Irish stew doesn't have beer in it necessarily ,You can have stew with stout guinness or murphys but thats a separate dish most irish stews don't have beer in them.Boxty is not common in the parts of ireland you visited ,but they are in the northwest where i live it is very common and sold in every supermarket in many varieties .Outside the northwestern and border counties its not sold.Gallaghers boxty house have their take on boxty but thats not how its eaten where i live its mostly part of the breakfast.
