Hahah so true, it also had an airbubble in it from me trying to roto cast it so see if that would leave a nice wrist-hole for the Christmas tree, but that could also be turned into some kind of wound :P
Lots of info here because it's introducing you guys to three new skills - silicone body casting, straight silicone on silicone casting, and silicone painting, and I had problems with different steps of the way, so I wanted to include those to be as informative as possible and hope that giving you the knowledge stops you from making the same mistakes. The voice over ended up being like 37 minutes long so this tutorial is the first half, I'll finish editing and upload the second half soon. Then I can edit the feet tutorial and have that be a more condensed version of everything, already having had in depths explanations and techniques explained in this one :)
I don't know if this is a new product or anything, but why don't you use 2350 Sealer and Release to release your mold and cast without worrying about unwanted bonding? Does it clog up any detail?
Thanks! Yeah it's been about 4.5 years of slowly collecting the tools and supplies, it's definitely taken a shit-tonne of my disposable income :P but it also helps me to pay my bills by working in the industry.
Hahaha I mean you're mostly right, having professional tools and products helps a lot, but I found that when first I started making encapsulated silicone pieces they looked like shit still because I had no experience with how thick to sculpt the edges, how thick to make the cap plastic, how to properly blend out or paint things, so it still looked pretty meh. So it's expensive products + experience, just to make it seem even more unachievable, I"m not sure where I'm going with this... oh, yeah, no just look at Powdah's youtube channel cause he can make amazingly realistic stuff with cheaper supplies, like wax and alcohol paints predominantly, but he is also a wizard. Maybe the moral is with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything? And the difficult journey can make the success even sweeter. Also Marc is a wizard, and we must burn him.
Love this tutorial! It is so indepth! I totally want to try a silicone cast! Does the soap and alcohol mixture ever effect the silicone you cast in? Like cause bubbles or something? Are all molds that have no seams called glove molds regardless of if it's on a hand? Can't wait to see the silicone patching in the future! Thanks for all of this great info :)
i'm always looking forward to your videos, and always get so excited when i see you on my subs dash ! this was awesome, can't wait to see the painting process
@Freakmo so hypothetically, let’s say that your model WAS starting to feel burning (or just completely did get burned). What’s the protocol to get it off? Peel it while wet and wash his skin really well? Do you just scrape it off? I really need to know
I started out 5 years ago with latex and toilet paper, for most people it's a slow progression into more intermediate techniques and materials when you can easily accomplish the beginner things and want to advance yourself more, and when you can afford it. Do things at your own pace :) I then moved onto wax, gelatine, third degree or sculpt gel, then little flat moulds with encapsulated silicone, through to big encapsulated silicone moulds now and prosaide transfers, but it does take time to really learn each new material and moulding process, don't rush things, enjoy the process :)
Omg just love it to watching you .Oh gosh its so hard .I need to make a model realistic hands but I never done it.Can you tell me what I need exactly for it to get a really nice detailed hands without bubbles. Please please
It's so fascinating to watch I'd love to do a hand but to practice nails I'm not sure if to buy one or make one but I need cheaper option any ideas of suggestions for me please xxxx ❤️
WHY DIDNT I FIND YOUR CHANNEL SOONER!? I started my silicone venture around 4 months ago and didn't come across many videos at all but ended up here from epoxy curing videos!? Can you please tell me more about releasing? Currently using stoner from Barnes but am losing 20%(ish) of molds within a week of casting them from the silicone bonding... This has been a really expensive hobby so far...
Also, do you think it would be helpful to cast using alginate, then pour the positive using plaster, and then make a cast of the plaster using silicone with a plaster mother mould for a long-term mould? Or would it be better to pour the positive in silicone and make a two part mould from plaster? Or any other suggestions? I know that theres a lot of potential for loss of detail by having to cast from negative to positive to negative but I wondered if it might be a good bet for making one using alginate that can also be used more than once :)
I’m planning to do something similar soon but my mold is made of alginate. I know I don’t need a release agent with alginate but do you have any other suggestions? Also I didn’t see you degas the silicone before pouring it in your mold. Were you able to avoid all bubbles just by pouring a thin stream? I don’t have a way to degas my silicone so I’m hoping I can get a nice casting like yours just by pouring in a thin stream.
I have heard of that actually, but never tried it, my air compressor is dying (it overheats really easily) so I'll need to get a new, stronger one and see what it can do
Freakmo I'd imagine a bicycle pump might work as well. Also, you might be able to make a needle hole in the end of a finger or between fingers and blow the casting out of the mold (I was originally thinking of going in at the wrist like with the wooden tool).
Yeah it's super popular in the states and with pros! It's really expensive here (imported across the world) so I'm so happy we now have an Australian made self releasing silicone here for the same price as regular platsil :)
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
Hi, this is a great video for learning purposes. I'm just wondering how much overall of the Barnes Pinkysil Silicone did you use to cover the hand? Half a kilogram perhaps? I'm looking to purchase some myself and I'd like to know how much I would need as I don't want to run out of it half way through the process! Thanks
Hi! I want to make my own hand and i would like to know. How much measure of silicone do I need to use. Can you help me. I'm trying to find the products in USA
Hi! Looks great ☺️ for the fairy liquid & 99% alcohol release is it 50/50 and do you coat it and leave it for 45 mins to dry and repeat 3 times? Thanks in advance x
Is the final cast material heavy? I wanted to make a silicone cast of mipha's head fin/tale from Zelda botw piece but have no idea where to start. I was thinking of making a clay version of it first, cut it into a few sections and make a mold of them and cut them out in half if needed. I originally would like a solid piece but fear it would be too heavy and expensive so I planned on creating a hollow cast and filling it with filling if it doesn't properly hold the shape being how big it'll be and piecing it all together with an adhesive. This will be my first time using silicone to cast. But I have experience with creating basic molds and plaster/resin casts for tile and gem like object of 1 surface and one back but not a full 3d mold and cast. I'd greatly appreciate your opinions and advice.
Is there any way to make such a hand hollow? Just like some glove? actually i am looking for a realistic skin glove for my arduino robotic arm? can you please make a video on how to make silicone hand gloves (which look really like hands) pls ? Thank you
this is something i dont get but i have a hydrocal mold set to go of a head i plan to turn into a mask. My problem is im not entirely sure how much Platsil gel 10 i'll need to pour into the mold which im guessing like maybe 4lbs???(Maybe 6 because i have to fill in my nose and some deep scars on the left side of the face and ears as well as a thick enough skin layer to wear) so thats 62 oz of both A+B platsil right? How much deadener would i need to pour into that? Or how would i figure that out?
Mam m just having Tatto on my hand n I want to crack my interview of airline so can u inform me how could I cover my Tatto it’s possible if I will use duplicate skin
Thank you this helped so much. In our school we are doing "The Adam's family" for a play and I'm going to show this to my Theatre teacher to make cousin Its hand. 💚💚
that'd be rad! I reckon do the alginate hand cast + filled with silicone version to save $ and headaches. There's a good video on youtube on silicone painting a bit more simpler - th-cam.com/video/kPeTb-jqYkw/w-d-xo.html using just blush red, vein blue, and highlights and lowlights, and painted with a brush, so it can be achieved a bit more easily :) without airbrushes. I just like to make things more difficult for myself it it will give a more realistic result :P
Pinksyl seems to be kinda expensive... Let say I need to fully cast my body, both legs, both hands and chest (I am 180 cm tall male) How much of pinksyl I may need for this?
what kind of materiaal can you use if you want to make something that is abit more stitt or strong usable for stopmotion also sillicon or something else
I'm no expert, but I've used a product called InstaMorph to make armor before and it's great. It's moderately inexpensive and easy to use. It also hardens like plastic. I haven't used any other forms of making armor, but if you want to you can give it a try.
Yay, I'm so glad! I get worried that I try to put too much info in or lose my point sometimes, I'm glad there's at least one person out there making sense of it and absorbing it :D
I've taken finger casts of a friend who had long-ish nails, and they usually come out of the mould half torn off because the silicone isn't thick enough, so it looks like chipped nails, and i usually just trim down the silicone to a regular fingernail length, no problems :)

