I'm from Brazil, Rio. Lived in Vancouver in 2009 for almost one year and i have to say that i just loved . I'ts terrible to see that the number of drug addicts has increased dramatically , but i still want to revisit the city . Thanks for this video !
Solid video, bro. I've lived in Vancouver for most of my life but also lived temporarily in places like NYC, Dallas, Stockholm, Zurich and completely agree with your commentary. Especially the dating scene... Keep up the good work.
Hey! As another former Winnipegger whose been in Vancouver for almost 2 years (this video must have been made for me), you nailed it ! Despite all the many issues in this city I’m still really enjoying it and in awe of the natural beauty. Definitely not minding the mild winters here compared to the -40 in Winnipeg. Great content. Cheers!
Thank you so much Robert, maybe somebody can see this video and it'll help or maybe that's wishful thinking :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
@@trav4oilers you’re welcome. Sadly Vancouverites will continue to vote for policies that continue to make the problems of the city worse. I don’t even really see it through a left/right lens anymore…I see it through the lens of “if something doesn’t work or is making it worse, change course…critically think…move on”. Clearly things aren’t working and to my friends on the left, I ask them if allowing lawlessness, crime and people dying on the streets is compassionate? We wouldn’t bring a bottle of taxpayer funded whiskey to an AA meeting, why would we bring taxpayer funded drugs to addicts so they can literally use it as currency? Your videos are great. Keep up the good work. Thanks for speaking your mind and doing so in a thoughtful and intelligent way.

Hey Trav Born and raised in Saskatoon and been in the Lower Mainland, including Vancouver, for over 30 years. Many Saskatonies moved to Alberta, but I am aware of many people from Saskatchewan living in B.C. Yes, Vancouver is very expensive, but other parts of Canada are experiencing the same issues as we are. I have worked across the street from where you filmed the group of street people in the downtown east side with the homeless, drugged addicted people and see it's just getting worse no matter how much supportive housing and supports we give them it's never enough and the healthcare system is failing everybody all across Canada. Like the comments have stated, it's probably better to go to a less expensive area of Canada if you want to start and raise a family. But as I stated earlier, even places like Saskatoon or Quebec and even the Maritimes have pros and cons when it comes to raising a family. (Rents, housing, access to healthcare and even the weather) Thanks for the video and I appreciate the one you did on Saskatoon's hotel Bessborough that was one of my favorites. People can disagree but the Lower Mainland used to more friendly, Now if you say hello these days you either get told off or get a look. Used to be more friendlier and the traffic and transit are some of the on-going issues that I face. I take public transit and it isn't as good as it could be especially in the Surrey-Langley area.
I'm def leaning back towards Winnipeg. Calgary is an opttion too. Maybe staaying in vancouver too but we will see. Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)
@@trav4oilers Speaking as a former local "Vancouverite" of many decades, (1980's), it's obvious it needs to change, nimbyism plays a part in the multiple problems, but I still consider myself lucky to be still living...in Metro Vancouver.
Thanks for an honest assessment of Vancouver Trav. I was born and raised in BC, and have lived in three different areas of the province, although the majority has been in the Surrey area. Yes we have a homeless and drug problem, I have lost two family members to drug issues. Our politicians know what they need to do to fix the problems, butt they either don't have the balls or are too busy fighting over what police force we are going to use. Still I am proud of my country and my province, and you just need to look south of the border to see how lucky we are.
They know they need to fix it but only address it in easy fix ways that make them win politcal points. Such a shame, Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)
Was on tour and had to be on van duty to make sure no one tried to break in. Sure enough had to scare off some fk from trying to break into another bands bus
I should also say, there is a trade off with living in Vancouver. Yes rental rates are higher but what never is mentioned is how in Vancouver a person saves an immense amount of money not having to rely on a vehicle to drive everywhere. In other provinces, Saskatchewan and Manitoba for instance and the majority of Alberta as well, public transit is terrible, bus service is terrible, so if you take a cab to get around, you have to spend maybe $25 to $30 each way, so if you're doing that to get to work 5 days a week, that's around $150/wk, around $500/month for cab fare. Driving your own vehicle because everything is so far apart in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta cities, it's at least $50-$100/wk on gas, so that's around $200-$300/month on gas. In Vancouver with transit a person can get a day pass on buses, skytrain, etc for $11 and you can get anywhere in Metro Vancouver with that pass. Take the train, switch to the bus, back and forth and it's only $11/day. And that's if you don't opt for a monthly pass which works out to even less than that per day. So say in Calgary or Saskatoon or Winnipeg for instance you're rent is around $1400-$1500/month, what you pay to travel and commute and get everywhere is several hundred dollars a month. Works out to be about $2000-$2100/month for rent and travel. Then in Vancouver instead of the hundreds of dollars on travel expenses, that amount is going to rent that is a bit higher but everything is accessible with better and cheaper methods of transit. And just a side mention, in conservative provinces it seems it's deliberately done how everything is so far apart and funding isn't properly spent on transit infrastructure because they want to keep people dependent on vehicles.
