- Alan Dobie stars in this highly acclaimed classic series written by award winning crime writer Peter Lovesey. Known for his wry sense of humour, Cribb is the backbone of Scotland Yard´s newly formed Criminal Investigation Department aided and sometimes hindered, by the faithful Constable Thackeray.
"A Case of Spirits"
Two robberies at the homes of patrons of a medium holding séances in their houses seem rather more than coincidence but Jowett belongs to a group investigating the honesty of the medium, who is wired electrically to a bell which will ring if he moves in such a way that suggests trickery. Unfortunately the wiring explodes and he is killed. Cribb is called to investigate a death that was certainly not perpetrated by somebody from the spirit world.

Alan Dobie 87 now should be given a Lifetime Bafta fellowship award for a very varied career acting/writing/directing/ narration a truly unique voice [ and such a kind person ]
I am grumpy from annoying houseguests but saw this and was so happy.
@cruisepaige I don't mean to make light of your predicament, but your comment made me laugh outloud as I imagined it as a sitcom episode! You know the old saying about guests and fish, of course?
Long a fan of the books by Peter Lovesey, finding these presentations has been a delight!! Thank you, muchly much!
This is good; mystery without the blood, gore, and violence.
Not to mention the fact there is no use of bad language...today the F word is like punctuation...totally unnecessary.
was having a bad day, saw a post of Cribb yesterday and thought "why feel bad, watch Cribb!", so I did and now I'm watching more. Eternal thanks to the great person who also loves this fabulous drama, one of the few programmes I ever really watched when I was younger. My thanks go with you
Vaudeville Funnies,
Thanks for another engaging and amusing episode with Sergeant Cribb-here investigating the 'spirit world' with help of cast members of comedy show 'Keeping up Appearances'!
Too young to watch this when it was on the television. Found this series today whilst exploring YT. Loved this so much, why is there always rubbish now on tv? Thank you 😊
Many thanks for posting, this is an entertaining series. I’ll be watching more episodes in future.
One of the best episodes .very fun to watch.
Thanks for making this the next in the series .Three of us reading the books in the household. All enjoyed this one and am finding the recreations very well staged and true to the source material
Glad you are enjoying them...nice to add some cleverly recreated visuals to the books you are following.
I can't but help declare...."Richard!" (In the voice of Mrs Bucket)
"Richard" got in trouble because he failed to act more executively. 😊
Cribb is a beautifully conceived character and Alan Dobie was one of that splendid battery of the Television actors that developed a supreme acting art with the camera in the studio .It was almost classical age of television before direction tended to exploit more versaile and mobile equipment with the result acting and documentary lost immediacy and acting was less compelling .Cribb is a splendid creation of that golden age of television.
Acting quality which Netflix could only dream of producing.
Great one for Keeping Up Appearances fans
Is that actress playing Miss Crush (Judy Cornwell) played Onslow's wife, Daisy, in Keeping Up Appearances. Clive Swift, playing Dr. Probert was also in Keeping Up Appearances, playing Hyacinth's husband
Daisy and Richard Bucket working together pre-Bouquet era
I recognised her. Thanks for pointing out that it's also her husband.😅😅
Thank you for this a mix of comedy and clever mystery detective work.I have never seen it before, it must have a show shown in the regions but missed in London.
Long suffering Thackeray, 11 hours in the snow. Excellent, lots if fun despite the murder. Thank you all. Xxx❤❤❤
Thank you
thank you from manhattan ©2024
Daisy from Keeping Up Appearances!! Richard too!! Such different characters in this!!
Hyacinth Bucket's husband, Richard, and her sister, Daisy!
53 minutes of my life I can’t get back ……….
Richard and Daisy!
Sadly did not catch this series, but the set is very accurate , very impressive , and how it used to be , perfect,.
This is truly amusing.
For a moment I thought this was an episode of Keeping Up Appearances...
Good movie 🤩🤩🤩💖💖
Richard and Violet what a lovely surprise
Daisy
Compare this authentic stuff to the artificial rubbish 🗑 of today 😒
Very good episode this 1.
Inspector Jowett has changed. I wonder, was Probert talking about Hyacinthe?
Love seeing Richard without Hyacinth but he’s so awful here!

😅😅
PS am finding some of the later episodes slightly out on lip -sync ,maybe my computer or is it original dubbing ?
Yes...I am afraid some are slightly out of sync..I had another comment about that and went back to look at the master. They are errors on the master. I have tried to correct them were possible on my software but what I am finding is that there is no one point where I can sync them back into.. . It is not as if the whole audio is out of line in the exact same place... It seems as though each scene has been overdubbed and not always very well.
Same here tried to reset audio with slight delay but as you say no set point to work from and seems to settle down of its own accord after a while.Certainly hasn't spoilt my enjoyment and hope you continue with the series......... they've been overlooked far too long.Gradually working through the rest of your uploads and again thoroughly enjoying ...amazing with the old comedians ,their delivery and timing was perfect ,able to adapt to the situation if some heckling or delays and hit that punch line spot on.It is never about the joke with these performers you may have heard it many times, know the out come, but you're guaranteed to be laughing all the way along to the end with them.No groans here just total awe of the talent and showmanship.
@@vaudevillefuntimes9753 still great thanks
Goor wus that Serg Ventris minus his hard boiled eggs...
It's Charlie Cotton would never recognise him
All transgender actors, IMO.
Charming to see a very young Judy Cornwell "Daisy" , from Keeping Up Appearances .