the hand with broken fingers isnt a waste! it can still be used as a prop a severed hand with missing fingers! ;)
Hahah so true, it also had an airbubble in it from me trying to roto cast it so see if that would leave a nice wrist-hole for the Christmas tree, but that could also be turned into some kind of wound :P

It's one of the youtube audio files - it's called Grass

You always do such high quality videos and your contribution to the SPFX world is greatly appreciated.
There is just no way that hand is fake. I don't believe this sorcery. You definitely cut off someone's hand. I cannot
Hhahaha
@@Freakmo hey love do you sale f
The hands I'm a nail tech and would love 1
When your single and need a picture of u holding your "baes" hand
this is so good. i wish i had the supplies to do ghus
Sfx Queen you do!! All you need is imagination!!!! jk lol u need expensive af shit to get anything that looks good

its so lovely to watch your skills develop, i swear you get more amazing with every video!
This would be great for a Jaime Lannister cosplay
Oh yeah, good call!
I think the first version of the hand looked good 😊 It was cool and realistic with missing fingers
Haha thank you, I like your glass-half full attitude :)

I'm into sfx makeup and I want to be a professional one day, but most things are way too expensive for me. 😰
I started out 5 years ago with latex and toilet paper, for most people it's a slow progression into more intermediate techniques and materials when you can easily accomplish the beginner things and want to advance yourself more, and when you can afford it. Hello, firstly thx for this video and I want to ask a question. How can I make a gloves seems like that? It should be wearable.

