"Never play" dude the two weeks after its release all i saw TH-camrs play was Lies of P, plus it was on Xbox gamepass so anyone who watched clips or videos would immediately install it. Everyone was calling the game dark souls but with Pinocchio and that alone made me play the demo months before its release.
This is a game where you get better because you actually got better. It’s an experience where you feel something in yourself getting better rather than sleepwalking through a game relying on the same tactics.
This game is a masterpiece. It's far superior to lords of the fallen and easily just outside Elden ring and Sekiro the best souls like. This game makes non soulsbourne players like it. Why? The music. The atmosphere the story. The level of production is so good.

I think it deserved to win best art direction for sure, but I don’t know about GOTY. All that don’t really matter to much to me anyway! I know it’s my favorite game of this year (along with Lords of the Fallen) and that’s all that matters!
I love to game as well, and no disrespect, but it is not even close to how good Baldur Gate 3 is ... Not even Zelda could touch it. It is a game I will be recommending to people, though.
I already beat it 7 times and 100% it, ( to brag, but also to show how much I love the game) And Im still not tired of it, I could go through the game again and the combat would still feel satisfying.
The goty is about huge games and lies of p wasn't a big title (this award does not mean that any other announeced game is bad and lies of p was my favorite game in 2023 next to Bramble the mt king) but i think this game was a big shine for the studio and they have created a nice player base for the futer.
I agree, this game is something else, absolutely a GotY nominee. I've never played a souls game though, not even Elden Ring, so I'm no authority on those types of games, they just have never interested me. This one got me hooked though!
Thanks for the video. I am at the first brothers boss figh, in Lies of P. For Elden Ring I did everythiing and no farming and no help from anyone. I was able to Platinum the game. A few bosses I was stuck on and took too may times to count for how many times I died.
The difficulty balance is so much better than Elden Ring in this game. The linearity forces you to get good and you really don’t have to worry about it you’re properly leveled with your stats or weapons.
Lies of P was the best game I would never play until last week when I finally started playing. I’ve been really interested in the game since it was revealed years ago. I say it was a game I would never play because I never play souls/souls likes beyond the first few minutes or hour. But eventually I gave in and started Lies of P and loved the atmosphere and story so much I played it to the true end.
You need to give all the souls likes the right mindset. DS3, bloodborne and sekiro are my favourites but lies of p and lords of the fallen are great in their own rights. Lies of p is about the story, combat and weapon system. Lords is more about exploring and winding paths, I love both of them. Lies of p is better but they do different things…
If it had FromSoftware on the front cover, it would have won. The only thing its missing is co-op/PvP, which is a huge undertaking in balance and design. But the game itself is almost perfect, still have a couple bosses to go. cant wait.
Nah it wouldn't have. Lies of P lacks in scope, level details, it's mechanics are a bit clunky and clash against each other, it lacks that fromsoft quality overall, which comes from experience and a LOT of games made in that style, with both slow like dark souls 1 and fast gameplay like dark souls 3, but also more experimental gameplay like Bloodborne and a straight up action game with sekiro, going from medieval fantasy to Lovecraftian victorian London with a dash of steampunk and finally straight up samurai and ninjas japanese fantasy. It's the best soulslike, that for sure. But it is very VERY derivative. If from soft made it, it would have been them copying themselves, stuff they made. Would be a bit different. I'd say the game is a bit better than dark souls 2 and maybe demons souls (if we don't count the circumstances behind the game). But it's not even close to the other souls games. Id give it a 9 to 9.3/10 on its own, but compared to Bloodborne, dark souls, dark souls 3 and sekiro, it's an 8.5/10. Saying the game is perfect and that the criticism is just fromsoft fanboyism and favoritism is VERY dishonest. I'm giving A LOT of credit to the game, given how it's the studios first big game and first attempt at a souls like but the game is unashamedly a souls clone. Most of its mechanics, lore, level design, gameplay etc... are good because fromsoft made them good. Are you really an amazing painter if you copy the Monna Lisa and give it moustache? Sure, you are giving your own spin and interpretation but most of the work was a copy. It would be very different story if Leonardo