Yes of course but having public transit thats awesome doesn't balance out how expensive everything else is, the homeless and drug crisis. It's the opposite lol
Hard disagree on Vancouver having the best public transit system in NA. The skytrain alone is pale in comparison to the Montreal subway. Our buses, suburban trains and now the REM light rail make for a much more comprehensive network than Vancouver's.
Trav, as usual, great content. Thank you! I just returned from our Amtrak trip to D.C. via Toledo. Trav, Amtrak has a long way to go to catch what I've seen of Canadian rail. I did feel that parts of the trip were worth our time, but sleeping wise, not so much. I'm 6'1" and felt challenged by the room, so being 6'5" yeah, can't imagine the concerns. Anyway, survived, back, and watching all things Trav related. Thanks again!
Thank you so much my friend. I def want to hop on an amtrak one day! Trains are not made for big men! You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
I lived in Vancouver for about a year in 2007, also in Yaletown (Homer and Davie). Back then my rent on a 500 sq ft 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment was $1,800; still pretty pricey for the time. I have to agree with pretty much everything you've concluded: Amazing views, great walkability, no shortage of outdoor things to do - but also no culture (it felt 'hollow' if that makes any sense), a challenging dating scene and an out of control homeless/drug population. It wasn't as bad in 2007 with the exception of the downtown east side, which has been a mess for at least a generation, but when I was back in Vancouver earlier this year, I could tell it was so much worse. Glad I lived there and am happy for the experience, but wouldn't live there today
Great video, this sums up vancouver in a nut shell. I myself am planning to move from vancouver after being here for 2 years. Which cities are you thinking of moving to?
I was born in Ontario, but grew up in West Van, and lived my entire adult life in Vancouver (West End and West Side). After my folks passed away, I moved to Quebec (bought a house on the St Lawrence River for less than half of a one bedroom condo in Van). Vancouver for me now, is too crowded, too expensive and too stressed out for a peaceful life. IMO Van has become more of an Asian city than a Canadian city -- too much stress, noise, too many people and cars, traffic. I lived there for 4 decades when it was really amazing. Truly. Now - everything is about $$$$$$, so not interesting anymore. Yes, the mountains and the ocean are still there, but it is just not the same. Just my opinion!
Great video. Keep speaking your mind and never change for anyone. Was curious how your transition was going to unravel, but the Canada content is nice. Retired Canadian hockey player now living the American dream down south.
Will do my friend, thanks for the kind words. I'lm still playing this season. Excited to share that with you soon, where did you play? Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)
You know that those gas taxes help pay for that transit which is why we have the best, and that the carbon taxes are to get people to drive less and include rebates for middle and low income people to at offset it. Also did you know you can get a 2021 Nissan leaf electric for 25k and don’t have to pay tax on it and can get rebates for installing a charger.
Liberal, conservative, I don't care. I would vote for whoever cleans up the homeless situation. Unfortunately both parties promise they're the one who's going to fix the economy but neither one seems able to do it.
I travelled to Vancouver from London in October 2023 for two weeks and had a great time. I agree with what you said about having a car in vancouver downtown and found ubering around cheaper and more convenient than renting a car. I only wish I saw this video before I went as those doughnuts looked great!.... Maybe next time XD
Lower Mainland is beautiful but minions like me with huge eyebags have double jobs in order to pay bills, rent or mortgage. The common folks work so much they don't have time to enjoy the place. I took the bus and Skytrain for nine years going to work and hardly saw anyone looking at the scenery. Just glum people heading to work still tired from the previous day.
