I'm so glad a professional ballerina is making youtube videos on health and beauty and exercise! you are so so so so cute! thanks for sharing your tips! i hope to see more exercising and health videos in the future! :)
I've always skipped breakfast in the morning because I always wake up late and end up almost late for school, so I never had much time to eat anything in the morning. Usually lunch is my breakfast. Watching this video made me realize how breakfast was so important. Thank you so much. :D
Wow you speak so elegantly! I heard the thing about only eating 80% and that the people who live the longest do this as well! Is almond milk a good substitute for soy?
That's perfect! I thought miso soup would take a long time to make when I was younger, too, but surprisingly this really takes less than 5 minutes and it tastes yummy. I got mine at Mitsuwa. :) Happy New Year to you, too! xo
i'm not gonna lie, my heart leaped when i saw this video from you haha. i love all your videos because you're so informative and keep things simple - but i have to say that i'm in love with your fitness, diet/cooking, and skincare videos the most! i always learn something new from you. also, i'm gonna be referring to a lot of your fitness tips and recipes to achieve my new year's resolution of being more fit and healthy! thanks melodee :) can't wait to see what you have for us in the new year!
Thank you for your comment! I agree that taking too much is not good either. Soy is known to prevent various types of cancers, but yes, some women with breast cancer are told to not take as much soy. You can't always take *too* much of anything (even tho it may be packed with nutrients), but at the same time, taking in very little to none is not healthy either... so I think it's a matter of intake balance for your own body- adjusting to your own needs. :)
I'm a swimmer and dancer and I recently went on vacation and gained 4 pounds I lost them with these workout and diet tips ❤thank you lots of love from Korea ❤감사합니다 언니 ❤
I was wondering, since I'm a college student, and my classes don't start til the afternoon, I don't usually wake up until 11AM or Noon. Does my first meal still be considered breakfast? And that I should light, or should I eat a full meal?
Thank you for being a long time follower! I truly appreciate it. :) My updated skincare video (not sure yet if I want to do review/comparisons, demo, or a lifestyle type) will be coming hopefully sometime this month! It'll be my next video or the one after that for sure! I'll be sure to pack in a lot of helpful and useful info for you all, so stay tuned! xo
Yes, I highly recommend you to eat for breakfast, as it will greatly affect how your brain and body functions throughout the day. Miso soup will wake you up and keep you warm in the winter weather, too, so definitely try it out! :)
Making from scratch means you have to make your own dashi from wakame & bonito, which is much more time consuming b/c there's a process to it (can't just boil everything together once). My viewers asked for a quick recipe anyone can make, so I shared this dashi included liquid b/c everything already done for you. Miso paste w/ only soy & water is *not* dashi included though, which means you would have to take time to make it yourself. (See my comment to the kind @CaliNouveau for Part 2 reply!)
Ahaha it's okay, we all have our guilty pleasures. ;) It's not like I'm a complete health freak, too. It's okay to treat yourself sometimes, but just keep in mind of when you're eating it and how much next time. Thanks so much for watching, and Happy New Year!
I should put on practice your tips. My doctor tells me to eat slower and to stop binging and of course to stop purging my food. I love feeling empty but at the same time I hate feeling empy, that's so crazy... I feel dizzy and sick all the time and I know I'm treating my body very badly, but I don't know how to stop my addiction to food. I will try to eat the way you say to improve my health and my skin. When I see a video of you I am entretained so I don't think about my adiction and you're helping me to stop my deadly behaviour. Thank you very much :)
Thank you for the request! That may be a fun video to do sometime. I'll add it to my list. :) A lot of people requested me to do hair tutorials but I'm not rli the best at it, so I haven't done any hair-related vids so far ^^; lol. I might include it with a Get Ready With Me type of video in 2013 :D
I totally agree with you! I think we should all eat smaller portions. I actually have a 'portion bowl' which helps me control the amount I eat for each meal.
I haven't done any kind of surgery (even braces) because 1. I'm way too scared (lol), 2. Don't want to regret/think about possible future negative effects, and 3. Although I sometimes wish parts could be a bit different, I am aware of my imperfections and okay with keeping them b/c that's what makes me who I am, and changing that won't make me feel any better... :) Remember to embrace your natural self and beauty, b/c that's what makes you you! (sri if that sounded cheesy, but it's true!)
I think the best way to explain this is when you stop feeling hungry or for me, I stop eating before I feel like I'm getting to that point of feeling full.
