- My analysis of Exal Kressh is based around her lone appearance in The Old Republic: Blood Of The Empire miniseries, with background details drawn from The Old Republic Encyclopedia. My analysis of Asajj Ventress will be drawn purely from Legends continuity sources, the Clone Wars microseries, the Clone Wars novels, and the Dark Horse comics, ignoring her appearances in The Clone Wars animated series and all of its tie-ins.
You know my reasons.
I freely admit that I cranked this video out by using abridged versions of the full breakdowns for both characters from Exal Kressh Vs. Darth Wredd and Kao Cen Darach Vs. Asajj Ventress. I really just wanted to get a video out. So with all of that out of the way, let us begin.
Exal Kressh, the puppet-apprentice of Emperor Vitiate, and Asajj Ventress, Count Dooku's enforcer.
If these two noted adepts were to meet in single combat, who would win?

Very good battle. Kresh is very impressive with her lightning, and if it wasn't for the Emperor I think she would have been able to be on the top tier of the Dark Council.
Well bare in mind she probably gets an amp from not only having a portion of vitiate inside her mind but he personally trained her like imagine having his force potential and getting serious training from Plagleuis or Sidious
I am currently writing the bios for a three way match up between Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress, and Galen Marek: the orphaned assassins of the Sith. While writing about Ventress’ lightsaber it got me thinking: where did she get the blue crystal from for her Jedi weapon? Because I doubt there were crystal deposits on Rattatak, that left me with only two possibilities. One was that her lightsaber was in fact a spare weapon that belonged to Ky Narec that he passed onto Ventress as part of her Jedi training; thus making Ky Narec at least an occasional user of Jar’Kai. The other possibility is that she made the crystal herself, pouring the Force and her sense of bringing the warlords of Rattatak to justice that resulted in her shining blue blade. What do you guys think? How did Ventress get her blue lightsaber?
And yes, I’m afraid I am using Maul and Ventress from before TCW retconned their stories.

REALLY want to see this, I think Jaina ultimately gets him Anakin-style but only barely.

I agree. I think Jaina v Dooku is probably the most interesting. Jaina's stats are basically Anakin light, but with greater self control and arguably more intelligent. I think Draay's best chance is to beat Anakin quickly. By this I mean in the first exchange 7 Samurai style. Although I admit this is unlikely. I think another interesting match would be Jaina vs Anakin. It would be an interesting version of brain vs brawn.

John Smith but Clone Wars was created by Lucas and Filloni before Disney...much of the show including getting to see Ventress in action was enjoyable and added world building. Why treat it like Lucas had nothing to do with it?

I find it weird that you haven’t used Darth Maul in a while considering that he’s a character that’s right up your alley. For his comeback video, I think he would make an excellent match for Sora Bolq. I think it would be interesting taking two masters of form 7 and seeing who’s application is better. Maul’s focus or Bolq’s savagery.
Assuming you mean TPM Maul, he takes it over Bulq. They're about equal as duelists from a skill standpoint when both are amped by rage, but Maul is a much smarter fighter with greater physicality and power in the Force.
+wristofkings Disagree on the skill level. As a lightsaber instructer who co-created Vaapad, I see Bulq as a better duelist. But, otherwise I agree on TPM Maul taking this.
I think Bulq wins. Maul doesn't use his force abilities often enough. And I doubt he's much more skilled in that area to even make a difference. And Bulq is skilled enough to defeat him.

TPM Maul is both the more skilled fighter, and the more masterful Force wielder. He wins, in my opinion.
Since you're on this Ventress trip, how about pairing her up against Starkiller from The Force Unleashed 2? You could put her up against Galen Marek as well, I guess, but I think the Starkiller matchup might be more entertaining.

VERY happy to see this fight come to fruition. It's great to see Exal again given the respect she deserves, even if she doesn't end up coming out on top, which I can't disagree with even though I prefer Exal as a character. I could actually see these two maybe getting along, in a strange way--I feel as if they'd respect each other's crazy, in a way few others do.

Tustle of the Totty, perhaps? :o) I love both these characters - a lot of people find Asajj boring, but shes a tip of the iceberg character to me, mysterious, sinister, sexy but not in an obvious way, theres a lot going on inside her, I think. And the book she was in with Quinlan Voss? Ive listened to a bit of it on audiobook and I thought it took most of what I liked out of the character, which is a shame. Exal Kresh I only really know about from watching videos like this one, and shes a very cool, quite sympathetic character I think - bit of a lost soul. Anyway! Good stuff, man.

