Mackinac Island - Is it worth the hype?

Mackinac Island is a must-see destination when visiting the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Unique in the fact that they don't allow cars, you can explore either by bike, hike, or horse.
Tips
📌 We suggest taking your own bikes if you have them. We were told that e-bikes weren't allowed, but we saw many on the island. Apparently, if you don't have the motor on, you can use them.
📌 Hiking is a popular option on the island and certainly gets you away from the crowds. Be warned though, the island is steep and rocky.
📌 Book ahead for the horse riding as they have limited options. Even the carriage rides sell out.
📌 We did not visit the Fort as we weren't feeling well that day, but we understand it to be one of the best-preserved forts in the US.
📌 Be warned - this is a tourist trap for sure. The main street is lined with restaurants, bars, and gift shops.

Next time you really need to spend at least one night on the island. Plenty of places to stay in the downtown area, motels, inn's, bed and breakfast's. Once the day people leave the island the crowds thin out. Watching the sunset and then hanging out at Horn's, the Pink Pony, the Mustang, or the Draught House is a great evening.

A visit to the Grand Hotel is wonderful but pricey. Afternoon Tea is $65 per person! A lady on our tour was staying at the hotel. She informed us that the cost was $600 a night!!!.
