@ClickSpringReview Definitely the new Hydro 50.. I prefer the U1 proportions with the lego hands. But with this new Hydro the sword hands look better. It doesn't make the watch look to small for the hands like the U50 in my opinion.
On a normally quartz I would agree with you but this is unlike any other ,needing the exact right amount of oil for the correct pressure on the diaphragm
Great review as always Barry, i like the look of the new U50 Hydro, and the way they managed to ultimately shrink the UX while maintaining the clean look of the dial, but I can't get past the Ronda movement. They put all the effort and engineering into these wonderful timepieces to then stick a sub 20 dollar movement into it. I’m also suprised it’s just €90 cheaper than the base model UX.
If the UX hydro was sub 2k with the Ronda I’d be more inclined to be ok with it but at that price…. Not so much. Imagine if seiko started regulating the NH35 variants and got it to perform as well as the 8L35 and then started sticking it into their marine master 300’s but still charged the same, the outrage would be huge and nobody would buy one! That’s pretty much the ETA/Ronda debate in my eyes. Bloody good looking watch though 👌
Yeah it's true and its a tough call, the best thing is if Sinn never told us its a Ronda movement we would all be happy as there is no way to check but they did lol
I've had a few 8L35's and out of the box they all performed horrendously. The Rhonda will perform better than even the most tightly regulated 8L35, so for me it's still a good draw even with a non-COSC rated movement. Sinn spent over a year working on regulating it, so all things considered it's still a fantastic package, which is why they can still sell it for what they do.
My point was the Ronda is £20 the ETA 10x more so how do people feel about spending so much money on a watch that has the same movement as a Timefactors PRS-10 which costs £195! Spend about £50 on some silicone oil and you could make your own “waterproof” watch mil spec watch 😂
The Tag Heuer Aquaracer Pro 200 costs over £2.6k and that has a £45 movement in the back, Unfortunately ETA won't supply Sinn new models with there COSC spec movements and no body else makes them say apart for Seiko's 9F movement, Yes you can fill a PRS10 with but you won't get any extra water resistance out of it in fact it maybe less due to the pressure on the movement as it doesn't have a diagram
Sinn say they use the quartz movement as that is the only way to get the requisite torque to move the hands through the oil. The problem is that Ressence make an oil filled watch and use an automatic movement, so the torque argument is seemingly disingenuous. The idea that Sinn cannot use an ETA automatic movement, as they cannot get one, does not stop them from using Sellita movements, as they already do so on most of the automatic models.
As an owner U50 Hydro SDR I must admit the first week was tough, not only because of disparaging remarks about Ronda and $30 movement, but confirmation from Sinn factory that they do not "improve/modify" stock this Ronda movement. By second week (and it's only +2 seconds from NIST Atomic time) I no longer mind about the cheap movement; I am just enjoying it, and using it to set time for all my other Sinn's.
Tha is for doing this video. I have been wanting a UX for years. I prefer the non gsg dial as it is not as cluttered but much prefer the stark white seconds hand. I’ve heard that Sinn will swap them as well as rotate the case when you send them in for service.
I’d have any of them any day of the week. In fact, I do have one of them. I take it Mrs CSRs was doing some modelling for you in this one. Great review as ever and full of tech details. I get an accuracy of about 1 second a month or better from my UX. 👍🏻
Such a great trio! Thank you for this nice and informative review. Personally, I would go for an EZM2 with a tritium dial. To me, the dial is perfect, and I prefer the baton hands with the lollipop second hand. I also prefer the look of the bezel. (Is it me, or the red is also deeper on this one?)
I do believe the Tegimented symbol for the U50 Hydro can be found on the lugs (similar to the UX!) Its rather intriguing too that the U50 Hydro isn’t part of the Mission Timer range, even though its nearly identical to the UX, with the movement being the only significant difference
Thanks for the info regarding the placement of the Teg symbol, The only reason for it not having the EZM status has to be the movement as it can't match the specs of the UX
Now I know what's missing from U50 Hydro for me: the long and slim individual minute markers. That's one of the things I love about the other two. If it had them I would get over the sub par movement in an instant.
