    Danny was the best. It was amazing to see him racing supercross out there with the big guys. Danny was a local, and the raced the local races. Then, all of a sudden, he made it into the big leagues. It was just incredible to see that happen.

    Thank you for posting this. I saw danny race only once at Prairie City. I've never seen any person so completely outclass every other competitor in my life. Danny lapped every rider, even second place. He was jumping over people who were already in mid-air. I'll never forget it.

    Mr Magoo, aka Danny Chandler. He was something to see ride when he was on, it was nuts and he would win and kick everyone's ass on the track. I grew up in the 70's so, Danny being talked about by the King of GP racing Roger DeCoster is priceless. He was a shooting star until he got hurt. I love his style and effort for winning was incredible was one of a kind.

    I am from Sacramento too, and saw MaGoo race at Hangtown at Prairie City(used to be held at Placerville years ago). It had been raining for 2 weeks before the race, and the track was mostly mud holes. There were cars stuck just trying to get in!
    One of the races, MaGoo was so far ahead of the pack, he started goofing around like he always did. He would jump higher than everyone else just for the crowd. He came down a very steep part of the track, hit a huge mud hole and went over the bars when his bike stopped. MaGoo must have flown 40 feet into the mud, hurting his knee. The pack caught up to him and passed him as he struggled to get on his feet and hobble back to his bike. That frickin crazy ass got it back upright, started, and took off. The crowd went wild. Within the next two laps, MaGoo had passed everyone again, and won that race. I'll never forget the guy!

    I want thank you guys for taken the time I only know about Dan,from MXA magazine,my dad's good friend Dave was the art directed,and move Cali,so I got MXA and host of motorcycle mags for like seven years cause my dad drove him all the way to California,1973 was my first MXA mag arrived with Roger Decoster on the cover with some trophy girl stuck to his face,hah,there was a lot of Magoo photos thru the years,I ride more like Steve wise,and I study riders techniques,Like the way the Bailey s do,and I'm really get blown away at how amazing Chandler actually rode,its like a time warp,I have to remind myself,he rode the bikes,back then like the guys ride the modern bikes,but it was like 35 years earlier,he really changed the way motocross is ridden,and from my experience no one rode that way for longtime pushing the bikes,watching the superbikers at Carlsbad was where I noticed his talent level,the corner on to the pavement he got that bike to stick like no one else could,he just had the technique down,even against Steve,a guy who was great on all bikes...and that's real incredible.God bless him.

    I saw Danny ride entire Main event on a back flat tire, Washougal Wa, 500/125 nationals. Jeff Ward was the 500 champ, & Magoo, was riding 125, he got the flat on 2nd lap, rode to a 2nd place 45 min moto on a back flat? Only thing keeping that tire on rim was the wheel locks, he jumped the Washougal downhill all the way to the bottom of jump on a back flat! Win at all costs! RIP Danny

    Mr. Maniac Magoo, R.I.P.
    Rodger D. has some killer instinct no one has matched, No one. Plus Rodger is probably one of the most humble in an ego driven industry. Just is.

    • @gdv4612
      @gdv4612 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what you mean by killer instinct but if it has to do with rider skill in their prime with the same bikes Magoo would have taken Roger to the cleaners and then some.

    @1:28 sums it up XD Danny was badass. Poor & dangerous track design near the 1985 Paris supercross finishline led to a freak crash folded up on a concrete pad. Watch "Wild Magoo" the end will give you a smile Danny was nobodys victim. RIP

    Grew Crew, Nothing was cut, this was all the footage I recieved from the event. There wasn't a News Crew from a National TV station there and a Program Director cut something out. A friend of mine took this footage with a Digital still camera on motion mode. I'm sorry your favorite part was not in the video, but I wasn't there and this was all I recieved.

  • @sunnyoutdoors
    @sunnyoutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I remember seeing magoo at sears point on a maico starting line with those lousy spring washer clutches in the 70s and he had trouble holding the tall bike up. I think he was the best rider ever but on safety he wouldn't listen because riding fast and winning was like a drug and in his mind he was immortal and the night before with 1 hour sleep, riding a foreign French track, showing off to the reporter and the flash from the camera blinding him and he couldnt see the bars when he landed and it all added up to disaster but he had the factory honda ride and he was King. RIP Danny, we all love and miss you and we still have your stories and memories.

    I was at Escape Country to race one weekend around 77 when Danny was on a Suzuki.
    There was a big jump and most of the pros where landing about 3/4 of the way down the back side. Danny was landing a good distance from the bottom of the hill.
    The next MXA or DB mag had an interview with Danny and he was talking about the Suzuki’s and how their frames flexed to much, I thought dam, they didn’t except Evel Knievel to ride them.

    To anyone here who may not know, check out DeCoster's story. He actually died and returned to life after a head on during a GP, during warmup, I think. He was pronounced DEAD. And there he is... and then he won the world title - again!
    Danny was from my Northern CA neighborhood, he was a little younger than me, but my cousin rode and hung with him. Sorry I has died too early. Oh, knew Brad too, on the track with him at a local - once. Nice to see everyone!

    Interesting that Brad said at least twice they were doing 130MPH at the superbikers. Brad has a bit of an exaggeration problem.

    • @highadventur
      @highadventur 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not much exaggeration at. These bikes were geared for the long road track section. My fully loaded KLR with a 705cc big bore kit ran 103mph, it's o low hp pig compared to these bikes. A stock CR500 would run 90mph geared for motocross. These bikes were Works bikes and geared for this race. They were running well over 100mph no doubt.
