This review is really appreciated. I was looking at getting a second Huawei phone following an earlier purchase made 2 years ago. I am especially grateful that highlighted the issues with side loading Google Play store. From what I saw in this video, I am glad you bought the phone so people like me don't have to buy it.
Huawei phones are awesome but without the google play, it's a big hit they took. I wanted to buy a p40 lite but it seems i'm gonna be frustrated with all those complications.
I think ima get a p30 instead with all the gps and stay comfortable.

i bought THE p40 lite and i got frustrated because i had to use my bank account with apps downloaded from unsafe stores i dont trust ! DONT BUY IT, ITS LOCKED AND HUAWEI DONT LET YOU UNLOCK BOOTLOADER SO NO CUSTOM FIRMWARE POSSIBLE, HUAWEI WONT UPGRADE IT AND ITS NOT SAFE TO USE IT. JUST DONT BUY IT .HUAWEI SUCKS
I feel as though you haven't given the phone and the Huawei ecosystem a chance. Some people are actually fine with not being on Google Play services and would like to see the phone reviewed with available offerings from Hauwei and the Amazon app Store versus a moan about how Google play services aren't available. We know. Get over it already there is life outside of the ecosystem.
Mate problem loads of people are having is not the fact they 'have to have google services per sé'. Problem is some apps are madatory to use in areas of living. I myself bought P40 Lite with the same idea as you, however the mandatory university app of the UU is not available on huawei. I can get it via some way on internet, but everytime it updates i cant use it till someone decides to put the newer version on internet. Also mobile banking and stuff from my bank is not supported on this. Some times, even though im not a google-fan, i need some applications Huawei just cant give me. So consider these things before typing a 'get over it' comment. The video is very useful and i wish i saw it before i bought my phone.
@@chrisvandergugten1753 You bring up valid points but preface that with 'in my region'. Where I stay Huawei has intergrated all local apps (banking, shopping, universities etc). Sure some international apps aren't on the store but there are local apps. So for me and people living my region of the world. Get over it and stop moaning

I don't understand why anyone would by a foreign phone with their OS, lack of Android apps (Google Apps) etc. Notice the first thing Huawei owners do is try to get the Google Playstore and Google services on their phone.
The only phone company I could go for it would be Samsung...I love all their own apps.
I bought the phone and it frustrating. I am frustrated. I love Huawei but I will not do this again.

As an American. Chinese phones just aren't feasible for me. Between these problems and the lack of us band support. There's no chance unfortunately.
Alexander Rahl Apple has a bigger problem as they are easy to hack its apple I tunes who confirm that too many cases have occurred and there is nothing they can do much about other than cancelling your card linked with I tunes

iPhone has good security generally and have regular security patches for 5 years. I have experienced zero problems.
You can use Google photos via the browser and upload manually- it's not rocket science. Huawei is not for the lazy user - stick to IOS, if that's the expectation your looking for.
Without play store they are shiite why jump through hoops when you don't have to you can get a similar spec motorola with none of these issues.

TH-cam is the big one. If they can get a good replacement for that, and it is about time we had an alternative anyway, I wouldn't miss anything from Google. Longer term I think this is going to impact google.

My phone should be coming soon. I use outlook, Twitter, TH-cam, when not using a browser. Looking at what apps can be downloaded from Amazon my apps can be satisfied or a browsrs workaround is fine for my use.
I'm using this phone to this day. There are plenty of ways to get all the google apps work now. You can use gspace, gbox, microG service to get it done. (a simple work which takes 2-3min).
About the phone, this phone works without any lags. Emui 12 is the last update. Camara quality is acceptable. But the video quality is average(no OIS/EIS).
Battery life is good but its lasting lesser than before.
But the 40W supercharge is working fine.(more than 50% in 30min) Overall I'm pretty happy with this device. :-)

Has the Google ban on Huawei phones happened in the UK? I'm writing this on my Huawei P20 Lite and im thinking buying a P40 Lite but all the articles I've read suggest the ban has occurred in the US.
Google ban refers on every country as I recall reading.. They completely cut of Huawei from their services

It wasn't Huawei's fault... America aka. Google didn't want to do business with them anymore so they needed to improve their Huawei services so they can be at least bearable in comparison of Google

This video is just attempts in trying to get Google apps, instead you should have tried the Huawei apps. I see there are for almost all google apps alternative apps that are made by Huawei. Gmail can be used through an email app from Huawei, TH-cam has Vanced, Google maps also have alternatives that are not the same but you can still use the navigation. Instead of Google photos or drive you can find another similar cloud which you can use on Huawei (but you can still access google clouds from the search). Even the main apps like fb, Instagram, messenger are all available if not in the store then through the search.
To be honest I was afraid when I found out that the phone I choose to buy doesn't have google, but when you search what it means, it's actually not scary at all. Huawei is also trying everyday to update their store with a lot more apps so they are adding more and more each day. The phone seems as one of the the best ones at the moment, I can't wait to get it.

