    When impressive functionality, perfect readability and technological innovation come together, the result is versatile and robust timepiece such as the U50 HYDRO - realised in a comfortably wearable size of 41 mm diameter!
    One of the outstanding features of the U50 HYDRO is concealed inside the diving watch, meaning that its incredible effect becomes most evident under water: HYDRO Technology. The benefits never fail to impress experienced users: reflection-free underwater readability from any angle, absolute freedom from fogging and - thanks to the special oil filling - water-resistant and pressure-resistant up to a diving depth of 5,000 m (=500 bar).
    The watch focusses on a striking design with a display that concentrates on the essentials. It owes its outstanding suitability for everyday use to high-quality features with special materials, which ensure that the U50 HYDRO can withstand even the most adverse conditions. The case and crown are thus made of high-strength seawater-resistant German Submarine Steel. It is characterised by its extreme strength and exceptional non-magnetic properties. Another advantage that stands out for connoisseurs is its outstanding resistance to seawater. As a result, we have
    designed the rotating bezel to be captive in the case. Thanks to the use of TEGIMENT Technology to harden the surface, it can also easily
    withstand high external stresses. The result: exceptional scratch resistance. The positioning of the crown at 4 o’clock also deserves special attention. This prevents pressure on the back of the hand - even during physically demanding activities.
    Due to the aforementioned oil filling, this timepiece must be a quartz watch, as the oscillation of the balance in a mechanical watch would be unable to overcome the high damping resistance of a liquid medium. Nevertheless, watch lovers needn’t forgo the reliability typical of SINN - the long-lasting lithium battery used ensures reliable function at temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C. The battery also has an exceptionally long service life. The movement’s integrated EOL (end of life) function prevents the watch from stopping suddenly.
    Whether for professional use or to cope with the demands of diving, the U50 HYDRO is perfect for such challenges - as has also been confirmed by independent classification company DNV. On our behalf, it tests and certifies pressure resistance to a diving depth of 5000 m (= 500 bar) and temperature resistance and functionality in accordance with the European diving device standards.

    Now all they have to do is put a solar powered module in there and there would be no need to have a specialist change the battery. Thanks for the review.

    I've owned this for a few weeks now and it's proving to the be ultimate go anywhere watch. Have taken it in the pool, sea, knocked it against all sorts of stuff and there's not a single mark.
    I was initially concerned about the movement, but it's so far only running 1 second fast after a 3 weeks so not bad. And tbh it's still more accurate than any mechanical, and will still be accurate when you come to change the date every other month.
    I also like how this one hits the minute markers more precisely vs the UX. The bounce is also less pronounced.

    I am not sure if I am being nit-picking. I feel like the hour indexes are too small. It does not hurt the legibility much but it will feels more "tooly" if the hour indexes are longer and thicker.
    The mechanical U50 does not have this problem because the Lego Hands are thick. It looks cartoonish but it is actually very functional for legibility. However, U50 Hydro has thinner hands and the hour indexes are too small. It makes the dial too much black space.
    Or maybe I just need some time to like aesthetic design.

    I really like this watch as i am a big fan of the U50 and the UX already. This is a very clean looking design and the colour pops so much better than the greyscale T50's IMO.
    I think id like to have seen a better solution for the servicing. Perhaps a dry battery compartment for easier battery changes and then maybe back to sinn for an oil change every second or third battery change perhaps. Something like that would have been a cool upgrade and soften the blow of the movement downgrade. But that's perhaps a small nitpick for the sake of some servicing costs.

The downside is the oil filled, I dont see the benefit to this type of watch unless you are a serious diver, even saturation divers would not need it given they can take anything to pressure in the bell and then swim with them. Problem arises with battery change as that is a significant price for a battery change. you would not service this movement either as its more economical to just buy a new one. Hi Barry ! Nice review but sorry it’s too expensive 😳 love my U50 fully tegimented it’s more than enough always like Sinn watches but what’s the point make such an expensive watch like that 😳 if you need to change battery man that’s insane 200€ for battery man !!!!!
    A chronograph servicing in 5 years! Only if had fall on floor very hard that’s bad and maybe it could need go for service but that’s another thing not 200€ for a battery swap mama mia !
    Rather buy those cool Goldbromze much more of a watch almost same price me saying… plus Sinn had raised prices a lot since December not sure if it’s because the hype in Us, Japan … anyway thanks for the nice review @Barry !
    By the way got a question for you it’s of topic sorry it’s about oil for Arkansas stone I’ve checked Amazon and not sure what are best ??? As I’ve need buy it from Amazon Spain and they call it oil for sharpening knifes 😳 if you can point me a brand would appreciate Barry thanks mate !