The white second hand on the UX does look sharper, although the U50 is better for my wrist size. Great looking watches though! Btw, did you send your watch to Sinn for service after Brexit? I would like to but concerned about the potential longer wait and custom charges.
No I was lucky and sent it just before, I did speak to Sinn about this very thing last week they said they return it and place on the paperwork it was a repair but they said that you may need proof of purchase also incase they contest this, wait time should be much longer
Excellent review, many thanks! I own the UX and the bounce is mesmorising! I'm glad to hear it's 'only' around £200 for the battery/oil change as I was racking up the annual increase in my head to double that amount! Oh, and a small point, it's actually 'teg-i-mented' 😉 Edit: I'm surprised Sinn didn't opt for a Sellita movement, which other manufacturers turned to after ETA. On that note, I think it was anything up to 5 years later that ETA pulled the plug.
They still use the ETA in the UX but not the U50 Hydro, I dont think Sellita make any quartz movements to be fair, PS i have a very cool custom leather strap for the UX I'm going to be featuring soon

I've not seen one on my UX at all, my old 90s Hydro it would only happen when it gets really cold and once on your wrist it would disappear. Sinn about 10 years ago redesigned the diaphragm so it shouldn't be a problem any more

@@ClickSpringReview Thanks, that’s awesome! I’ll be looking out for it. Just really torn, I’m usually pretty easy on my watches in general but plan on wearing the hell out of this one, so I maybe I should go for the more robust variation. Decisions, decisions.
Have you seen my new shorts video with my UX and a custom leather strap fitted to a Sinn clasp, it looks great I'm going to do a review about them soon
Right now, more interested in the U50 hydro than the UX. I'm in the US, so maybe the situation is different in Europe, the fully tegimented version of the UX was a limited release so you can't just go and get one of those anymore. The U50 Hydro, meanwhile, has all variations available for pre-order right now so you can get any color in any case hardness. Also, 6.75 inch wrist here, so while I can wear a 45 mm watch I would rather do a 41. I prefer the more sterile dials, so GSG branding doesn't make a difference to me.
@@ClickSpringReview I think I like the plain metal bezel rather than black. Since I'm taking my time saving up, I'll probably spring for fully tegimented on the bracelet too. Though the black bezel looks good too, I think it makes the watch look bigger because it extends the dial.
These watches would make so much more sense if they used a solar powered quartz movement. I’m not sure if or how that would work with the oil but having to send the watch back to Sinn at relatively high cost every few years is a deal breaker.
The battery normally lasts about 7/9 years so that works out to around £30 a year this I think its bad at all other brands like Breitling their quartz service costs between £145/600 and the battery only lasts about 2/3 year Bill
Wish they made the normal U50 with those hands. I'm not a big fan of the normal U50 hands, but I'm also not too keen on spending 2375€ on a Quartz watch, especially if I have to send to the manufacturer for every battery change. Still, if that's your thing, and you're a fan of the "Hydro" tech, I'm sure those are great watches.
If you speak to Sinn they will swap the hands for you . Breitling and Grand Seiko both have many quartz models which cost a thousand more and need charging every 2 years and they recommend they do the change, My old Breitling Aerospace battery service cost £150 and that was over 10 years ago
@@ClickSpringReview That's cool, I wasn't aware of that. About expensive Quartz models, I know they exist, and I'm not saying these watches are too expensive for what they are, it just isn't for me. Again, I'm sure these are great watches.
Whilst I appreciate the U50 Hydro being a more wearable size, like you I prefer its predecessor’s design especially with the ‘einsatzzeitmesser’ under the Sinn branding and the badass GSG9 logo and the markers - they all come together in a very pleasing way. If the UX was smaller I would have owned one already. If Sinn ever releases a GSG variant of the U50 Hydro…
@@ClickSpringReviewI really hope they do as well. In my opinion, the dial layout of the UX GSG9 with the all white hands is perfect. I think a lot of people would be thrilled if they make one in the U50 size.