Thank so much for making these videos, we currently live in Okinawa and you've inspired me to live a healthier lifestyle and explore japanese supermarkets and products.
You save my life 🌸 I really was looking for a diet because of some weight complexes and, above all, a bad health. I will try your advises until the end of the year and come back to claim: IT WORKS!! 🌸
Your proposed 'skincare from the inside' video sounds wonderful! Additionally, if you had any other quick and healthy recipes do please share them with us (if your time permits of course!) :) x
Miso has high salt (sodium) content, which allows it to preserve itself without much added preservative. I make mine with miso paste. Miso paste is super easy to use. I would say it only adds like 30 seconds of work compared to the bottle dashi. For those who are very sensitive to preservatives, miso paste is ideal: the ingredient list contains soy and water, nothing else.
Hi Melodee! 1) You have a very kind face and it makes your videos very enjoyable. :) 2) I think this is my favorite video yet! I am very interested in health and nutrition, and there are so many contrasting theories. I love your philosophy of listening to the body. 3) How much cardio do you recommend to achieve a ballerina body? I typically do HIIT cardio and some toning- not much resistance training. Could you give me a recommendation (example of your average day)? Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing Melodee :) For me, regarding eating, I follow this rule: 1/3 food, 1/3 drink, 1/3 air (in my stomach) this way it is healthy and won't have a bloated feeling. Another rule I follow is eating vegetables (like you said) as well as salad before meat and such, I got this from the Quran, and turns out its healthy :) it prepares the stomach for the rest of the food. And the first rule, was around 1400 yrs ago from the prophet Muhammad :) t.c
I make it all the time b/c it's super easy and you can make it for a lot of people at once. I'll see if my viewers would like to see more cooking videos, and if they do, I would love to! :)
メロディちゃん thank you for the tips. Also, I find miso is quite salty. This coming new year, I want to cook everything with low sodium for healthier life. So, I need to buy everything that's low in sodium including shoyu and miso. hehe! Last but not least, 明けまして おめでとう~ 良いお年を! 来年はもっと新しいビデオをアップして下さいね。 楽しみにしています。
This video was so helpful! Thank you! I love miso soup and I can't wait to try this recipe. I did not know that it was a breakfast food! I will also keep the 80 percent rule in mind from now on and try to eat breakfast everyday. I would love to see the skincare video! Happy new year!
What you want to do is have your regular amount of food you eat ready (whatever amount that makes you usually full). Then, take away 20% of that and keep it for another meal, and eat the rest! If you're not sure of your 80% limit, you can keep doing this until your body gets used to it. :)
i watched in a japanese movie that u should eat veggie first too because if u eat carbs first itll increase blood sugar? not completely sure haha and omg i love miso soupp
you can buy wakame at Nijiya market or you can buy it at Marukai. I'm not sure which is closer to where you live, but look at these places. also, the Markume base might be at these stores as well, but I have not seen them.
You are so pretty... thanks for the tips! :) I really love Japanese culture ever since I went to Japan last month. All the women in Japan are really pretty and clean and neat. I wish to be like one of you guys... Not only all you are born with good genes, but also charming personality. Most people I met there are really, really polite and helpful. Nippon wa suki desu!
Awesome! I recommend googling marukome (I saw that they had an English website) or any kind of Japanese miso company's website so that you can get the exact ingredients in the dashi stock. :) Thanks for watching and Happy NYE! :)
Amazing! :D I have decided to start adding Japanese culture into my life to help with my eating and everything in general. Japanese cuisine is so much healthier then the Australian diet I eat every day. This helped so much thank you Melodee :D Im also going to learn Japanese and hopefully one day move to Japan :D
I wanted to chime in for a moment- I have done a considerable amount of research on soy (I love my tofu and miso and highly preferred to keep them!) and there is research showing that small amounts are beneficial, especially the fermented variety. The danger comes when the soy is 1) processed (soy protein isolate, etc.) 2) genetically modified 3) overeaten-soy contains a high amount of phytoestrogens that can unbalance hormones. Overall, small amounts eaten with happy thoughts are beneficial! :)
Full Circle is a great all-natural and organic brand to try if you live in the US. They offer soy milk, almond milk, and more in a variety of flavors (i.e., unsweetened, chocolate, vanilla). They are rather inexpensive, too -- only $3 roughly a carton.
Wow, thank you so much! That means so much to me, and I'm glad I shared all the information in this video. I love to offer what I can and giving advice, so it's wonderful reading comments that I was able to teach them something new. I will be putting out a lot more creative videos in 2013! Thanks so much for the tremendous support in 2012. Happy New Year!! :) xoxo
