Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook....
As one who is new to learning about swimbaits, I really appreciate this video. There are lots of different types of swimbaits and different ways to rig them. Randy, you do a wonderful job at explaining how and why they work too.
Every Bait co. has the BEST BAITS on the market. Remember Zara Spook, Jelly Worms, Hawaiian Wigglers, etc. way back when? They ALL catch fish at some time or another.
As an experiment I had on my rig a bobber with a live minnow and approximately about 14 inches above that live minnow I added another hook with a simulation of a minnow made of soft plastic. A largemouth ate the live minnow and I didn't react quick enough to set the hook, but I truly believe that that this same bass went after the plastic minnow within seconds later and I got that bass into the boat. When the bass are hungry enough they don't have time to analyze if it's a live minnow or fake. I want to try that experiment again to see if my theory is correct or just a fluke (no pun intended)
The Sassy Shad was the ORIGINAL swimbait. It has caught more bass here on the Lower Coosa River than any other lure throughout the years. It's how I caught a 7lb 1oz spotted bass right against Lay Dam. I found an even more productive minnow lure. It catches bass against the dams, even with the turbines OFF. It is the Lake Fork Tackle Baby Boot Tail Shad. On a custom ¼oz weedless head, it catches everything that swims. It's SMALLER, so it allows you to catch even the bream and crappie that attack it. It will catch every kind of fish, everywhere there IS a fish. They're also a fraction of the cost of Keitech, Megabass, and most other tiny minnow makers.
I really miss the Sassy Shiner more. It was so good that I rarely used anything else. Little stinger hook on it, catch brown trout all day. Caught a 28+ striper on one. Oh wow, edit: that sickle tail baby shad looks really good,😍
All megabass swimbaits are excellent! I have multiple of all of them. All my A-rigs have hazedong or spark shads on them small & up to 4" . I drop swim them alot too
Ive been using these for a while now, they literally work everywhere and for just about all species. They make them in a 4" as well. I use the 4" on a dropshot and drop swim it for smallmouth and largemouth. The smaller size in Moroku or chartreuse are crappie killers!
I bought some hazedongs, and some spark shads to mix in my arsenal this spring, and summer. I heard the spark shad is more action, and body roll for more active fish in warmer water, and the hazedong shines in cold water with its awsome soft plastic to move subtly and draw strikes.
Just a quick tip... if you're struggling with getting something that you're holding in your hand to come into focus, try putting your other hand behind the bait or some sore of solid material behind the object you're trying to get in focus with the camera. Hope that helps.
I've tried those and megabass spark shads (my favorite) paired with 1/10 and 1/15 zman finesse bulletz and have had just a bunch of fun catching bass with them...just have to make sure you wet the belly weight on the bulletz because the shads are no way as tough as zman plastic
I've been dropshotting with these since release & have caught so many fish in clear water or late winter on them. I think 3lb smallmouth to 6lb bass in CA. Has been my bigger fish on the tiny one.
It is a great bait. I use them with a screw head. IMO, it's softer than a Keitech(more natural). It swims at a slower retrieval speed. Throw it on a pop It stick(#1 power) for the ultimate fun. I've caught 5lbers on it.
I never throw these things away. When the head gets torn up from multiple bites, I cut the heads off and rig them on a jighead like you do Randy, as in your second method.
I can catch a limit of bass on night crawlers if the condition is right. You know like people did 100 years ago. We make fishing a lot more difficult than it ever should be.Always a new bait oh wait spend more money? Wow
I think someone needs to remind randy that he needs to be explicit about sponsorships per youtube regulations. Because if he’s actually sponsored and not stating it explicitly at the beginning of the video he could get in trouble
Baits of this style have been on the market for more than thirty years. I remember fishing baits like this back in the eighties. What's new about this?
finally, someone else that's been fishing all their life..... it's not if it catches fish. a 5-inch is striper candy, 2" is crappie candy, etc... if someone says this lure is new what they are really saying is they're new to fishing. or they need clicks
@@mrb9502 You got that right! Or they only just found these baits at Walmart and think they're new. And yes I've been fishing literally my whole life. Isn't it a great life!
