It's a good example of a simple, proper, and organized home and restaurant. The materials used are all affordable for average to upper earning people. Good job to the owner of the property.
I've built my own house in the US and did most of the work myself. It's a stick built home. I wouldn't even begin to understand how to build one with steel and concrete. It's a whole different beast.
I think it's a good thing his contractor screwed up his plan for the one big curtain wall. The new design is much stronger, in my opinion, and will be able to withstand stronger typhoons. I love the place!
Incredible what can be achieved with determination and talent, and Jim is clearly both hardworking and creative. Simply impressive, and yet another fantastic video presentation! You always deliver top-notch videos, and this must be inspiring for anyone considering a move to the Philippines - so much valuable information.
Lot prices are creeping up. Currently having a bungalow build (2bd,2.5bth) in iloilo in a subdivision for $67k. Back 10 years ago it would've only cost 35k. Get it while it's still affordable.
my niece husband is from Twillingate New Founland. Now residing in Bicol at the farm at the foot of the mountain. So another New Foundlander in the Phils.
You should tell him not only to cantilever his bedroom over the cliff, but it should make part of the floor of the bedroom glass for a couple of beautiful homes in California. They’ve been a part of where they have done that and it is really quite spectacular to look down from the floor of the bedroominto the canyon
Hahaha, about time someone had Jim and Ev on their vlog. They're an amazing couple and great hosts. Met them in 2015 in camiguin and stayed with them a few times. Jim caused me a few bourbon blackouts and Evs amazing food added a few kilos and many laughs were had by Ev mostly at my expense lol. Shes actually like a soup nazi, always yelling " no soup for you" 😜
@@casaroca220 back at ya brother, I'm moving to Roxas in a couple of weeks, tired of the small town vibe with no food or alcohol options. What an awesome place Jim has. I love the open concept of the house and very simple just my style. Great views as well. The restuarant and food look amazing. This guy obviously went there with a lot more money than he needed. He’s one of those I saved 5 mil or more guys. Lol 😂. Sure it’s nice to have something to do. But certainly not everyone would be capable of doing what he is doing.
I didn't hear any talk about 5 mil and why not? With $13k usd and some of your own labor, its doable but yes, you are correct, not everyone would be capable because it takes life experience, hard work and testicular fortitude.
@@robmcguckin7605 dude I’ve been building houses for the past 25 years. Just because you didn’t hear anything about 5 mil doesn’t mean this guy doesn’t have a lot of money saved to be able to put himself in the situation in the first place. Don’t judge a book by its cover. He’s got around 200 k invested in just buildings there, I bet he spent 200k on the land. You don’t tell someone you have no budget to keep building things you don’t need unless you have enough saved for your retirement and extra to throw around. I’ve worked for all walks of people my whole life. I can read someone’s body language he’s got atleast 2 mil saved 5 was an exaggeration.
@@Ryan-wi3ry I've also spec-built 17 new homes here in NJ starting in 2003 and renovated double that in flips so you are talking with someone with experience too. My last project was my 43 room hotel in Peru. Building with on site mixed concrete, 1/2" rebar and block and using 26 guage corrugated steel panel roofing is a lot less expensive and involved than meeting our building codes and using wood or metal studs, R 13 wall insulation, R30 ceiling insulation, 1/2 drywall, 5/8" for fire rated walls, double pane low E windows, 40 year dimensional asphalt shingles or tile roofing over 1/2" plywood then an ice shield and 30lb asphalt membrane and general laborers that need to get paid $150 usd daily. I built an entire 3.5 star hotel for about 20% of what it would have cost me in the states or any 1st world country. As far as his land, its 2400 m2 which is slightly more than a half acre so I doubt he paid more than 50k usd and maybe even half that since he said he's been in the Philippines for 10-12 years. There is no way he spent anywhere near 200k usd for that 1500 s.f. house, (its a 2 br, 2 bath house with main open room) The pool is a simple 12x24 rectangle not a formed 16x32. In regards to his body language, if you can tell he's got 2 to 5 million saved, you are a better man than me in that regard. I think if he had that, he'd have his own resort because thats how it works, the more we have the bigger the goals.
