Man, you're a lifesaver, kudos :D Also, I was using Win10 x64 and it went a bit differently for me... after restoration, the hello screen appeared only on my iPhone, iTunes said there was some error and supposedly it failed, but when I already felt disappointed, it turned out the phone was unlocked anyway... and I could normally reconfigure it, after which I could sync it normally with iTunes Just saying in case anyone else had the same error and thought it had failed whereas it might have actually worked
i did all this and cant see to get the box to appear for restore. I also did on apple computer with itunes open and still no box?? The pic on the ipad2 come up with little round itunes and pic of socket so its in the mode, but no box on windows or apple computer in itunes program??

Hi. This doesn't work for me (Windows 10 PC). I have tired it so many times.. I have the iTunes screen on the iPad (gen1 A1219) but the iTunes software does nothing.. no pop up (restore option) comes up.. nothing! I think it is recognising something being plugged in as when I do a loading circle appears for a split second, then nothing. Please help before I hurl this iPad through the window.

Alright, I had the same issue. I could solve the problem this way in my windows pc. Just press and hold shift key and click "update". It will ask to select ipsw file. Go to the directory where you kept your file and thats it.

Update** anyone getting errors make sure you only have the updates folder in the iTunes rooming folder, having trouble with that until I deleted them