Great video Trav! I will say as a city bus driver here most people are pretty friendly, I say hi to everyone that boards my bus and give a friendly good morning to them and I honestly always get a smile and a good morning back. I will completely agree the drug/homeless issue is ridiculous, people that ride my bus shouldn’t have to worry about someone lighting up a crack pipe while taking public transit! Sent you email after I yelled at you out the bus about the time, about going for lunch don’t know if you saw it
my friend thank you so much for watching. I responded back to your email did I not? Worst case send me another email. You stopping me that day put a smile on my face and made my day. Appreciate you. You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
Great Video. Enjoy your "Toronto" accent. Agree about not owning a car. Moved to the West End in 1975, gave my car to dad who was living in the snowy north. Walk everywhere. Shopping, hospital, doctor, dentist and hospital within a few blocks. As far as the "socialist" NDP (founded by my distant cousin) they have made my life affordable. Retired, I get prescriptions for next to nothing, health care program is free, and I get a monthly rent subsidy (yearly increases are low, regulated). Yes, food is expensive across Canada. Huge country, small poulation. If one is a sensible shopper you can eat well, even on a pension. I see young, employed couples in my building wasting hundreds of dollars on delivered meals. Yes, once in awhile is enjoyable, but between this expense and smoking, they could be saving up a down payment for a condo. Depends what you mean by "culture". We have a long established symphony, ballet, choirs, etc. An opera house was a very early building. Our library is spectacular. Several theatres for live concerts and Broadway shows. Small bars attract established entertainers. If your entertainment is the bar scene, walk along Granville Mall. Something for everyone. I, too, can spend a long afternoon on the Seawall, stopping for a burger or fish and chips. Yes, the homeless have become a bigger problem recently. They are now in "nice" neighbourhoods. Meaning "our" neighbourhoods. Need to reopen the mental hospital for the very sick and provide more drug treatment. All levels of government are responsible! Keep on enjoying!
In North Vancouver. It's all the same shit. Maybe more family friendly in North Van but traffic and price of goods plus the abject-Liberalism is too much to bear
I just saw that Vancouver created the first ‘indoor supervised inhalation room’. The best health care in BC goes to the drug addicts. If you have cancer and need treatment, get in line. Hard to wrap your head around that
I feel the problem with homelessness is even tho they removed 'tent city' they did not fix the issue, I've seen some down to in Richmond or even Nelson Park while they could do something much better giving them a place to actually get clean.
I love Vancouver. Moved from Toronto to Calgary 6 years ago and been going to Vancouver at least four times a year since 2019. Even bought a condo for retirement :) Other than the terrible traffic in Vancouver metro which is now as bad as in Toronto, it's the best place to live second to Calgary :)
Thanks for your video! Not a fan of politics, but I remember your frustration well. The first part was pure nostalgia, as I lived near English Bay. I moved to Vancouver Island about ten years ago after accepting I'd never, ever own anything. My friends forced to move further and further from downtown, like Abbotsford and Maple Ridge. Maybe it was the era or generational, but it seemed like everyone wanted to pretend they were rich too. Even people I loved were pretentious. Nice cars and clothes, heavy debt and living paycheque to paycheque trying to fit in. From P.A. Sask, I can relate to a lot. It was a great experience to be in Vancouver when I was younger, but everything started to take a toll and day-to-day problems seemed bigger and bigger over time (maybe like in any relationship). I miss it a lot sometimes, but Victoria has a lot of the things I liked in Vancouver (just smaller scale) plus easier to meet people and more affordable housing. Miss those cheaper places to eat though and it could use more culture :/
I'm not either but when you see the things happening, everything is driven by politics. It's frustrating but the way it is. Thanks for watching Shanon, hope you get a chance to check out my other vancouver videos!
Thank you for a frank discussion of Vancouver. I am a citizen of US and considering moving to Canada for at least part of the year. I am a senior and financially secure. What is your opinion of life for seniors in Canada? Thank you
Hi, just visited the city and BC recently in September. Even for a short visit, it is possible to see and compare, what you post in the video. The city has got nice places and feeling safe was for sure a benefit. I stayed at Robson Street, this was the right choice. Vancouver is a modern city, but with the old bits too. Certainly different from Europe, but something feels like the 'Old Continent' too - the cafés, old houses, Stanley Park, Coal Harbour, the beaches... So were my feelings. The city also brings more contrasts. The Downtown is an example. Posh and expensive west and sadly a bit neglected China Town and problematic East Side dividing Gastown into the top place to see and the area going on further. This is a pity, as the old buildings in the East Side could be a bit to explore from the past times of the city. Living in the city is for those with a good income, for new starters it must be hard to find something reasonable. Visiting is not a low budget, especially the accommodation - maybe it to be compared to Scandinavian countries in Europe. Food and restaurants could be reasonable - many different types of food and styles don't need to be extremely expensive. Visiting is beauty, same the surroundings and Vancouver Island, so I would recommend holidays there, if the budget is enough for that.
I have been Vancouver for many times. I live in Calgary , easy to come to Vancouver . The fresh air in Vancouver, beautiful ocean , mountain, mild weather , fresh seafoods that Calgary cannot compare with. In summer , we can enjoy winery and fresh u pick fruits in BC that Calgary cannot compare with. Only Vancouver is way more expensive than Calgary . I need to save more money to move.
Hey Trav! Stumbled upon another one of your awesome videos while making my way through your railway hotel series which are so good by the way! I go to Vancouver maybe five times a year to visit my extended family but haven’t really lived there. I appreciate your input about the city. You should try out Mello donuts if you get the chance. They are my favourite donut joint in Vancouver. I’ll try out Honey donuts next time also when I’m down there again to compare lol.
