So sad that Danny never got his van...the part in this video where he is getting out of bed ...is painful to watch..feel so sorry for him. And anyone in that situation...props to bad brad(the best ever!!) for attempting to get Danny some wheels.RIP Magoo!
Stingray, Thanks so much for the offer and thoughts. The fundraising campaign ended after Danny passed and the funds when to his daughter and to the Wings For Life organization in Europe doing research on curing spinal cord injuries. Keep "Magoo" in your thoughts.
We love you and miss you magoo forever never been another great like Danny I still am amazed by him like the day I first seen him ride he’s just incredible and it showed his true heart when he faced adversity what a great man who’s so missed by so many Bad Brad another great thanks for awsome video
Hey Brad Danny should also be remembered as the first guy to ever double jump. He has always been that guy to me and it should never be forgotten. After he doubled the uphill at Saddleback, other racetracks started adding double jumps back in the early 80s. This important milestone is being missed everywhere. We should do our best highlight how much he revolutionized the sport.
Hi Brad, My name is Chris Popanz. I grew up in Foresthill & rode with Magoo & his sister Tammy once in a while when he was home. This is an awesome thing you are doing for him. I have watched numerous times at Hangtown & was always amazed at how fast he is and what he can do on a bike. Thank you for doing this for him, its the least we can do for him after all he has done for us. I see him at Fast Fridays in the summertime when he goes. He is still my motocross hero! I will be contributing!!
So sorry to hear about Magoo's passing. But in another way I am relieved. Now he is back racing once again with the likes of Jim West, Gassin' Gaylon Mosier, Jimmy Steele, and the rest of the motocrossers who left us before we had a chance to say goodbye. And there is no question in my mind that there is nothing quite like him up there in Heaven.... just as there was no one like him down here among us. Godspeed, Magoo.
Brad, it's a great thing you guys are doing for Magoo and I will put some money in also. You're an absolute legend of the sport and a pioneer for US riders in Europe. I was motocrossing in the 70's & 80's in Australia and we had local heroes but the real deal for us was always the U.S guys like you, Hannah, Glover, LaPorte, Smith, Bailey and of course, Danny Chandler
Danny was so fast out of control and fun to watch all at once! I was at saddleback when he was one of two jumping the drop off and just skying that SHHHH lol Because of this dude i got kicked out of a high school history class reading about how he went down got up and Won ,it was the one when he was on the cover of Motocross Action !! My History teacher snached it off my desk and goes stop dreaming ! llol He was right i was Dreaming of riding like Danny, i suspect many others did the same thing ! I still tell my kids about him so he lives on !!
Brad Lackey!! You're an amazing guy. I've watched this video at least 10 times. I love Danny. And, it's truly inspirational to see you reaching out to help him. I want to do this. I'm inspired to help others.
I remember racing at Irwindale CMC Night Motocross, Southern California, during 1976-77. Motocrossers were talking about this guy up north called "Magoo." You could say that Magoo was already a legend, before he became a legend. R.I.P. Danny Chandler.
I met Danny at the 1975 1st Can Am Amateur National Championship in Baldwin Kansas. It was a real treat to all the spectators watching Danny doing the no handed double peace sign cross up on his 125 Elsinore .Unfortunately he broke his ankle that day. we greatly miss him.
I'm 54 & Magoo was many buckeye farm kids God, straight up. Whats cool, his long video, at the 54 minute point, when he was loaded in the ambulance, HE KNEW! That's so cool, cause I have seen the light also, so cool to know Magoo, Ill get to meet you. Watch "Beyond our Sight" by Anthony Chene, good watch. Let Alan & Lewis describe what Magoo seen, I know, cause it changed me. Friggin just sold my hog & bought a PCX150 lmao. Bad Brad will be rewarded for helping Magoo, and Magoo for seeing & then sharing the light. So cool knowing that.
so glad I ran into this - brings back many memories. Hangtown and Magoo was classic MX - thanks for posting this. And Bad Brad was indeed bad. He calls Magoo crazy and that's true, but Bad didn't get his name by riding, um, safe all the time.
Brad, you just raised your status even higher on my list of all-time favorite riders and you were already #1. You're alright, and I don't care what Bob Hannah said about you (LOL). I was in my early 20s when Magoo was haulin' some SERIOUS ass on the AMA PRO circuit. I remember when MXA first gave us all the heads up on this guy. They were right. He is really something. I will do my part to help out the MAGOO. Thanks Brad.
MAD props to THE MAGOO!! His accomplishment in Destroying the world at the Des Nations was AMAZING! I remember as a kid always wanting to have a bike like his: the works Honda RC500 & 250! Man, what beautiful & dominating bikes they were! RIP Magoo, you were a BAD BAD dude! I'll never forget ya!
Yes, he was a factory rider in the late 70s. I have this DVD, it was between Maico and KTM and he went with maico, followed by Honda in the 80s, then KTM.
Brad you were my hero when I was a kid . Istill have your poster hanging in my shop of you on the first kawasaki F11 prototype . I went to work at age 10 for Mike & Connie Mcgowan @ Mikes Cycle in Placerville ca. I was good friends with Danny Turner, Keven Henry,Lowel Spiva I can remember Magoos dad putting a milk crates on each side and starting that CZ and Danny hoping on just like it was yesterday. I would love to donate to his cause if the site is still up. 202 J John Wunschel Old HangTown Ca
The part where Magoo takes the far outside off the sweeper in a wheelie, roosting is classic. He was a special rider and it's a terrible thing that he has passed on. If you want to read about him and what he did after his paralysis, google Danny Magoo Chandler death and Motocross Action's Jody Weisel should come up. It's a really good epitaph for a great rider who did much for motocross and you can see just by his riding how much he loved life. To Magoo's credit, he found life beyond his injury.
@bigbean843 No one could hang with Magoo when he stayed on the bike. I never saw a rider who rode with less fear than Danny. He was a unique talent. Bubba is extremely good, but if you threw them both on the bikes Magoo was riding back then, Danny would school him.
I donated to Danny's Van fund, just before his passing. Great memories, but what ever happened to the Van project? I would Love to hear a story how it went to a similar persons needs. Anybody fill me in? Cheers !
Magoo came to Salt Lake City's Boneville Moto-X track back in the late 70s or early 80s. He was a big name by then, and I was shocked that he was there. The track was rather simple but had one BIG jump (plaza). He launched OFF that like he was evil knievel. Someone tell me why he was there...
@stew179 Good post. As far as Chandler being the fastest? It's impossible to answer. There are lots of legends who are/were called that because their riding was beyond mere mortal. Magoo was one of them. But some of the Europeans, DeCoster, Mikkola, Aberg, Kring and Joel Robert were guys that even Magoo looked up to growing up. One pointer though. Get spell check. And if you have it, use it. I know you don't want to make us motocross fanatics look ignorant, do you?
God bless Magoo. Never forgotten.
May be gone but never forgotten, Ride high in the sky Magoo 😢

"Magoo" and "Bad Brad" two of the best to ever throw a leg over a motocross bike...

your right on, he was factory Maico

IF YOU DONT CRASH EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE YOUR NOT GOING FAST ENOUGH !!! 👍🤙🙏
Crying.
Maybe I'm just seeing things, but I could swear Danny's on a Maico in a lot of these scenes. Did he ever ride for the factory?
@Mr89250r I never made it to pro but sure took a lot of pro photos of all of those guys
Did you know Jack Riggi ?