Hi Melodee 👋 I always watch your videos especially when its about skin care. Your videos really helped me a lot I must say. I have walking pneumonia and I want to ask you if you can give me diet tips or other things I can do to prevent the side effects and foods or other stuff that is really going to help me with my sickness. Thank you!😊 I hope to see more helpful videos from you 😁
Just want to say that you are adorable... I see the Light shine through you... and it is just delightful to watch you... I also really appreciate your wisdom and your generous spirit which prompts you to share many useful things with the world. As I am interested in learning Japanese I wonder if you could recommend a good course of study for me and others perhaps who have the same interest... Thanks... and infinite blessings...
Wow, thank you so much for your very kind and thoughtful comment! Those words mean so much to me, and I am glad I have shared these videos. :) I am going to be making a video on how I learned Japanese and my recommended methods in early 2014, so please look forward to it.
I really liked this video. I always try to eat healthy. My breakfast is usually "Western style" with cereals (no sugar), fresh fruit and then either yogurt, milk or soy milk. I usually drink green tea unless I'm super tired, then coffee. When I'm on vacation I eat Japanese style breakfast with miso soup, white rice, raw egg and natto, grilled fish etc. I love natto! :D
specific cooking video request - can you do one on a full Japanese-style breakfast? =) it looks very healthy and filling! oh also, have you ever done a video on how you style your bangs? if not would you mind making one? thanks ^^
I never thought about having miso soup in the morning. But I do love Kimchee! I don't really like soy milk, but I drink almond milk. I'm going to eat the miso soup in the morning now. Great video.
I am 13 and a dancer and im trying to get fit and healthier, i used to enjoy soymilk all,the tume but i have developed an allergy to soy...what do recommend to drink instead that has the same benefits?💜
Really great video! I LOVE Japanese-style breakfasts. Could you do a video or just talk about a typical dinner and lunch for you & do you snack during the day? x
Awesome! I've been making miso soup everyday; your version is really fast!! I make mine with kombu stock and dissolve the miso paste in hot water, it's still pretty quick 😃
Thanks for all the tips! it really helped! And wow, I didn't realize how good miso soup is for you. I really want to try it but a few months ago I went to a Japanese restaurant and the miso soup smelled really funny so I was too scared to try it. I think I'll actually try it this time :)
one question I cook for a married couple and they eat japanese food and I'm gonna start cooking healthy food from know on what's a good healthy japanese routine and schedule for a healthy life style ? . thanks also awesome video helped me alot .
Thank you for helping @lynn4991 out! Pls read my reply to her first for this comment to make sense. :) Yes, using miso paste is the real way, but it does take a lot longer to make your own dashi w/ soy & water only paste than using a liquid or dashi-included type paste. At night when I do have time tho, I make miso soup w/ my own dashi! Miso also has much less sodium content compared to others like corn potage, but if it still concerns you, you can choose a 減塩 (gen-en) type instead! xo
I'm glad this video was helpful to you! Kimchi is delicious AND full of so many health benefits so I eat it all the time. hehe. Have a safe and Happy New Year! :)
Hi Melodee, have been following you for quite a long time. I really want to learn how you keep such a white skin, except Shiseido. Can you do a whitening special video for us? Thanks :)
Hmmm... I want to ask what is your hair color? I love that hair color! Oh and one more thing Is that my hair is curly and I use head and shoulders shampoo ( its a type of shampoo ) but everyday when I brush my hair or touch my hair it always fall a lot of hairs :( do you know why and can you do a how to protect hair from falling down video?
Great! I hv soft tofu in the fridge right now. Just want to know what's the main ingredients in Dashi stock? I'm x japanese so I wud like to know. Btw u look like a snow princess in that white sweater. Happy NY!
hi melodee i was just wondering is it ok if you can tell me the hiragana learning video for kids that you use to watch, and the cue card. I'm hoping to teach my child. she is almost 2 and loves learning.
I’ve tried miso soup before, I don’t know if I’m a picky eater but doesn’t tastes that good, so I do not recommend it, but if you want to try it it’s up to you.
Now I really need to find out how to get to Mitsuwa. Dx I've tried searching online for directions but it never seems to work out. I'll check at small Family Market where I live here in Astoria. Hehe, learned so much in this video you inspire me to find more ways to be healthy!
Fluent English and japanese. Awesome
I'm so glad a professional ballerina is making youtube videos on health and beauty and exercise! you are so so so so cute! thanks for sharing your tips! i hope to see more exercising and health videos in the future! :)