40 CAD isn't even that much for six to eight hours of parking. Here in Switzerland you'd look at more money in bigger cities like Zurich, Geneva and Bern.
You can get 10-15 in winnipeg no problem for all day parking. Maybe it's all about perspective! Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)

You missed The Hullo Ferry option to And from Vancouver island and Vancouver! Takes you right from downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo! It’s little more than the ferry, but your there in 1 hour like 10 mins!
Hey Trav! I also moved to Vancouver from Winnipeg roughly a year and a half ago to pursue a career in film. So far Ive loved Vancouver and I have been able to find work in the city, but ultimately my goal is to gain experince and network to be able to move back to Winnipeg and work in film back in Friendly Manitoba!
hey twinning! What area are you in? Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
Great video! when you mentioned the steam clock I couldn’t stop laughing though. Also, public transit is only good in the city of Vancouver, not the metro region. But even in Vancouver, the entire west side of the city doesn’t have a subway line as of right now. I would argue that NYC subway is much better as it covers a way larger portion of an insanely large city.
I agree with all of that, they seem to be building towards the west side. hope it continues, thank you for watching and Have you got a chance to watch my other videos?
Over immigration is certainly a problem. A correction though. As per Stats Canada's "Real Time Population Clock , Canada's population is currently just over 41.67 million. 30 million was Canada's population in 1997... 27 years ago.
Yeah, you’d think if you were making a video referencing Canada’s population you would take the five seconds to google it and not share a number that’s more than 25 years out of date. And he’s actually right about immigration being too high recently, but all the other dumbass takes undermine any of the valid things he has to say.
Thank you for the correction my friend. Regardless the immigration is a massive problem. Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
Great video! I went to Whistler for mountain biking stayed in Squamish few days! Then drove back tour my mom around in Vancouver stop by the Richmond Olympic training center no ice 😂 Stanley park is my favorite and walked around the Vancouver Canucks arena love the landscape mountains there!
Oympic oval is beautiful facility, I love training there. Hope you and your mom had a great trip! Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
This is the perfect breakdown of the pros and cons of Vancouver and as a Chrstian I fully agree with all your statements about the problems with Vancouver
Great video. The games these politicians play is ridiculous. We need to deal with Canadas homelessness and drug problems humanly but also strictly. Get back to going out feeling safe and friendly
Just praying the left junk exits stage left and finally can be solved. Such a beautiful city. It's sad you can't go downtown and feel safe. Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)
Canada has reached a new population threshold of 41 million people on Wednesday, according to Statistics Canada. The agency says the population grew by 3.2 per cent in 2023 - its fastest population growth in more than six decades - Mar 28, 2024

A great city definitely, just way out of my price range. Glad you could still find a decent apartment, keep it for now ! I'll have to agree that homeless people can somehow ruin the scenery unfortunately. I mean they are human beings just like you and me, with different background stories... Let's just say the whole drug situation is beyond ridiculous. As always, thanks for sharing your experience buddy, stay safe Trav !
Calgarian here, i always found Vancouver to have the coldest people in this country. Nice place to visit for the natural beauty but that's about it. Crime is too high there as well, not uncommon for your house or car to be broken into 2 or 3 times a year. As for moving to Calgary, you might have missed out, sadly things aren't exactly cheap here anymore, good luck finding a nice 1 bedroom downtown for 1200
Dude, strip out house prices and stats Canada has indicated that Calgary is more expensive than Vancouver. Do you think Calgary is some third world city or something or you just like talking garbage to make yourself feel better that you earn some minimum wage job living on the coast.
I make these videos and my podcast. That's my full time income! Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)
Pros and cons, the cost of living in Vancouver and the thought of trying to make a go of it raising a family? Also the possibly of having a cottage and a beautiful home with a nice yard seem pretty unattainable out there, as well. It is beautiful though.
Those are big goals but how do you afford that is the million dollar question. Pun intended. Have you had a chance to check out the other episodes in my railway hotel series in Vancouver? I'd love to hear what you think :)
Wow I moved here from Winnipeg too. Not only that, I live by the opposite ramp on Seymour. I pass by there for my morning coffee at Tim Hortons most days! 😄
nice! When did you move from winnipeg and where were you before? I don't go to tim hortons often but def walk by that spot a lot! Have you got a chance to watch my other videos?