The good ol’ Sassy Shad back in the day started it all. And the STILL have consistent action from the bag. Each bait swims the same. The Megabass is a great swimbait. The protruding eyes, I think, add an important feature to it’s silhouette from a distance.
Randy you gave the sauce out that bait on a spinning rod with a dam cool bait under spin is just deadly. My home lake is casitas and it is not an easy place anymore use to be amazing but it’s finally back at 50 percent and filling so hopefully these giants will awake. But on the toughest days that set up will put fish on the boat senko in one hand and the under spin on the other and I’m happy
Id turn off the iPhone artificial blurring when doing a demonstration type video. That way the lures stay in focus the whole time. Just a little tech tip. Big Hazadong fan here. Good tips.
Those do look nice! What other colors? Kinda remind me of the old basstrix minnows a little bit. I also like shadalicious and some of the zman baits minnows. That 10X plastic drives fish crazy! I also like yum money minnows. All mainly for river walleyes in my case but minnow baits work on bass in some lakes i fish. Like lake champlain. Seems every year the walleyes stop biting after using one bait for a bit and they want something different. Last year it was bucktail jigs old school but hammer time! Also the zman baits and keitech minnows. Even berkley gulp works pretty good. I love swim jiggin for walters!!! Thanks for showing us this little beauty!! Fish on!!
Thanks Randy...I've been a fan of the spark olive shad for some time...glad to have this recommendation. Baitworx is almost wiped out of the 2inchers. I'm wondering about the color used here? Moroko...Tenn Shad...or? Both of these are sold out
This is nuts but I can’t tell you guys how many fish I caught on a white banjo minnow…forget all the silly hardware they tried to push with it, a simple nose hook was all it takes. Hard to find the originals now
Randy, I sincerely love your channel and truly appreciate the content you bring week after week, but I have to ask, what makes this swimbait different than Keitech, Bass Pro Speed Shad, or any other paddle tail finesse swimbait?
I agree. I prefer Z-Man so I take vids like this and apply them to my favorite minnow . It’s unfortunate in bass fishing how the market forces creators to mix instruction with advertisement. Done well I don’t mind it. Done poorly they become used car salesmen. Mike Ikonelli is awful . If his mouth is moving he’s trying to sell you something. 😂
Randy the hazedong has been around for a long time tho. Its not really a new bait its def a sleeper and gets bit really well. I will say tho they are kind of a pain to rig tho.
Knew it was gonna be a megabass punt. Randy you have a unique and great channel. Please don't cheap it down. I'm sure it's a great lure but there are 50comparable baits on the market. Did not enjoy the video
I agree with that. I always crush spring/fall crappies with this setup I add a bit of chartreuse/garlic dye to the tail to give a a different appearance. I use a 1/32 - 1/16oz ball jig head.
These baits probably DO work well. But, as a Bass fisherman myself, in Muddy to real stained water, its MOTION and VIBRATION. Not so much of what it looks like.
I've try that bait and didn't work for me at all, the best live bait minnow imitation that i'v used so far is Fish Arrow Flash J 3" and OSP MyLarMinnow 2.8"
MyLar Minnows are great but they're high. For shad imitators, try a Mister Twister Sassy Shad in 'pearl' or 'chartreuse/silver flake', a Lake Fork Tackle Baby Boot Tail Shad in 'magic shad', or a Bobby Garland Slab Hunt'R Finesse Baitfish in 'live minnow' or 'threadfin shad' colors. These are some less expensive shad/minnow imitators that are killers. Also, the Issei Liar Minnow, in 'hasugo' or 'amur minnow' is a killer minnow option, if you're willing to pay the price!
I don't know if you've fixed this since I know this video is a year old but when you're trying to focus something small put your hand behind it and move it towards the camera

@@Olson81got ‘em with the Zara spook tonight lol love those lures
I looked at the link.... $10 for one!? Plz correct me if I'm wrong, I'll get out my Zara's
It's per pack. 3 inch is 8 per pack, 4.2 inch is 5 per pack
Flying minnows lol I loved them commercial back in the 90s they didn't catch much in fresh water though lol

Randy dropping some real juice here 😱
Keitech EZ Shiner has better swimming action , this is a very good lure but doesn't swim as well as the Ez Shiner especially on slower retrieve
While I disagree with your livesxioe rants, you nailed this episode.
Guys who say they are no better than powerbait or keitech are clueless

I don’t really have a favorite. It just depends on the water clarity.