Have you tried using your compressor to blow air between the mold and cast while decasting? An inflator needle (for sports balls) might help.
I have heard of that actually, but never tried it, my air compressor is dying (it overheats really easily) so I'll need to get a new, stronger one and see what it can do

I think Frank Ipolitto (sp?) on Tested.com used an air compressor on some of his life casting videos.
Have you considered selling these for nail techs to practice doing acrylic and gel nails? I'd probably buy 1.
To use any colored flocking during your process Mixed in with the silicone?
SmoothOn is wonderful to work with! I used it for my first life cast and i didn't run into any problems with the way it turned out or anything!

Oh, of course haha fogot bout that

your vids are so detailed im in love with this...
can you please give me a link from where you bought the purple thing ...i cant find it on my country :(
thank you ,you are the best !!!
@Freakmo did you put equal parts deadener to the A silicon and then add the same amount of B? i just want to be sure so i don"t waste my money.
Hi! Looks great ☺️ for the fairy liquid & 99% alcohol release is it 50/50 and do you coat it and leave it for 45 mins to dry and repeat 3 times? Thanks in advance x
Exactly which type of silicone do I need to do this?
What kind of respirator do you use? There's so many types out there for different things, and I'm not quite sure which I should get...

EXTRAORDINARIO..!!!! SALUDOS DESDE SANTIAGO DE CHILE.!
it looks so realll! cool!
Eu amei o seu vídeo. Sabe me dizer se consigo encontrar esses materiais no Brasil? Qual o tipo de silicone que se usa para fazer a mão? Obrigado!

Out of curiosity how heavy is the silicone like how much does the cast weigh, also can the silicone come in a greyish white?
This looks frigging amazing!
Hi Freakmo, wich kind of ink do you use to paint your silicone prothesis with airbrush aerography?
Some people need a hand Like this good Job
Also, is there a problem using Platsil gel-10 with deadener in an alginate cast?
Just a tip when releaaing the mold feom the hand, use the compressed air in the mold and itll pop right off.
this is something i dont get but i have a hydrocal mold set to go of a head i plan to turn into a mask. Unbelievable realism. The thing that's really freaking me out is that the fake hand looks EXACTLY like my own hand in every way.
Thanks! I'll be using this for musical props!
Thank you this helped so much. In our school we are doing "The Adam's family" for a play and I'm going to show this to my Theatre teacher to make cousin Its hand. 💚💚

Hi!!! I love your videos!!!
You're so talented☺️
Thanks so much Riiya :D
Hi! Did you used a separator for Silicone and silicone-mold?
Freaking incredible.
Pinksyl seems to be kinda expensive...
Let say I need to fully cast my body, both legs, both hands and chest (I am 180 cm tall male)
How much of pinksyl I may need for this?
what kind of materiaal can you use if you want to make something that is abit more stitt or strong usable for stopmotion also sillicon or something else
How hard would it be to add hair to the back of hand?
How many times can you reuse this silicone mould?
Is there a reason why you had to use silicone as both the cast and the mold or would it be possible to use latex for one and silicone for the other?
Latex can cause silicone to not cure, so you never mix the two no matter what you’re doing.
are these hands for sale at all?? would like to purchase for tattoo practice 😎
Hello, nice job! Very inspiring :)
If I buy all these materials, how many hands can I make?
Regards,
Hello. great video and hand. can u please write down all materials what need only for hand.

Omg that was so amazing 👌😮😊 can't wait for part2.
Thank you!
Omg, that's so insane! Holy crap that's awesome
What is the material you put in hand?
just a tip: use a silicone thickener for this type of brush on mold
okay I know you don't use cap plastic in this but I live in the US and I can not find it anywhere!!
how much platsil gel is needed for casting a hand?
hey, you are so talented..
Can I do this process with a sculpt?
Great work i love your videos
Thanks Gabriel!
How did you make the fingernails?
Im planning to use 3D printer and a kinect to make a silicone face, but i do use plaster mold to make armor
I'm no expert, but I've used a product called InstaMorph to make armor before and it's great. It's moderately inexpensive and easy to use. It also hardens like plastic. I haven't used any other forms of making armor, but if you want to you can give it a try.
love your technique videos!
I'd just like to say that hand looks ohh so real it looks like a REAL chopped of hand I hope one day I hope I'll be good at fx
I want to give it a high five
yoshikage kira liked that
i learn so muth from you , thank you forn making these videos
Yay, I'm so glad! I get worried that I try to put too much info in or lose my point sometimes, I'm glad there's at least one person out there making sense of it and absorbing it :D
If you're doing a severed hand you could still use the first one. It would be like a severed hand with severed fingers
Could you do this if you had long/ acrylic nails? Or would the silicone not set prope l'y in between the nail and th skin?
I've taken finger casts of a friend who had long-ish nails, and they usually come out of the mould half torn off because the silicone isn't thick enough, so it looks like chipped nails, and i usually just trim down the silicone to a regular fingernail length, no problems :)
Freakmo alright thank you so much for replying :)
Why does this look delicious?
Where can i buy silicone?
do you think this could be tattooed?
How did you do the nails
When u have online exams tomorrow and u don't have any options left hehe