      This one is still less than the standard UX model, the battery in my ones both lasted around 8 years which is amazing, In 8 years a 103 chrono with AR will cost you over 1000 euros suddenly 200 doesn't sound to bad remember its not just a battery but its the special oil they fill the case with. No other watches in the world is as water resistance as these are they are truly something special and used by the German military. I use water stones for my Kitchen knifes, they are so sharp I can cut paper with them, Or if your thinking of sharping your screwdrivers a diamond card is better

      @@ClickSpringReview Ive been on a rather watch buying spree this week . Last week I purchased a Seiko Marine Master with green dial, robust to say the least. Yesterday an Alpinist in green and leather as well as a Longines Spirit Zulu on leather. I had originally went to visit an Rolex Air King however it was a earlier model , I was hopeful of the most current upgrade. Rolex can be a bit of a struggle when seeking a favorite.

    Nobody has ever needed a 5KM diving watch, and nobody ever will. But you get all the disadvantages of a floppy seconds hand that never aligns perfectly with the indices, plus it doesn't even set itself, so it's always going to be slightly off. Other than viewing underwater from extreme angles (which is fun), what exactly is the point?

      The Hydro range are one of the few quartz models were my friends have revered on about. I was wearing my UX last night and a friend who knows what watches I own thinks this is by far the best, The clarity due to the oil is simply unrivalled . I was hoping Sinn modified this Ronda with aged quartz to make it more stable and accurate but confirmed with factory that they do not modify or regulate. So short of a unknown "top grade" Ronda Sinn might have released a highly anticipated watch without thinking how a $30 movement could tarnish its UX/U50/Hydro's reputations.@@ClickSpringReview

    Why didn't they keep the lego-block hands? That's the DNA of the U50/U1!

    So if I understand correctly, you might get five to ten years battery life, but in order to change the battery, you have to send it to the factory, and pay >£200. My friend, I think they saw you coming. Sinn is the new Grand Seiko. I think I'll pass. Let the gimmicks be quiet.

    • @ClickSpringReview
      @ClickSpringReview  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      My Breitling needed a battery change every 2 year they charge around £150 Tissot T touch was about £120 every 2 years also, The Sinn Factory is the only place which can refill the oil so your talking around £28 a year you have to set aside sounds like a bargain to me, Remember the German military (GSG9) have been using this watch in the UX and EZM2 for over 25 years

    • @RandallSlick
      @RandallSlick 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ClickSpringReview Point taken, but I'm old-school and will change my own batteries. My concern is OEMs tying owners (sorry, consumers) to esoteric servicing requirements. We see it in the electronics industry (qv Right to Repair) and the car industry (qv BMW and their proprietary nuts and now with software activation of existing features). Perhaps a few U50 Hydro owners will decide to service and re-oil their property themselves. After all, I image it's only filled with 3-in-1-type light machine oil. My quest for a reasonably-priced T50 continues.

    • @ClickSpringReview
      @ClickSpringReview  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know they used to use a silicon oil but changed this around 2007 for a different type as it was affecting the lume. The standard auto movement uses about 7 different types of oil/grease, its so expensive 9010 cost me £20 for 2ml, Epilame which you drop so parts into to help the oil stick to them costs me £70 for 50ml, the oils used are crazy prices

    • @GollyGDean

      you should be servicing your automatic movements at about the same interval so what's the difference

    • @RandallSlick
      @RandallSlick 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@GollyGDean Because 90% of auto watches contain common, standardised movements for which parts are freely available. Despite the decline of independent watchmakers, it is at lest conceivable that you can find one trader to service your watch. Being forced to use the OEM for servicing is a fundamental consumer problem. Look up Right to Repair. It's a thing and it's important to all of us as consumers. Adding esoteric complication to ordinary watches is ultimately a marketing ploy.
