Sober is one of my favorite songs by BIGBANG! MADE Album is arguably the best Kpop album ever. GD & T.O.P knew this was probably it for them at the time and they put everything into it. I hope someday BIGBANG has a comeback WITH T.O.P back as well. 2NE1 15th anniversary tour has given me hope now.

Ateez's Hongjoong said his inspiration, his role model, his favorite artist is G Dragon. GD inspired him so much from music to fashion. Fans even called him GD's son lol. But it's crazy how much respect and power GD holds in 90% of the kpop music industry. He took a 7 year hiatus and came back recently and the songs are still topping the charts. What a legacy!

I've noticed some BIGBANG fans don't give the group credit for the first and most significant change they made in the idol industry: idols being acknowledged as artists.
There was a time when K-pop idols were losing credibility. As idol companies focused too much on visuals and less creativity, Koreans hated it. Idols were often seen as mere dancing machines, lip-syncing to songs composed by their companies. But when BIGBANG entered the scene, they were making their own music. Even during trainee days, GD was seen composing songs, writing lyrics, even providing creative inputs, and singing their songs live. They gained respect for that. You can see some snippets in their 2006 documentary.
Initially, people questioned the legitimacy of G-Dragon being recognized and awarded for his work at such a young age. However, as BIGBANG continued to release hits after hits, and their following grew both locally and internationally, the idol industry began to follow their footsteps. And they achieve that growth without fans aggressively hyping them through various social media platforms like next-gen did (note: we don't have social media like today yet, only blogs and forums). BIGBANG grew exponentially through the love of fans and people discovering their music. Even their successful solo careers starting from 2009 brought even more fans to the group. Ntm, getting some recognition in MTV awards when it was still alive and kickin.

Actually, Top left the team by himself. Not the same case with seungri. 😢 Top seemed so sick of haters who constantly were making fun of him. Whether it’s better than Alcohol or tobaccos or not, smoking weed is illegal here in Kor. Apparently it can’t be justified but at the same time it’s not a serious crime. - people are too harsh to celebrities I guess- So loads of Korean fans want him to come back. 🙄 But he is like quite extra so we never know.

Big Bang broke the mold and influenced all other idols after! Before Big Bang, idol groups had members dressed exactly the same with perfectly choreographed moves with music written by companies. Big Bang made it trendy to have different personalities within the same group, write, produce their own music and have music with diverse subjects. They had a vision, like you said. You hit the nail about drugs and idols in Korea, it’s not the deed but more that it is illegal. They love western artists that have done drugs but they don’t tolerate it within their own celebrities, which is baffling. A lot of times smoking weed is treated the same as sex offenders, crazy. Hopefully it will change in Korea, but it will take time.