I have run all google apps and play store on p40 lite.. just don't upgrade to version 11 or downgrade to 10 if you have!!!!!
EDIT: A year later and the release of the Google killer Harmoney os seem the ban backfired! it is projected that before end of the year more than 400 000 000 users will abandon android for new harmony os. Multiple phone brands (ones important in 2 largest phone markets china and india) will also release harmony os phones !

I wanted this phone but I forgot about the Google ban..I like Google applications on my devices ..So may stick with Samsung. The main reason why I wanted P40 lite was for cameras, better then Samsung's A series

@@mr.b501 I definitely agree on keeping the Samsung phone for now, but keep in mind that you can still access Google`s services through the browser (TH-cam, Gmail, Google Maps, ...). You only skimp on the Google Play Store and Google accounts, which, on P40 and later versions, you cannot use with many games that require you signing in with Google.
What's about what's app ?
Whatsapp you can download it from the official site just go to your browser search whatsapp go to the official site and get it.
I've got the Huawei p40 and love the fact that it has no Google services at all!!! P40 phone is better now and I'm just glad Google isn't on it. Google services are spying on your every move every search and they know where you go to every day.
OK I miss some Google apps but Huawei will get better at there app store through time!
Most Web sites has Google cookies so they can track you what your searching and Google ads are every where.
I bet the USA government are using Google services to monitor everybody these days.
Hope Google never comes back on Huawei phones again as that makes me happy!

As fo the phone, once you renounce google framework and rely on non-google app stores(I prefer aptoide) you'll be fine. And you might want a 3rd party browser if you want to keep using google's webpages. Opera did the job for me.

I got TH-cam Vanced pre-installed on my phone.. Isn't that same in everybody? I don't have any issues about not having Google except that I can't login my Google accounts on games or even start them, I don't get why is that a thing... Couldn't it login me through browser or something

@chris andrien Channel well, you can still use TH-cam Vanced, Hulu, and maps go. You can get everything on Huawei phones (if you request) except some Google Services, watch watch MrWho'sTheBoss's video on this topic. the thing that you should be worried about is getting cellular service, but there are some was around that. After that, you wont really have any troubles except for oH nOoO!!111 cHiNa IS tRaCkInG mE DoWn11! Well, Google now can't so you don't have that to worry about. And China does not really care about people outside of China if they are tracking you. Keyword is if.

This is the best phone I've ever had. Smokes anything Samsung, Google, or Apple has to offer ... for about 1/3 of the price.

Don't worry, I have this same device. It's not really hard for me to use because I've learned how install Google apps from a tutorial. Also I have my old Mate SE (which is an international version of the Honor 7X), which includes Google Services. 😉👌🏾

I've gone for the P30 Lite, purely on the basis that I like the convenience of Google Play and also because the phone has a jack. I'm hoping that President Trump will come to his senses, as China, (where iPhones are produced), could make life very difficult for Apple & other US companies, which have production facilities in the country. From what I've read, Google wants the ban lifted. But I think that with Covi-19 having spread around the world, President Trump won't be lifting the ban.

i bought the ptube40 pro amazing phone not bothered about TH-cam app biggest downer i cant get my mobile bank app they only provide it on the app store and apple and mac not to pleased with my bank not allowing it on Huawei app store they said due to security issues they dont provide it to Huawei devices funny thing is the phone i had was the Huawei p20 and it worked fine on that phone.

not true :D no need for google services actually i feel more secure without it and i got all functions my old samsung s7 edge had. p40 lite has more ram with better camera more battery life fast working and cheaper parts if i brake the screen or have to change the batery so no need for google services still have navigation still have youtube and can stream it to my tv still running instagram natively by app and any other thing can be reached with browser i dont need battery drain apps that record my location and other things without my permission so great phone so far ;)