I think we should use the term "Pure Legends" because those disney pricks consider TCW as part of legends in general (even though that show contradicts many many things in the EU)
Its weird that TCW is both Disney Canon and Legends. Before the Old Eu was tossed out Lucasfilm was going to resolve the contradictions but never got the chance. The way I see it with the show is that TCW didn't happen in the exact way the show depicted things or some of it was true and some of it was false. For example the Episode with Evan Piell did happen , but it was propaganda that he died. that way his death in Coruscant Nights could still work out. I don't know though, Maybe TCW should just be purged entirely from Legends.

Can you explain the tier system that you use to evaluate their skills please?
- Tier 1 : Complete Mastery. Absolute paragons of the Force. GM Luke, Yoda, Palpatine
- Tier 1.5 : Complete Mastery with minor limitations. The absolute best, though crippling handicaps, age, or overspecialization prevent them from perfection. Dooku, Darth Bane (as of DoE), Darth Vader, Mace Windu, Exar Kun, Kyle Katarn.
- Tier 2 : Advanced Mastery. The top of the High Council for the Jedi Order. Obi Wan, Plo Koon and Shaak Ti. Other examples could be Darth Malgus (by the time of the False Emperor and Onslaught arcs), Darth Marr, Darth Baras, Darth Thanaton, Kao Cen Darach, Corran Horn, Lumiya, Mara Jade Skywalker.
- Tier 2.5 : Advanced Mastery in the making. Anakin Skywalker and arguably DE Luke.
- Tier 3 : Standard Mastery. Lower High Council members, great skilled knights or Sith Apprentices. Kit Fisto, Saesee Tinn, Ki Adi Mundi, Adi Gallia, Eeth Koth, Qui Gon Jinn, Jaden Korr, Cade Skywalker, Galen Marek, Asajj Ventress, Darth Zannah, Darth Maul.
- Tier 4 : Advanced Application. Where most highly skilled masters and knights fall into. Rahm Kota, Luminara Unduli, Quinlan Vos, RoTJ Luke, Rebels Ahsoka Tano, Bultar Swan, AoTC Obi Wan and Anakin (with the latter perhaps being a bit higher).

- Tier 6 : Basic Application. The barebone basics of how to use a lightsaber and the Force. Ezra Bridger (Rebels Season 1-2), Yun, the Petranaki Arena fodder.
- Tier 7 : Basic Knowledge. Younglings and untrained Force users. ANH Luke, Grogu.

I think Jin, even with Draay’s hybridization of Shii-Cho and Djem So, Jin is better trained and after seeing how he handled Maul, It’s just a matter of time. Draay is strong but not close to Maul’s level
Time for thoughts. 1st, love this matchup and titlecard! I'm fine with this being an abridged breakdowns of Kreesh and Ventress btw. These 2 are extremely similar (in fighter type and thematic) with the main diff is Ventress's superior swordsmanship and Kressh's force abilities (mainly lightsaber destroying lightning).
While Kreesh's rage does come off her skill in Juyo, I don't think she actually has skill in Juyo due to the technical demands and instead her Juyo like traits are due to her mental instability.
In force abilities, I agree about Kreesh's active def and overall advantage, but I don't agree her force power being => to Ventress. Teneb Kell's force power is top tier knightish, while Ventress is council master level.
No complaints about the verdict because my thoughts are the same. Ventress's dueling skill+ experience+her psyche being less unstable then Kressh.
As for you tier breakdown, I very much disagree.
For Kressh, I don't see her as a tier 3 duelist, due to her lack of development in skil. Her feats and accolades do not make me consider her tier 3 (like Jerec or Eeth Koth) and instead tier 4. As a force wielder, I again heavily disagree. While her knowledge base is extensive and her potential is great (vitiate did pick as apprentice), she didn't develop herself to that level, especially force power. Instead, I see Kressh (at peak) as a tier 2 force wielder in knowledge+skill, but tier 4-tier 3 in force power (nothing makes me thing her force power is comp to Jerec or Dooku).
As for Ventress, I see all of her skills are tier 2.5. My tier 2.5 is basically a tier 2 light (top tier 3-low tier 2 or a blend of tier 2 and 3 characteristics). Physically, her strength is lacking but everything else I see as peak human (her endurance and overall resiliency is def peak human). As a duelist+force weilder, Ventress is a tier 2 held back by lack of development in power+skill (just like Galen Marek) making her a tier 2.5.
While I do heavily disagree with your tier breakdown, everything thing else in this video I agree with and did greatly enjoy it. I love these strikezone videos a lot (usually for tier breakdown). Glad to see this matchup came out and looking forward to whats coming next!