Da Vinci made a copy and gave it a moustache, reinterpreting his own work. So saying IF from soft had made it is a massive IF. And that if doesn't cancel out all the various problems with the game, which would probably be criticized MORE in actuality. Because many of the problems are rookie mistakes of a small team making their first big game and 1st soulslike. And people are willing to ignore those problems and give them a lot of credit for what they did right, even if it's super derivative. Fromsoft wouldn't get that benefit of the doubt and willingness to ignore problems since they made the genre and had many tries at it and their standards are way higher. So I 100% disagree that if from soft had made the same exact game, they would have received more praise. It's the opposite. People would have been baffled by some decisions and choices and gameplay loops and problems as they are way more experienced. For example, they are known for a particular style of level design, environmental storytelling and care for details, things that are missing in lies of P. Things people say like "if you told me this game was made by fromsoft, I would have believed you" are just exaggerations to praise the game. Nobody actually believes that because no way fromsoft would release a game with levels that barren. It reminded me of dark souls 2, another souls game made by a team of rookies making their first souls game for the first time. A game FULL of problems stemming from the B team's inexperience. Give credit where credit is due but you are overhyping here and that is not helpful to anyone.
I have an Xbox and apparently like psychonauts II, it's for free on the subscription they offer. I mean, I was playing Elden Ring and a lot of that game would have made me insane had I not read the community's precious and cherished words: "Try finger, but whole".
It was my favorite game this year tbh, but it did copy a lot of mechacnis from BloodBorne which I think makes it lose a bit of creadit in matter of creativity. Storyline was great and engaging, art is beutiful, difficulty was pretty reasonably sustained and increasingly challenging. Almos quit a few times but finishing it was very satisfying. started NG+ but honestly I want to take a break and enjoy my 1st playthrough haha
it's a great game that i played it 3 times but 80% on metacritics is overrall awesome and this year was jam-packed with a lot of very good games, the thing is that metacritics or in general just labeling a game with a single number is a bad metric to evalute games. As for the GOTY, most normies have their biases because they simply didnt play or enjoyed all the nominated games so most ppl just root for the games that they played
LoP is a beautiful combination of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. It doesnt feel like either titles, but its such a beautiful merge that it definitely feels like its own thing, and if you didnt know you'd totally believe that LoP was developed by a team at From Software. The only complaint that I have is that the game is super linear, really no reason to go back to previous areas besides to give items for side fetch quests and treasure hunts, but if you missed those reward items its no big deal. It would have been cool if the map was intertwined like Dark Souls 1's rather than ultimately being a long hallway that eventually ends up being a big circle. Im also 13ish hours in, just got to X, and the game really isnt that difficult, but after my first playthrough imma do a STR build and focus on perfect guarding because i can totally see that being a lot harder. From what i can tell, from the very start of the game its def STR = Hard, Quality = Medium, & DEX = Easy. Its really not that way in Souls for the most part, theyre just different playstyles, but since LoP doesnt have really have Unga Bunga damage the 3 classes are def the difficulty modes. Idc what ADV would be, tbh i dont really see a reason to make a Advanced build.
I might give it a try at least I don't have to plug the PS4 back in and have the loading times as with BB. I 'm not vey good with these games though. I'm just old school: stack, farm and use every dirty trick like getting the enemy stuck and using ranged when it comes to soulsbornes.
if you get stuck there are summons help for bosses and throwables which also help a lot. I'm average at best and have been getting through fairly easily with those cheap tactics if I get stuck, hey if its in the game, I'm not too proud to use it. haha

it's a very good game, but it's really niche, it's hard as balls and it has nothing on Baldur's Gate 3, there's no way that game would NOT win GOTY :)

The game of the year winner was made from a super tiny studio, with a game that is a sequel to a game like 15 + years old

game was not that hard for me only took 15 hours, didnt do the side quests tho.
After doing the side quests they're a waste of time for the most part. Can't remember a reward that was actually worth getting.
