  • I could leave my quarantine and actually see Canada for the first time. I did 80.000 steps in 4 days and explored the downtown area of Vancouver.
Beside that I took care of all organizational things. Everyone who starts a work&travel year need to organize the following things:
    - Canadian SIM-Card
many places want to be called or call you so you should have a Canadian cell phone number. Be prepared for high costs for your mobile plan at least I pay twice as much as for my mobile plan in Germany. Have in mind that you sometimes even need to pay for every minute you receive a phone call. I decided for a prepaid plan from Koodo. (*not sponsored)
    - Bank Account
In order to receive a salary for your job you need to open a bank account. It is also nice to have a Canadian Debit/Credit Card as a backup in case your foreign card is not accepted. I chose the CIBC because they offered a one-year free account for people who are new in Canada. (*not sponsored)
    - SIN
A social insurance number is necessary for a job. Your employer will ask for it. It is a unique number for you that you should keep beside from your employer secret and not give it to anybody. Usually, it is valid as long as your visa
    - Driver’s license
I read that you need to exchange your driver’s license to a Canadian one when you will live in BC for more than 90 days. You should also get cheaper insurance if you buy a car. I don’t know if this was really necessary for me because so far, I don’t plan to buy a car however my German drivers license was already pretty worn out, so I needed to get it renewed anyway in the near future.
    - Cash
You can exchange cash in many places in Vancouver. Have a close look on the rates. I got the best in a small shop next to the metrotown mall, but you don’t need much cash since you can pay everywhere with credit card.

You can see the snow covered mountain peaks from the beach and the downtown office buildings. Vancouver is a great place.