Hey Trav, love the video, I would love to connect with you one on one about your experience in Vancouver. On your topic about the homeless issue. The BC government, and mostly Bonnie Henry, de-criminalized drugs to help with the issue. WHAT A STUPID THING TO DO! I agree with you saying that you either get help or they get arrested for trespassing. Im currently living in Victoria, the homeless issue here is getting so out of control here, and the city is just letting it happen. The downtown area of both Vancouver and Victoria have turned into war zones. They aer putting up safe injection sites all over the city, next to playgrounds, next to schools, and for what, the potential of a kid ODing. "GREAT JOB CITY". I think the way to fix this is, crack down HARD on drug users, no more allowing them to smoke crack, meth, and what ever godly drugs they are taking infant of businesses. I used to love going to Vancouver for hockey games, dinners, and a fun night out, now I dont even want to think about it. I dont really wanna get stabbed by a crack head. The drug issue and homeless issue has gotten so out of hand, and it's getting to the point of no return and the cities are letting the crack heads run the city. IT NEEDS TO CHANGE!
Hey man, you can always send me a insta message! thanks again for watching. Hope you get a chance to check out my railway hotels episode on the hotel vancouver sharing some of the cities coolest stories :)
DTES problems have existed for decades. The only time there was marked improvement was when people were moved out during the Olympics, which then exasperated and put pressure on every other town in BC outside the LM. There is no level of government or political party willing to tackle the core issues because it will not be politically popular in one way or another.
I thankfully get transit service cheaper in vancouver yearly compass pass bc government gives to people on welfare and income assistance for 52 dollars month i enjoy being able to go all way to langley white rock or surrey if i need to
lucky to get the discount. Thanks for watching my friend, you should check out the other episodes in my railway hotel series across canada covering the story of our country, the passenger service that no longer exists and how the railway hotels built it!
Can you blame that Toronto actually has space to build and only reason it’s overpriced is because Vancouver is very small compared to Toronto, hence there’s limited space. Love Vancouver been there a couple times but it’s a dated city and gas town isn’t all great and let’s not forget all the homeless , makes Toronto look like there isn’t any homeless
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is definitely not NDP nor anything even closely resembling them. He's center right and very pro-development and law enforcement.
same results, if he's done something helpful show me and I'll change my opinion. Until then, not impressed. thanks for watching. have you seen my other videos?
@@trav4oilers No I haven't seen your other videos and I only clicked on this one because it was about the city I've lived in for 40 years. I know the history here and the evolution of the current problem, which you find in most cities of a certain size. The big difference is that here it's all concentrated in one area and if there was an easy answer then something would've been done decades ago. You're comments on immigrants is also partially inaccurate since many are not looking for entry level jobs and are very well off - which is why we exprienced a huge increase in housing prices in the 90's. The reason we have immigration for entry level jobs is that Canadians are not filling them, especially in the building trades. I know contractors who are struggling to find employees at all levels. As for the addicts and homeless if you look closely you'll see that they are rarely immigrants but born and bred Canadians who are from all over BC and the rest of Canada, including Manitoba. In Vancouver you don't freeze to death outside in the winter like you do in the rest of Canada. It's a very complex situation and merely increasing the police force, as Sims did, is only a superficial solution. You've only lived here two years so I wouldn't expect you know a lot of this.
yo as a guy was was born in Winnipeg who moved to Vancouver in 2018 to moving back to Winnipeg Vancouver is sooo beautiful but cost so much my family was going paycheck to paycheck just to live in a 4 bedroom house that was 3k i love both so much but if you got money live in Vancouver lol but you video is amazing and shows the ugly truth about Vancouver
I have a manitoba drivers license still. I need a BC license to get one but I think that's on the table next summer. thanks for watching though, You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver :)
hey that's why its title my honest experience. Not many videos like that online. Thanks for watching. You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver :)
I agree with mostly everything. I would say that people in Vancouver people are in most part very nice, but not friendly. Vancouver has very little culture and is a city without a soul. Apart from the First Nations culture that feels more like marketing or souvenirs than a deeply rooted culture. It rains a lot, but coming from the east, the rain here is more than anything just drizzle and you can easily take a walk without the fear of getting drenched. Homelessness is an issue in all big cities and it's rather hopeless when you're dealing with addicts and mentally ill people. The city has been trying different approaches for over 50 years and not much has changed. I was in Montreal all last year and they have the same issues with the same failures. Is Vancouver worth it? For me, absolutely. But I have the privilege of decades of equity building. I would not recommend Vancouver as a startup city for young people like you. Go to a cheaper city, buy a not so desirable property with good bones in a desirable neighbourhood and improve the esthetic to make it more sellable and build equity. Then you might think about returning to Vancouver. Vancouver is great, but far from perfect.
Hey thank you so much Rich! I agreed a lot of Canadian culture now a days is only there for social brownie points, far from perfect city but def beautiful! Have you got a chance to watch my other videos?
You should have had pointed that the homelessness is concentrated on only one street. From gastown, chinatown. all the way up to stanley park. you shouldn't encounter homelessness. I'd say while I visit the downtown, I usually witness around 3 noticable crackheads in a good 4 hours.
