- Alan Dobie stars in this highly acclaimed classic series written by award winning crime writer Peter Lovesey. Known for his wry sense of humour, Cribb is the backbone of Scotland Yard´s newly formed Criminal Investigation Department aided and sometimes hindered, by the faithful Constable Thackeray.
Cribb “Invitation to a Dynamite Party” 1981 HD
Fenians intent on the independence of Ireland from Britain are perpetrating a number of bomb attacks around London, including at Scotland Yard. Cribb is sent on a course in the art of bomb-making and poses as an Irishman sympathetic to the Irish Republican Brotherhood in order to get to the heart of the society. However certain members of the brotherhood get hold of him to join them on a submarine where they want him to blow up a brand new British battle-ship to prove his allegiance to the cause.

This story is based around
the late 19th movement
This period defined the division *between nationalists and unionist* .
What a great story involving paramilitary forces.
And
Reminded me of a 1985 tv episode of a hospital drama called *casualty* ... One _northern Irish soldier_ character accidentally detonates a hotel Room & we see a scene And a reaction and backlash faced by an Irish nurse working at the emergency ward.
Thank you for sharing
Randomly I was reminded of this episode as the opening scenes were filmed in the sand dunes behind Formby beach, by Altcar Rifle range. My friend Alex and I were walking down to the beach and came across the film crew doing the explosions and scene in the trench. We were asked to help out throwing sand over the actors to simulate the explosion. What a memorable day out!
That's a great backstory thank you
Message for those of you I know are following this series....this is the last one in my series...hope you have enjoyed them. Later on this year I will be posting some other great, old and forgotten series. I have a few up my sleeve already....!!! Stay in touch and thanks for watching XX

So very true Mary...I have to say that when You Tube started I never realised what a wonderful tool it would become to honour some of this talent and keep a little bit of history alive. I had a comment just the other day from a young man whose grandfather - Oliver Horsbrugh, had directed the episode "Something Old Something New" and I thought how lovely it was that he had been given a chance to see it. My own searches on You Tube have allowed me to find some of my family history and put me back in touch with some fantastic actors and entertainers. Long may they reign!!!!!
It is Great so, is facebook [ i am on there under smv ridout ] if used as meant. likewise pinterest [best english actors] should you wish to drop by my son is an actor Gordon Ridout- i am just a humble ex-model [ legs of polly peck ] turned therapist- i am so pleased for you -Yes, long may they reign
Hi again Mary...Oh how interesting...bet you are very proud of your son...it´s so hard to get on in that world..Gordon appears to be winning !!! Best of luck to him. I remember the frustrations all round as a kid...my father got some good parts...kept us all out of the work house :-) ...but getting to the top of the tree is difficult...my mother (like you) humble ex singer!!!)...I will send you a friends request on facebook...(I go under Vaudeville Funtimes - my page is open...some lovely showbiz pics in Albums on my page...got a lot more to go through...scanning scanning and more scanning...speak to you soon XX

25:18 -- This scene recalls Édouard Manet's painting "The Monet Family in Their Garden at Argenteuil" (1874).
I haven't forgotten him, Mary. Excellent actor and sadly, rarely seen TV series. Why is this not being repeated on freeview ?

It has. It was on ITV3 at least 10 years ago. Not since then though.
The final episode in this classic series and a worthy final adaption of a Cribb novel written by Peter Lovesey.Thank you so much for bringing my attention to this series in the first place and the subsequent introduction to not only Peter Lovesey, who is such an original and prolific writer, but also to the talents of your late father and all of his many chums in the archive material that you have discovered. So cue VIVIENNE CHERING ...............(needle scrapes across the old 45rph record)...silence .No don't say this is the end ....it's just the beginning of this wonderful VAUDEVILLE FUNTIMES and I can't wait to see what other great old forgotten gems you can conjure up out of that magical archive .A big hug for all the work you have put into uploading this material and the dialogue we have shared .................till the next time x Record comes to an end ,needle sticks in groove curtains close house lights fade .............

Hi Gordon...you made a comment on something about a week ago...just to let you know ...not ignoring you...it ended up in my spam box for some bizarre reason and now my technological mastery has proved me to be totally inept at retrieving it...Sorry...I will probably find it now I´ve said all of that. Anyway...hope to have a new series out soon..."The Devils Crown"...just going through the episodes now but could be an interesting one for you to watch. Let you know when I get it out there. X😁😁
Will definitely keep a lookout for that posting .Thanks in advance for the time and effort you put in to retrieve and upload these vintage classics
Yes...should be good...I just need to make sure I have all the episodes in tact before I start...Chubby was in it for about 4 seconds in episode 7 !!! Ha ...Massive part!!!! Hopefully start in the next few days...
When I saw this forty-odd years ago I thought "the last time I saw an Alan Dobie character around explosives, he was getting his guts blown out by a shell at Borodino!"
RSC's Nickolas Nickleby was being performed at the same time with quality production values.
Great series
Great movie 🤩🤩🤩💖💖
Thank you 😊
For those of you who may have watched the American soap opera "Another World," you'll likely recognize in this episode the actor Charles Keating who played Carl Hutchins on the soap.
11:06 -- Charles Keating also had a role ("Rex Mottram") in the ITV series "Brideshead Revisited" (1981).
Charles Keating also appeared as "Rex Motram" in the ITV series "Brideshead Revisited" (1981).
Clever story. However, it deals with a serious subject that plagues our world to this day.
Give a moment's thought to all those murdered and maimed by blood-thirsty terrorists all across the world. Give the latter no quarter, and may they never, ever rest in peace.
I assume that the reference to 1981 was a screening year, because the end date on the video itself with the ATV logo was 1979.
This is most definately a underestimated very good series,.. never seen in my country...who is responsible ? Sack the b...ard
I love the realistic energy. Too often TV presents Victorians rather like their photographs: rather dour and humourless.
These days the HSE would have prevented them getting back into their offices so quickly.....It's Health and Safety gone mad 🤣
sorry you have left Facebook
