PEOPLE ARE COLOR BLIND BECAUSE OF THESE "documentaries!!"
As a student trying to help children at risk in my community, it infuriates me to see that such reporters degrade my community and other communities to that level, and make the rest of the nation believe what is not true! This is a true example leading to Disproportionate Minority Contact!

Did they even say once that all of La is like this? No. Nobody said anything about your over privileged ass they were specifically talking about living in lower income neighborhood's giving ptsd not how La is full of violence it's how the poverty neighborhood's have all the violence.

Ed Dawse Hello Ed, I read your comment and I hope you and any children you may have are undergoing colonoscopies. Colon cancer can run rampant through a family. My mother died at age 72 and my son died at age 41, both of colon cancer. I have had polyps removed every couple years since I was age forty. My Gastroenterologist said my grandchildren need to have colonoscopies beginning in their early twenties, even though insurance won't pay for it. Good luck to you and your family. Diane

Diane Stearns Ms. Diane, thank you for your informative response. I am 36 and have never had a colonoscopy. Would you recommend going starting at 30 or earlier? What is earliest anyone in your family or anyone you heard of developed it? TY in advance ;)

    • @Navillus.55
      @Navillus.55 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Ed Dawse Hi Ed, I sure hope your mom is having colonoscopies regularly. Since she and your aunt were twins, it would be very risky for her to put it off. My son died at 41, but he had been undergoing treatment for two years prior to his death -- making him 39 when it was discovered and then it was far too late. The polyps had obviously been growing for years. I can't even count the number of polyps I've had removed -- there have been so many. Fortunately, because they were caught early, they were not cancerous and I'm 77 now. You can talk with a Gastroenterologist and get his/her opinion. Just for my own peace of mind if I were you, I would have the colonoscopy done now and see if there are any polyps growing. There aren't any symptoms until it's too late unfortunately. I did a history of my maternal family to try and find where it began -- but this had been in Arkansas with no doctors, and people just died -- so I never did find out which side it came through. My paternal grandmother died of some ailment which may have been connected with her bowel, but it was never diagnosed either. My three grandchildren will have their first colonoscopies at age twenty, if I have to drag them to the doctor and pay for it all. It isn't an easy death.... My son refused pain pills until two weeks prior to his death so he could continue working, until he finally went into the hospital where he died. He was very conscientious about taking care of his family and it hurt me to see him suffer so much. Again, good luck to you and your family. Diane

I suffer from some level of ptsd, i grew up in a gang infested neighborhood, from a young age i developt a gangster mentality, music played a big role on my outlook on life and the way i carried myself, i've been shot in the stomach, i've been shot at a few times from distances shorter than a couple yards away simply for driving on the wrong street, i've been jumped, beat up, chased through houses with an AX, stepping outside of my house and hearing the screams of families who just got their sons/brothers/fathers killed, seing dead friends laying on the street covered in blood, i tell my family about this "ptsd" i think that i have but to them im just crazy and need to snap out of it since it all happened long ago and im grown, i'm 25 now, i havent been in that environment since i was 18, but it still haunts me... im paranoid everywhere i go, i drive keeping a big gap from the car im driving behind or next to just in case i have to make a getaway , i have to be watching every car that surrounds me or passes by me to see who is driving what theyre doing and making sure they dont pose a threat to me, i cannot sit anywhere with my back facing the door, walking at night time has me on full alert/panic mode, i avoid certain places and i do not exit my vehicle before looking around first making sure everything seems okay first, if i even sence that something isnt right i leave the area no questions asked, i'm always vigilant, its hard explaing it to normal people because they look at you crazy, they just dont know. im tired and sick of always having the feeling like i need to be armed, i hate being alert and on my toes everywhere i go, i can never enjoy the moment because i feel something can happen at any moment and i need to be ready, if i catch someone staring at me i nodd my head at them as a form of respect if they dont nodd back i presieve them as a threat and all of my attention is on them with my hand on it ready to go, i play it off by just looking straight but my side eye is on them. Ive changed alot, i dint dress the same, i stopped shaving my head and my hair is now long, i go to college, i try my best to avoid conflict or drama or big crowds, road rage has been really challenging for me.. people that want to talk hard while driving not knowing what i have in my hand can end their life...its taken absolute power to hold back from losing my cool, i have things to lose now, and people i cannot let down, but everyday is a battle, i pray that some day i'll find peace.

*This is for anyone who hates gun rights*
Taking guns away from people in LA wont change anything. Africa's hutu and Tutsi genocide had only knifes and axes... more like take the criminals away from LA would make a better argument. Gun is an object that doent make decisions. People do. Bad guys don't buy guns. Bad guys wouldn't give their guns away if the government told people to give their guns up, only good guys would.

Opinion time: I think Vice is exaggerating in this one. The difference is that soldiers of war have these symptoms even after they have left the battlefield. They are safe yet they behave as if they are still in a war zone.
These kids never left the warzone, their fear is very much real. So when they duck when a balloon pops, I think its a normal and wise reaction when you live in such a rough neighbourhood. Their fear is substantial, it's not just past fears haunting them, it's reality trying to get them. That's a big difference in my opinion.

Fazeelat, I don't know if you're a psychology major or not (if you are, you better sue your college for doing a bad job at educating you) but your persistence in getting the stories out of the people you interview are just ... ridiculous. You don't know when to stop when you see a person is uncomfortable with your lame questions. It makes us uncomfortable.
So far; you, charlet, and karley are the vice hosts videos I will not be watching anymore.