No, it's a lot of it there but the st pauls hospital on the west end, it's everywhere you go. Thanks for watching my friend, you should check out the other episodes in my railway hotel series across canada covering the story of our country, the passenger service that no longer exists and how the railway hotels built it!
@@trav4oilers oh I usually go around Robson, Canada place, and the areas around the museum. I don’t encounter homelessness there. Maybe the few times I go I just go into the so called “popular areas” that’s probably why I don’t see some I guess
I wish I had a bike to cycle down there. Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
The Lions Gate Bridge absolutely does NOT count as the seawall unfortunately. I'm a local. Its a bridge and not a wall lol. Also, where were you in June 2022? It rained every single day here as I kept track because of a friend's wedding that was supposed to be outdoors. Not sure your calculations about the rain are correct but I guess it depends on exactly what part of Vancouver. Some area's get more rain that central Vancouver. Love the content though man. I agree about the people as well... I find it almost impossible to meet new people. Also laughed out loud at the Cactus Club comment as I once dated a girl from that location. LOL.
Love Vancouver, I live in Kelowna and enjoy visiting there to catch a nucks game. If your ever out this way hmu, also a fellow tendy that doesn’t drink 😂
Saying that Ken Sim is the "NDP Mayor" of Vancouver is incredibly uneducated considering he ran to the right of an actual former NDP MP (Kennedy Stewart) in 2018 and 2022...
I've been paying attention to what I've seen and the guy spends more time talking about the problem and putting a gym in his office than fixing the problems. If I'm wrong please show me and I'm happy to see it for what it is. Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
Anyone who sits around attacking everything about Vancouver has never lived in other provinces. Other provinces and cities are where the real problems are. Saskatchewan and Alberta have the highest crime rates in Canada, statistics prove this. Conservatives in both provinces don't address homelessness or addiction properly or adequately. Conservatives keep minimum wage at the lowest rates in the country in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Conservatives in Alberta haven't increased minimum wage once since becoming the majority government in 2019. In Saskatchewan, the conservatives there don't do anything to help Aboriginal people, in every major Saskatchewan city, Aboriginal people make up between 90-99% of the homeless people. Conservatives block every single chance for progress in Saskatchewan, they're given billions of dollars by federal government but still complain and lie about "federal government not doing anything for prairie provinces". Ontario is no better with its Conservative Govermment either. Nor is New Brunswick, its another province with one of the lowest minimum wages in Canada. Manitoba recently wisened up and they voted out conservatives after years of poor leadership and instead voted in NDP. Saskatchewan is getting tired of conservatives as well and undecided voters are leaning towards NDP. Danielle Smith right now is ruining Alberta. Trying to block federal funds being given directly to municipalities for infrastructure and blocking green projects, she recently cost the province over $50B in renewable energy agreements. Conservatives are the ones making things harder for Canadians.
thanks for watching, are you open to my response or pretty sold on how you see things? You don't stirke me as somebody whos interested in the other side
You can just say that you're conservative. Could have saved me the video when bashing the government with "facts" that either aren't true or misinformed. Btw, Vanoucver has one of, if not the, cleanest air and water for a major city in North America. That's in part due to the "climate change taxes" that Vancouverites pay. Also, NYC has the best transit in North Americca and it's not even close, not Vancouver lol.
Moved to Van from Saskatoon in 96. My condo that I bought 13 years ago has doubled in value….can’t complain. I used to live in an apartment at English Bay with views of the beach for 940 a month LOL…..not anymore. Retiring early in a couple of years. Will finally have more time for kayaking, biking and motorcycling. Expensive but would never move back to Saskatoon as much as I enjoyed it growing up.
Yup, the real estate in this city had been devoured by Chinese money since then. Housing crisis has been going nuts for yaers and I don't see this chaning anytime soon.

Sucks to see the homeless situation but its not as easy as "fixing it" These people do need help and i dont agree that giving them safe supply is helping. More treatment for truama and mental health would go a long way. Unfortunately the government plays the blame game too often with eachother. That being said sympathy goes a long way. Part of the problem is most people say they want to see change or want things to get fixed up but they've never talked to a homeless person in their life and do nothing to help.
Sympathy is reason we are in the mess to begin with. At some point you need tough love to fix the problem but I don't know who or when somebody will do that. Hope you enjoyed the video
@trav4oilers I'm not sure sympathy is the reason though. I don't think these peoples truamas or mental health had started because of sympathy. These people need help to get to the root of their problems. Free drugs or not doesn't matter. It's alot deeper. Not an easy fix unfortunately and shipping them off isn't helping.