Sorry, but when you mention that Sith had a more resilient physiology, I think what you mean is "physique" or "anatomy". Phyiosology is how a body WORKS not how it is BUILT. I'd be intrigued, though, in a comparison between the two species, if your time allows. Maybe they do have different phyiologies, after all.

If anything, Ventress should be rated as a tier 2.5, both in Legends _and_ in Canon. She's stated in _Star Wars Fact File 116_ to be Darth Tyranus' most powerful student. _Star Wars Fact File 108_ clearly states that Mace Windu had to use all his skill to best Ventress. To me, she might not be the very best fighter, but she's _improving._
Just in case you ever wanna use Darth Maul for a Strikezone video, let me be clear about this:
Maul should be somewhere between tier 2 to tier 1.5, partly because he had come close to beating Sidious in combat as a teenager, as confirmed in _The Dark Side Sourcebook._ Heck, he came a lot closer to defeating his former master than Mace Windu ever did. Any further info on that duel can be found in _Episode I Journal: Darth Maul_ and _The Wrath of Darth Maul._ Not only that, but his doppelganger was able to bring Vader to his knees after cutting loose.
And _TCW_ Maul is _not_ an offensive dervish; Savage Opress is. Besides, after seeing Maul in action, I'd say he's nearly Sidious' equal in lightsaber combat.

Maybe not his 'perfect' ideal of her but come on, I dislike the new sequels, but for their horrible execution & lack of believability not because they didn't make the exact movie I wanted.

I only disagree with the verdict because of Kress approach to combat being dun moch and brutal force lashing. Ventress is a fine duelist sure but we have to stop perpetuating the myth that she's a combat genius. She is repeatedly caught off guard by force powers by jedi even like bariss offee. I don't buy that a full fledged sith lord regardless of sanity wouldn't overpower her. Ventress is no mastermind, she can't bank on a saber duel to win this

I've noticed in your videos that I can tell who you're gonna pick as the winner within the first 5-10 minutes. I think that means you let your bias slip through a bit too much.

Asajj Ventress is one of those characters that has a staggering amount of untapped potential. If she had been trained as a fully-fledged Sith Lord, she would’ve stood head and shoulders above the majority of characters in the mythos.
However, even without complete training, Ventress is still a very formidable opponent. And while you argue that she has a vulnerability to strength oriented attack sequences, I actually disagree with this notion.
In Dreadnaughts of Rendili, she was able to circumvent and overcome Anakin’s strength advantage, and even managed to strike him across the face. Although Anakin did proceed to overpower her later in that duel, that is not the result of a weakness on Ventress’s part, but more the result of the sheer power that Anakin unleashes whenever he is driven beyond his typical mental state.
This was an interesting match-up. While I disagree that Exal can one-shot Ventress, I will not deny that she has a greater wealth of powers at her disposal. Despite having a larger pallet of powers, I do not believe that she holds an advantage against Ventress as a combative Force wielder. Ventress has the ‘I-cannot-lose’ mentality, and much like, say, Darth Maul, she can pull feats out of the bag that are absolutely extraordinary.
For example, when Master Faye mentally dominated Ventress, it was noted that Ventress was close to crushing Faye’s heart. Additionally, this feat was performed by Ventress when she was most certainly in the worst possible physical state. If Ventress pulled something like this off against Kressh, there is no hope for the Sith.
Anyway, I have a Vs. suggestion for you: Darth Malgus Vs. Darth Traya.

I concur with that. I put her on the level of Galen Marek at most. The saber-destroying lightning is a neat trick, but hardly a trump card against higher-level Force users with better defenses.

exal kressh vs darth zannah
Zannah wrecks. Exal's broken sanity is a perfect target for her sorcery and her saber isn't getting past Zannah's defense. About the only thing Exal can do is break her saberstaff with lightning and she probably won't get that far before Zannah reduces her cognitive functions to paste.