@@mrautomatech2329 The good thing is if you buy this one and later they bring out a GSG9 model you can alway as Sinn to convert the dial and hands over to the newer GSG9

I picked up my EZM1 back in 2009/10 ish , The Tutima sounds really cool and something I'd love to get in for review. I need to contact them and see if it can get any .
I know sir thats why they use quartz for these watches but it is possible to use an auto movement if you only allow oil to the dial side like Ressence do. When you say quartz is superior thats not always the case many quartz models are over 30s a month out yes they don't have to rely on your movement to generate power and many have good accuracy but they are not all made equal
Ronda is for me a show stopper here. It's like putting a toyota engine in a Porsche. Yes, it will do the job as well, but it does not justify the price tag and spoils overall user experience. And for that reason, I'm out.
The problem is ETA no longer supply the movement to new watches. I've been talking to a different German brand about featuring their watches on the channel and the one I really like they are having to discontinue because they can not longer get the movements :(

Thats ok Sir 👍🏻
Its hard to go past the UX,
Technically the UX is the best
Whilst I appreciate the U50 Hydro being a more wearable size, like you I prefer its predecessor’s design especially with the ‘einsatzzeitmesser’ under the Sinn branding and the badass GSG9 logo and the markers - they all come together in a very pleasing way. If the UX was smaller I would have owned one already. If Sinn ever releases a GSG variant of the U50 Hydro…
I'm sure we are going to see a GSG9 variant at some point down the line Kevin :)
@@ClickSpringReview Awesome!
People have to realize that anything military makes sense with quartz for accuracy and also who wants to be in a situation where your like hold it I have to wind my watch.😅😅😅 I am a collector, and there is nothing wrong with quartz. Everyone needs to get that out of there heads.
I'm with you there Sir 👍🏻
You forgot to mention the U50 has different markers compared to the UX at the 12 o'clock.. well all around actually... Man ... I hate you (joke)... I want 10 Sinn watches now 😭 i had a ezm 3 my dream watch in 2007/8 until the bezel popped off after taking shopping out the car boot .. i was so gutted i sold it .. i paid £725 new 🤦🏽♂️ also had a 356 pilot chronograph same time and scratched the crystal... Sold that as well , that was about £650 new with a Valjoux 7750 .. just checking the prices now and im kicking myself 😮😅 i think im going to get one though.. they were my favourite watches
All the bands are the same back in 2007 a used Rolex sub was less than 3k , Which Sinn you planing to get ?
@ClickSpringReview I want the EZM 13.5 !! It's like the upgraded version to the EZM 3 .. bezel won't be getting snagged off ! Yeah i almost bought a Submariner back then it was 3K i remember, would have been a good buy , by the way i tried buying the 13.5 but it looks like it's out of stock everywhere.. tried first-class watches , Jura , Francis and Gaye no one has one in.. I think it says September on first class website 🤦🏻♂️ ... I need a watch !! I might just get a Seiko in
@ClickSpringReview okay the dream ezm was the EZM 1 but that was hard to get back in 2008.. I did end up getting a Tutima Military Chronograph with a Lemania 5100 though, love that watch
I picked up my EZM1 back in 2009/10 ish , The Tutima sounds really cool and something I'd love to get in for review. I need to contact them and see if it can get any .
A mechanical/auto movement won't work well in oil (viscosity).
Also, quartz is just superior.
More trouble than they're worth
Less trouble than an auto
Good luck with sending it to Germany for service
@@roybatty6368 I all ready have, I contacted Sinn and they sent a prepaid shipping lapel super easy Roy
How long ago? I asked for that and Sinn refused the label...
@@roybatty6368 Just over two years ago I called them directly, the service only took a few weeks