Great video. As a life long NYer, seems like we're having the same problems as Vancouver and just about every other major N. American city. Drugs, crime and mass infux of dirt poor low skilled foreign nationals stressing everything from schools, hospitals and to housing. Back in the day you always had forms of liberalism but current day left wing politicians have gone off the cliff. Not sure why but it's putting N. America in jeopardy. Every city will eventually look like Beijing, meaning millions of people living on top of each other in high rises up in the sky.
It's so sad what they've done to such a beautiful city. I hope they can fix it and thanks for watching. Have you had a chance to check out the other episodes in my railway hotel series in Vancouver? I'd love to hear what you think :)

FYI Ken Sim in Conservative & you lost me with the socialist stuff - a big reason the gas is more expensive relates to 18.5 cents per litre going to help fund the transit system & some road work that TRANSLINK handles in METRO Van .
Sound like you will vote conservative this Oct , go for it . But I tell you insurance, utilities and property tax is much cheaper in Vancouver compared to Alberta.
Long as the homeless / drug problem goes away and groceries / rent become more affordable. I'll vote Cons all day. Love calgary btw, one of my prairie favourites
Don’t get me wrong. Look at the history of Vancouver 100 years ago and the shantytown which was right where St Paul’s Hospital new building site is. Men hopped on trains and came west and the province and feds left the mayor to feed them. One make work project? The Peace Arch. You’re too young to see the bigger macroscopic and macroeconomic issues which led us to where we are now. I’m BC born and bred from Victoria and I have lived up and down the coast into California and travelled fairly extensively for work. I remind you the Conservatives housing minister was guess who? Their housing plan served up a big shortage. It’s a multilevel government problem just like…USA. Real estate hedge funds were left to proliferate. Then we had money laundering because? Interest rates were low and EVERYONE from around the world (you know the rest)
You know I’ve been a fan for a while, and I hate people who say stick to sports or stick to hockey. This is your channel. Talk about whatever the hell you want! That being said, I don’t love this political bent you’re starting to go on. You do what you need to do to get yourself views and to get paid. But you might lose some of your audience. But on the plus side some right wing hard cores might flock to channel and boost views. Blame the immigrants is going to attract a certain crowd, if that’s what you want go for it homie. Also to make very very contentious statements like they’re giving free cocaine from ice cream trucks? Come on man don’t spread falsehoods that you can’t back up. Be better than that.
Appreciate you as always man, I think the world is polarized with liberal vs conservative, left vs right. The stuff I mentioned here was common sense. No need for drugs and lunacy in the streets. I had a lot more political stuff scheduled in the video but ended up chopping 3/4 of it out.
Ive been watching your videos and listen here and there to the podcast. Whenever you talk politics i feel like turning it off. Even if i agree with you on certain issues. Keep your politics to yourself unless you want to divide fans and push those away who dont agree with you.

@@RA921-v1zthey’ve been softened to believe that thinking any other way makes them a bad person. It’s Canada wide
Hey Trav
Born and raised in Saskatoon and been in the Lower Mainland, including Vancouver, for over 30 years.
(Rents, housing, access to healthcare and even the weather)
Thanks for the video and I appreciate the one you did on Saskatoon's hotel Bessborough that was one of my favorites.

@@trav4oilers Speaking as a former local "Vancouverite" of many decades, (1980's), it's obvious it needs to change, nimbyism plays a part in the multiple problems, but I still consider myself lucky to be still living...in Metro Vancouver.
Liberals screwed up the province so bad that they had to change their name. Surprise! They were secretly Conservatives!
The multiple times I’ve been to Vancouver the homelessness out weighs any positivity the city could have
i couldn't agree more, it's nutty dude
Big deal, all European cities have even better public transit (AND healthcare) and guess what? A fraction of the cost of living

Winnipeg, Calgary, maybe even a. richmond BC is an option! thanks for watching. have you seen my other videos?
It's hard to have a friend group that has diverse hobbies. If you focus on 1 hobby, you'll find plenty
I couldn't agree more. how else would you find friends!
It's a tough spot. Def a place to experience but I got a few ideas for next summer. THanks for watching :)

Do you think you would prefer to stay longer if you lived in North or West Vancouver? Maybe Squamish? What about Kitsilano, why downtown?
In North Vancouver. It's all the same shit. Maybe more family friendly in North Van but traffic and price of goods plus the abject-Liberalism is too much to bear
Absolutely, all stunning areas. And the homeless crisis seems to go away there. even richmond

I couldn't agree more, where is your spot? hope you loved the video
I am living in Winnipeg for 16 years, now is time to move to Vancouver
What do you think about the surronding cities that connect with the Sky train? Like Surrey, New West, Burnaby, etc.?
Burnaby, north van and richmond are all awesome. I'd recommend! thanks for watching. have you seen my other videos?