I can't wait to try to make the Miso soup I think it may break my not eating breakfast habit. Thank you so much.
Yes, I highly recommend you to eat for breakfast, as it will greatly affect how your brain and body functions throughout the day. Miso soup will wake you up and keep you warm in the winter weather, too, so definitely try it out! :)

So happy this was one of your videos versus being directed to a not so english friendly website. Love you!
Ahaha it's okay, we all have our guilty pleasures. ;) It's not like I'm a complete health freak, too. It's okay to treat yourself sometimes, but just keep in mind of when you're eating it and how much next time. Thanks so much for watching, and Happy New Year!

zoey wagner You need to find help now. Just my advice, you'll never regret. I'm talking by my own experience. Go on girl! :) Stay strong.
Ainhoa Neira How are you doing after all this time?
Thank you! Gotta find a Japanese store for those ingredients.
You're my most favorite TH-cam artist Miss Melodee. Your videos are so informative . I love them. :)
Wow very informative... i did wrong all my life! Now need to practice correctly so hard!
Aw thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy all of the cooking segments.
I would honestly love to see a skincare video! All of your videos are super informative and helpful, keep it up!
Hmm I can't guarantee because I don't shop in Chinatown, but you can definitely find it in any kind of Japanese supermarket!
You save my life 🌸 I really was looking for a diet because of some weight complexes and, above all, a bad health. I will try your advises until the end of the year and come back to claim: IT WORKS!! 🌸
Thanks so much! I always wake up and skip breakfast, now I know why I'm not hungry in the morning!!
Sure! :) Yes, water and exercise are a must, but I'm glad I was able to teach you something new. Happy almost New Year! :)
Aw thank you so much! Those words mean so much to me.
Yay, I'm glad I shared! :)

Hi Melodee!
1) You have a very kind face and it makes your videos very enjoyable. :)
2) I think this is my favorite video yet!
Yes please do a skincare video! I love watching all your videos they are informative!!!
ありがとうございます!ワクワクする。頑張って下さいました!
I make it all the time b/c it's super easy and you can make it for a lot of people at once. I'll see if my viewers would like to see more cooking videos, and if they do, I would love to! :)
Very informative, thank you. Looking forward for the skincare ver !
メロディちゃん thank you for the tips. Also, I find miso is quite salty.
This coming new year, I want to cook everything with low sodium for healthier
life. So, I need to buy everything that's low in sodium including shoyu
and miso.
hi new subscriber here from manila philippines i love the way you talk and the information you give... keep it up melodee!

you and bubzbeauty are my favorite beauty youtubers X) makes me want to try out other brands and methods than just traditional korean things/ways.
Thank you so much! This video was very helpful! Please make a video on sample healthy meals and snacks! Thanks a bunch!
Blue Diamond Almonds has a line called ALMOND BREEZE and they have almond milk coconut milk Blend. it's delicious!
Great video! I've been finding it hard to keep up with healthy eating habits, but this video has really motivated me.

Try Silk Almond milk :)
I cannot palate almond milk, and if you also dislike it, try coconut milk! some brands have very little coconut taste, and some are stronger.
thanks a lot
Really great video! I LOVE Japanese-style breakfasts. Could you do a video or just talk about a typical dinner and lunch for you & do you snack during the day? x
Awesome! I've been making miso soup everyday; your version is really fast!! I make mine with kombu stock and dissolve the miso paste in hot water, it's still pretty quick 😃
When I lived in NYC, I would buy a Japanese breakfast (miso soup and a roll with smoked salmon) from a vendor in the Lipstick Building. I miss that.
Miso also has much less sodium content compared to others like corn potage, but if it still concerns you, you can choose a 減塩 (gen-en) type instead! xo
I'd love more cooking videos :D especially ones that are fast and healthy! (lazy college student)

hi melodee i was just wondering is it ok if you can tell me the hiragana learning video for kids that you use to watch, and the cue card. I'm hoping to teach my child. she is almost 2 and loves learning.
I’ve tried miso soup before, I don’t know if I’m a picky eater but doesn’t tastes that good, so I do not recommend it, but if you want to try it it’s up to you.
