i'm here bc of Matty's recent string of tweets. I love you, Matty. We all love you Matty. This is your story. Please never be afraid to let us feel that
@@summersunnysmile on the one hand, this specific song is one of the most beautiful live preformances ever. on the other hand, this song isn't a love song, its a song about matty's struggles with herion. seeing so many people happily singing a song he wrote about the darkest part of himself must be insanely mixed emotionally
I feel good and self satisfied when I see bands like these affecting more lives across the world. This is music, this is what it was always meant to be.
I find it hard to say "bye bye" Even in the state of you and I And how can I refuse? Yeah you rid me of the blues Ever since you came into my life Cause you're my medicine (Yeah, you're medicine) Yeah, you're my medicine (You're medicine) I, I wanna marry you Said I, I adore you And that's all I have to say, bye-bye And you opiate this hazy head of mine Cause you're my medicine (Yeah, you're medicine) Yeah, you're my medicine (You're medicine)
bee boo i really dont want to know the lyrics because i want to get as curious as i was again when i first heard them sing live "Chocolate" but still i wanna know. 😁
Medicine live is honestly one of the most beautiful things ever. Just, everything about it man. The guitar, the sax, the drums, the orange cityscape in the background. Everything. And I haven't even heard it live. If this video could make me cry every single time I watch it, Idek how I'll feel when I actually hear it live. I hope I can witness its beauty one day.
listening to the lyrics after seeing mattys tweet makes everything add up much more clearly. it’s so sad but he’s come such a long way and i couldn’t be more happy for him.
The lyrics of this song are so full of feelings, and that thing that the crowd is doing with the phones... just amazing. I'm in love with this band, and with the way they make me feel
I was so extremely happy to hear this live and so lucky. This song holds such a special place in my heart and I've always dreamt of hearing them play it. 💖
Matty clearly has a passion for what he does- you can see how emotional he is near the end. That's the face of achievement, when you've worked so hard to get to a certain point, and you reach it. The 1975 is the reason why I picked up a guitar, because of Adam's insane guitar talent (this video doesn't do him justice considering it shows him playing 3 notes) and Matty's comfortably producing the most incredible ambient guitar rhythms. I hope one day I reach the same point they did on that night. Legends.
I can't begin to imagine how hard it is and has been for him to deal with this for so long. I was watching one of the interviews he did for the new album and then went on Twitter to see him speaking about this song and this performance. my heart aches to think about how much he went through. I'm so grateful to know and be able to enjoy and appreciate his art. this band has been my safe place for so many years now and their art makes me feel so understood and like there's at least some sort of concept in which I can just be. I don't even know where I'm going with this, I guess they just make me feel a lot of things and sometimes it's hard that I can't talk about these things. matty has inspired me everyday for years and I'm so happy and proud of him and the rest of the guys too. they truly deserve everything good in this world. matty, if you ever read this, it's okay. this is your story and things happen and you've written about them and made art out of things that aren't beautiful but it had to be made. it's okay, you're okay. I appreciate your sincerity about this song and about everything else. thank you.
I know this comment is years old but I just wanted to say that you said all I wanted to say. “Medicine” for me was anorexia and I was going through that at a similar time to Matty’s addiction so I resonate with him on a lot. I’m so glad he’s still here 💜
I got engaged while they played this song live. She cheated and it ended and the fact this is about a heroin addiction makes it way more fitting to the actual relationship
These guys have so many masterful hits it’s actually crazy. I remember being really ill 3 years ago. Chronic fatigue syndrome; completely took my life away. Then by complete happenstance, a puppy landed in my life. I didn’t search for her. I didn’t even really want a dog; she just appeared (a relative got her then changed their mind). I remember not long after I got her, it was snowing (it only snows here like once every few years) and she was out in the yard, playing in the snow; catching snowflakes and stuff.. This song was playing. I broke down for a few mins as I gazed out the window at her, and it all sank in. She was my medicine. In the height of my illness, I couldn’t even walk her round the block. But little by little, I found the strength to take her a little further almost daily, because I knew she deserved the best, and I had to do it for her. Fast forward to now, almost 3 years later and I’m still not recovered but I can do most day to day stuff - which I’m thankful for. And she’s the reason for that. At one point I thought my life was over, what kind of life would that have been really.. I’m tearing up now writing this and I don’t cry often at all. Thanks Matty and The 1975. I actually have many fond memories courtesy of you guys. Keep being awesome. (Sorry for the vent)
styronwood I know! Lol but people interpret songs differently so that metaphor will probably still stand with many fans. Just like Matty and his music are many people’s medicine

Cecilia Thomas he basically said that this song isn’t a metaphor for a girl, it’s about drugs, and that he feels really guilty for keeping that a secret.
Funny thing is I always had a feelin from the frist listening that it wasnt about a girl. Just a feelin in my gut. I knew it was probably about drugs. Maybe because I was in a similar Situation back then and felt different and perceived/interpreted music different.
Watching them perform infront of such a massive crowd. The atmosphere, the people and the mood that it sets you with. It's so overwhelming, you feel this surge of emotions in you, yet you find your peace, just by watching them sing and play.