Great video! You’re spot on. I lived in Van for 3 years and besides the drug addiction and lack of culture - the wokeness is unbearable!
DTES problems have existed for decades. The only time there was marked improvement was when people were moved out during the Olympics, which then exasperated and put pressure on every other town in BC outside the LM. There is no level of government or political party willing to tackle the core issues because it will not be politically popular in one way or another.
ALSO while cheap, Bons is terrible. I say this and I used to go there a lot. The best breakfast is made in your own kitchen.
Hard to have. a bad meal when it's so cheap, but def agree. Not the best breakfast but def the best price.
I have seen you comment on spittin chiclets posts before and take some heat, lol. Had no idea you were doing TH-cam videos.
6:20 did you just deny climate change and blame it on the sun?
yo as a guy was was born in Winnipeg who moved to Vancouver in 2018 to moving back to Winnipeg Vancouver is sooo beautiful but cost so much my family was going paycheck to paycheck just to live in a 4 bedroom house that was 3k i love both so much but if you got money live in Vancouver lol but you video is amazing and shows the ugly truth about Vancouver
I found people from Saskatoon tend to migrate to the Okanagan Valley.
I use the car share Modo when I feel like having a car -- its awesome 😊
I have a manitoba drivers license still. I need a BC license to get one but I think that's on the table next summer. thanks for watching though, You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver :)
Nice to hear the honest truth
hey that's why its title my honest experience. Not many videos like that online. Thanks for watching. You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver :)
“Oh man, I knew we'd be the last ones here!”
Great video.
Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
$2000 per month basement suite in North Vancouver. Tell me why i work to live in a box underground again.
2000 basement suite in NV actually sounds pretty great to me hah
I like the JW hotel when I’m in Vancouver I’m sure you’ve been to Victoria island would like to know what you think of the island
Ive never been to victoria but it's on my to do list!
Hey I think I've met you cycling the arbutus Greenway before. I had the blue addict rc.
I wish I had a bike to cycle down there. Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
lol I wouldn’t swim in English bay… too close to false creek but if it’s high tide should be clean ish water
LOL.
I was not here in june 22, but months like that do happen so I believe it! The cactus club is. a dangerous place!
@@trav4oilers Proceed WITH caution... or not at all 🤣
Love Vancouver, I live in Kelowna and enjoy visiting there to catch a nucks game.
Lucky man to cash out! thanks for watching and hope you enjoy my video at the bessborough in saskatoon :)
Yup, the real estate in this city had been devoured by Chinese money since then. Housing crisis has been going nuts for yaers and I don't see this chaning anytime soon.
Would love to move there it's too hot here in Miami, and obviously it's the U.S. so that's a problem But..Go Panthers!🏆🏆🏆
The Couver so expensive all the Toontowners be going to Prince George probably
This dude is really complaining that Vancouver isn't white enough?
It’s true though! And I’m not even white! But seriously, wokeness, female toxicity. - enough’s enough already!
He mentioned immigration and culture, not a word about the city not being white enough. Stop being so racist.
@@hellaslayin7175 I was referring to his "they even look the same" comment
@@treygray2817 And? If you wanna steer it the race direction...can you name one place anywhere in any first world country that has none or minor white population that isn't a hole?

Typical large city. Good on ya to get that experience living there. Get out before you get ten ply.
Thats exactly where I'm at, not sure if I'll be here next year but thats the plan! Thanks for watching
Ken Sim is ABC, not NDP. He's closer to Conservatives than NDP.
same results, if he's done something helpful show me and I'll change my opinion. Until then, not impressed. thanks for watching. have you seen my other videos?
Canada is close to 40 million, due to immigration.
Even better! Thank you so much for watching :) You should check out my other video at the hotel vancouver covering the history of our city :)
Sh*t, I just commented on the other video ... didn't even see this one. As for Cactus Club, I know.
We all know ;)
Legendary video, Legendary guy. Maybe I should make a 10 year version 👀
I'm waiting for it :)
FYI Ken Sim in Conservative & you lost me with the socialist stuff - a big reason the gas is more expensive relates to 18.5 cents per litre going to help fund the transit system & some road work that TRANSLINK handles in METRO Van .
He sounds like another one . Watch out Vancouver !!!!
Thanks for the video.Good job! All i can say is immigrants from India just fxxx up the place. Sooner or later it will be named Vanchennai....
Your smart enough to know ain’t no one giving away product (drugs)for free. The more I think about it the more ludicrous your statement was 😅
Appreciate you as always man, I think the world is polarized with liberal vs conservative, left vs right.
Hey man I appreciate the comment. I completely agree with you but when it comes to videos like this, you can't really mention the cities flaws without it being linked to politics. I hope you understand and stick with me through other videos. I appreciate you sharing :)
