@@chrisa2796 honestly, no need. pretty much no matter what there will be *some* misalignment from the motor to the bell housing without a flexible coupling and especially with his methods. As someone who designed many power transmission systems for various implementations, I would have hung the motor from the shaft and attached two bars from two holes on the bell housing to two holes on the motor. I have many times designed small conveyors where the gearbox and motor hang from the head pulley and are only held from one bolt back to the frame; mostly because the conveyor only goes one way.

If you're talking working in a 120db factory 60hrs a week, I'd agree. Few minutes, even a couple hours of grinding over a whole day isn't anything I'd bother worrying about honestly.
Actually, OSHA standard is anything over an average of 85 decibels over 8 hours. Considering an average angle grinder putting out around 110db, he'd have to be actively grinding for over 6 hours a day for multiple days to justify ear protection.

Hey Rich, love the build idea and can't wait to see this thing done. For templates like that, once you get it lined up how you want, you can also use spray paint shooting straight down to basically cast a shadow of where the bell housing is. When you remove it there will be clean metal where it was but everything else will be painted. Not a quicker way for sure, but usually makes a really clean outline.

Got a tip for you. Get a jig saw and a metal cutting blade. They last a long time as long as you dont try to turn it in the metal. For those straight cuts in aluminum it works great. I went through several cutting wheels trying to cut a steel truck frame before figuring this out. I did the rest of the job on 2 cheap jig saw blades. It was also faster cutting, quieter and didn't throw sparks. You can save those cutoff wheels for hardened steel.
